  1. Hello Chaps First finished model for 2014! Last year I only finished one model. I said this year was going to be better so here you go... My attempt the YF-23 1/48 from Hobby Boss, fascinating aircraft by the way. Carcal decals and Vallejo paint, primer and varnish. 11.5 hour of pure fun, spread over 5 months . Nice and easy kit, comes together like a dream, not filling required. The surface detail is a bit in the fine side to my taste but other than that, no complains. The mirrors are the only extra. They came from an Academy kit I think. Hope you like it. The pictures: YF-23 1 by adrianmunozm, on Flickr YF-23 2 by adrianmunozm, on Flickr YF-23 3 by adrianmunozm, on Flickr YF-23 4 by adrianmunozm, on Flickr YF-23 5 by adrianmunozm, on Flickr YF-23 6 by adrianmunozm, on Flickr YF-23 7 by adrianmunozm, on Flickr C&C welcome. 2. Here is the 1/72 Hobby Boss Rafale B Tiger Meet 2006. This is the first Hobby Boss kit I have ever made. As far as the fit of parts, I had little to no problems; the kit went together quite well. As for accuracy, beats me, I bought the kit for the Tiger Meet scheme and I hope it resembles a Rafale B. If it is one of those “Totally Unbuildable, Due to Horrible Errors” models, please excuse me for completing it, but at least enjoy the Tiger Meet scheme. The build thread is here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234959640-rafale-b-tiger-meet/ So far during my new found fascination for Tiger Meet planes, I have only built 1/144 and 1/72 Revell kits. (There is a 1/32 model in the stash, that should be fun!) What make these kits are the decals. And my experience with decals from Revell has been nothing but wonderful in their application and how well they fit together to make the intended scheme. Hobby Boss needs to contact whoever does Revell’s tiger meet decals. The decals were hard to work with, tended to fold into each other and did not like to be moved, once applied. For these schemes, you need to be able to adjust the decals so they fit next to each other. The other complaint is one that I often wonder when building kits, “Did someone bother to try and build this prior to it being put out on the market?” Some of the decals do not match the ones they are supposed to meet. This would have been quite obvious if whoever made them attempted to put them on the kit. Thankfully, they do react kindly to Micro Set/Sol solutions and can be manhandled into place with enough solution and patience to smooth them out over long periods of time. The above said, I would build another Hobby Boss kit and even take a crack at another tiger meet scheme though. Enough rambling, here are the end results. All comments welcome.
  3. 1/48th Lockheed F-80C Shooting Star by HobbyBoss in 2013 - catalogue ref.81725 and also - but not in the new catalogue - a F-80A - ref.81723 and a RF-80A - ref.81724(?) Source: http://scalemodels.ru/modules/news/img_5748_1358082281_fe7282025aafa40f1fabea15ab64034f79f0190e.jpg.html V.P.
  4. My fascination with Tiger Meet kits continues with this 1/72 Rafale B from Hobby Boss. I have built some 1/144 and 1/72 Revell Tornados, but I am branching out. This is the first Hobby Boss kit I have ever built. I am wondering if the fit and design of the kit, plus the quality of the decals will equal Revell. I have chosen the second Tiger Meet scheme in the box. The cover depicts another Tiger Meet aircraft. Upon opening the box, I am very pleasantly surprised with the amount of detail to the parts and surface. This is a very nice kit. Now, I have to admit, I have no knowledge of planes without propellers. If you asked me how accurate this kit is, couldn’t tell you to save my soul. I just bought it for the Tiger Meet scheme. If the kit goes together well and the decals fit, then I will be happy. Since my knowledge is negligible, I am solely relying on the color callouts in the instructions. My apologies if it offends the Rafale fans. I am not messing up on purpose. So on with the show. Let’s start out with the, ummm, cockpit. Nice amount of parts, looks like a lot of detail in the kit parts, plus supplementation by decals. The layout of the parts with a base coat on each looks like this. There are various decals that need to be applied to the two instrument panels. I am encouraged after application of these decals. They seem to react well with Micro Set/Sol and snuggle down nicely. I hope the Tiger Meet decals work as well as these. I put the two seats together and then painted on a few details along with weathering one to compare to the unweathered one. Here are the back of the seats (which will probably be invisible once installed) The sides, starboard, port and both sides weathered The cowling for the rear seat is next Finally, the tub is painted and various decals applied to good effect. Now, everything is put in the tub with these results. The fit was quite good except for one area. Each seat top has a gap that needs to be filled. That may very well be my fault as the fit for everything else was very good. So, need to break out the filler for these two little areas. Next up the center spline needs to have two vents installed and a little air scoop added. They all fit perfectly and I am still amazed at the detail level. The halves are split into upper and lower rather than right and left. I am hoping this will help ease any seams that need to be filled. I inserted the cockpit and canards which are designed to be moveable and joined the halves. They fit well and there appears to be minimal seams to fill and sand. (And for that I am thankful!!) And this looks like a good stopping point. My initial impressions of this kit and Hobby Boss are quite good. I hope they hold out for the entire build. Comments always welcome and encouraged.

  6. Hi everyone and this is my latest, the SH-60B Seahawk by Hobby Boss in 1/72. The full build thread is here but to recap: Kit: Hobby Boss 87231 SH-60B Seahawk Decals: 'Family of Hawks' by Printscale - unit markings are HSL-51 based in Japan. Build: OOB except for scratchbuilt centre pilots' console (which you can't see!) Paint: Brush painted with Revell Aqua Colour acrylics; Games Workshop Nuln Oil; Flory Models Wash; W&N Matt Varnish. Thanks for looking! Dermot
  7. Messerschmitt Me 262 A - 1a "Yellow 2" 3/KG(J) 54, Ruzyne 1945 Hobby Boss 1/48th Last year was a very quiet year for me modelling wise and am determined 2014 will see me start to clear some of the stash. Having said that, it hasn't been a good start as I have been suffering with a herniated disc in my neck which has made modelling quite painful. My first effort for this year is Hobby Boss's vice free kit of the Me 262 A. Although the panel line and rivet detail isn't really appropriate, it is nicely done. I built it OOB except for some lead wire brake lines and EZ Line antenna wire. Paints were my usual choice of Gunze Mr Hobby Colour and decals came from Eagle Cals: Thanks for looking and look forward to your comments. In the meantime, I am off to go and get rid of that dust!! Regards Howard
  8. Here she is! VF-31's '110', BuNo 519618 as she was at the beginning of OIF in 2003. I used the Hobby Boss 1/48 F-14D, TwoBobs 'Felix in the Fight' decals, Humbrol enamels, W&D Studio pitot and AOA probe, Eduard canopy mask (Godsend!) and a really cheap airbrush. My aspiration was to use as little AM as possible to show what a great kit this is, in my opinion it is superb. It has one or two idiosyncrasies, but still offers a superb amount of value and is a great fitting kit which allows you to make a great looking 'Cat out of the box. I chose not to fill all the rivets, as I don't mid them. I added small touches here and there to improve the kit, but all was done using what's in the modelling box (wire etc). Build thread is HERE
  9. Hi everyone, I'm Tim and a newcomer to this excellent forum! Received my latest addition to the stash this week and wanted to share my progress building this large anhd beautiful modern(ish) aircraft. Not my usual cup of tea (I'm mostly into Cold War British and Russian jets) but I think you'll agree, this is one good looking aircraft even in boring low-vis colours. The kit will be built OOB, except for a replacement ejector seat (Aces II correct me if I'm wrong) by Aires or Pavla. Am also hunting for the excellent Caracal decals sheet, so if anybody can help, please please PM me! I'll be trying some new airbrushing techniques - mainly pre-shading panels as the panel lines on this kit aren't as numerous as other kits, so any pointers and constructive criticism will be most welcome. Will be starting this evening and pics will follow! http://s160.photobucket.com/user/espritenthusiast/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20140304_172049_zps8710b34a.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0 Tim
  10. Finally finished the Hobby Boss kit of the Land Rover 1/35 WMIK with Missile Launcher. It's not a bad kit in all honesty, very cheap and fun to build. I wanted to do this quite rugged and not too clean. Would recommend it, especially for the price! Sam
  11. Built for the Training Types group build. Build thread.
  12. 8 Z-142 primary trainers are operated by the Lom Praha company at their Flight Training Center in Czechoslovakia. Lom Praha conduct basic and advanced flight training for the Czech Air Force. I bought this months ago from Hannants on special offer for less than £3 as part of a big order. When it arrived I was surprised by the size of the box, I had to double check it was 1/72! I'd never heard of Hobby Boss, let alone seen one of their kits in the flesh but I must say I'm impressed with this little beauty. It's a bit hard to make out the detail with it being mostly clear but it does look rather good, the cockpit needs some attention but other than that it should be a nice easy OOB build.

  14. Hi Everyone, Here is 2013 completed model number 12. This is the 1:350 scale Hobby Boss HMS Astute (my first Hobby Boss kit and first photo etch parts kit). This kit has been an absolute joy to build. I would definately look at other Hobby Boss kits in the future. Anyway onto the pictures. Comments welcome. Thanks for looking. Rick
  15. After the D-9 (http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234930559-148th-focke-wulf-fw190d-9-by-hobbyboss-release-february-2013-sprues-pics/?hl=wulf) and D-10 (http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234944110-148th-focke-wulf-fw190d-10-by-hobbyboss-release-september-2013-sprues-pics/?hl=focke) next HobbyBoss 1/48th F***-Woulf will be in November 2013 a Fw.190D-11 with catalogue reference 81718 Source: http://www.hobbyboss.com/index.php?g=home&m=product&a=show&id=163&l=en 1:48 Focke-Wulf FW190D-11 ITEM No.: 81718 V.P.
  16. Hi all, I used to do a bit of modelling 5+ years ago when I was a bit younger with mixed results, I still have some stuff half built that now might get finished. I have loads of kits knocking about that I've bought over the years and have recently really wanted to get back into it. To start off, I went for brush painting (although I have an airbrush, I am just bedding myself back in). My first three models are all of my favourite type, the Hawker Hurricane, they all happen to be the MkIIc varient too although I do have the latest Airfix MkI ready to go at some point. Sorry about the photos, they didn't come out too good but I do intend to sort out a proper scene to photograph stuff in. They are in 'build order', so the first one was my first build and the one at the bottom was the latest! 1. Revell - Hawker Hurricane MkIIc (Trop) - 336 Squadron (Greek) A really nice straightforward build, the only real problem I had with this was the cannons, which naturally snapped off and had to be glued together again. The fit seemed pretty nice although one wing could have done with some filler. Decals went on nice although my positioning of the tail markings could be better. Brush painted with freehand camo so might not look the best, the bottom colour was Humbrol "RAF Blue" as their Azure Blue seemed way off, it's not perfect but seemed closer. The spinner was painted black because I messed up with the red paint which seemed really watery! 2. Hobby Boss - Hawker Hurricane MkIIc - 87 Squadron This was the easiest of the three to build, although it did need gluing together and a fair bit of sanding down to get the fuselage to fit into the wings, also the elevators needed filing to fit into the slots also. Decals went on nicely but they seem too bright compared with the Revell/Airfix offerings. Paint was again freehand, although not sure on the colours, I'm sure they could be better. 3. Airfix - Hawker Sea Hurricane MkIIc - 835 NAS This was largely nice to build but had a few issues, the gear struts were really fiddly to get off the sprue and both snapped, one bit I could not actually find but isn't too noticeable. The propellor looks too small compared with the other two kits and the aerial mast seemed too short, so I cut one off an old Hurricane I made some years ago and filed it down to size to match it. This took a few coats of white, yet only one coat of the underside paint was needed. The decals went on nicely, this was the scheme I wanted to do the most. Again, sorry for the photos, I'll have something better next time I have something to post. I'm happy enough with how they came out, I know they could have been better (defintely with the airbrush) but I find the process of it all very relaxing. Thanks!
  17. Ladys and Gentlemen, I would like to show you my newest model, the TBM3 Avenger Hobby Boss 1/48 If I would ever build one Avenger again, I would choose the Accurate Miniuatures offer. The Hobby Boss kit is nice but the AM kit is superior Thanks for watching. Peter
  18. My second build for this GB, this is the Hobby Boss F9F-2 Panther. Constructionwise, I'll be building this pretty much OOB however, I'll probably bung a resin seat in. As for the markings... I won't be doing an overall blue jet. It will be Light Gull Grey and white, with lots of red stripes. Yep... It'll be in the well known markings of ATU-206 Link to photo --> http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d9/F9F_Panthers_of_ATU-206_at_NAS_Pensacola_1956.jpg Anyway, here's the box. And the parts. As you can see, this kit has been well fondled. Can't wait!

  20. Hi Guys, I will Build a Wildcat mk.V from the Hobby Boss FM-1. It will be build straight out of the box with the exeption of aftermarket decals from Aeromaster and some etched seatbelts. I will place later on some pictures of the content of the box. Cheers,
  21. I read a story on the internet of the rescue of Vega 31. The F-117A which was shutdown over Kosovo in 1999. This was the main inspiration for wanting to make one of those Warthogs. An OA-10A of the 81st Fighter Squadron 'Panthers' on a Combat Search and Rescue mission. That squadron was normally based on Spangdahlem, Germany, and are the ones ever so often practising attack runs on a major bridge in the Netherlands I live close by to. Always a nice sound and sight to see! Decals I have ordered from Afterburner and are on their way. I have all the different boxings of the A-10 but I will be using the Hobby Boss one because it looks to be the most detailed. I also have the Aires sets for cockpit and wheel bays. And an Eduard exterior set as well. Lovely Royale Resins wheel will be following shortly as well. And of course the bible by Jake Melampy. So far the Aires pit needed some updating for a LASTE version, an scratchbuild Option Select Panel on top of the IP and a Data Transfer Unit on the left side of the seat just aft of the ejection 'rails'? Easily made but it adds a lot. Also new side wall insulation because the pattern was wrong and the airco vents were no longer there because the LASTE update changed that to just below of the IP. Made from wine lead. Also the airco pipes on both sides needed therefore be removed. I couldn't find any specific FS number for the cockpit grey, which I finally eyeballed to be Mr.Color 306 Gray FS36270. So I just airbrushed that. Also the HB kit has got some exhausts/vents covered on the aft part of the fuselage. They are now opened up and have a small metal tube inside to create depth. So pictures say more than a thousand words I am told.. Aires is 1,5 mm too short and 1 mm too small.. won't be using that despite the small bump being correct (toothpick).. OSP.. DTU and some oxygen hoses.. other site.. http://www.sidneydekoning.nl/upload/thunderbolt/Hawg036.jpg opening those holes.. Mr.Color 306 is on..

  23. For all of you who helped me out with the "FAA Hellcat Conundrum" thread, here's the result... Painted inside and out with Tamiya acrylics: Dark Grey, Olive Drab and 50/50 Sky + White for the camouflage 50/50 Green + Yellow for interior areas As for markings, the ID codes were masked and painted, roundels are from Xtradecals and all other decals came from the kit sheet. I've been told that the Hobby Boss kit has some pretty bad flaws, but it looks like a Hellcat to me.
  24. This month I have been somewhat limited in my modelling facilities and opportunities, but have managed to complete the 1/350 Hobby Boss Astute Class Submarine kit. Slightly expensive IMHO and the etched brass seems a little pointless, but the kit really is very nicely detailed. Putting it alongside the Airfix Trafalgar Class shows just how big the "Batch 2 Trafalgar Class" is ! AMBUSH is the second of the class to complete and was commissioned into RN service in March 2013.
