This is a good excuse to haul out my 1/48 resin Mew Gull, by Heritage Aviation Models. I bought it several years ago at Telford, but never got around to starting it. I saw G-AEXF flying at Duxford in 2007 (good grief, is it really that long ago?) and read Alex Henshaw's account of his record-breaking London-Cape Town flight shortly thereafter. A really fascinating read, not least for his account of the numerous technical and logistical problems that had to be overcome. An initial look at the parts shows that some clean up will be required - there's a big seam line along the fuselage sides, and a few small bubbles, which is expected. I'd like to try adding a bit more detail in the cockpit, so we'll see how that goes!

Hi all. After I initially wanted to have a go at my Hasegawa Gr.5 in Pegasus testbed livery and then decided to have nothing entered at all because I am such a slow builder I decided today: Who cares? I through in my VAAC Harrier and see what happens. What I have here is a Monogram Harrier which I bought cheap without box and with most parts off the sprues. I am not sure if it is complete but I think it will do the trick. I started to rescribe the parts. Well they are rescribed by now to be honest but not jet sanded. Also in the picture is the Heritage conversion set for the first generation Harrier trainers: Not shown in the picture are the decals I did for the VAAC Harrier. And here is my progress so far (started today apart from the rescribing): This is the cockpit resin piece on which I need to remove some resin to make the forward U/C bay of the Monogram kit fit: And here is the main and the aft fuselage including wheel well and airbrake housing (correct term???) assembled. Howdy! My Supermarine 300 from Heritage Aviation showed up last week. I'm not ready to begin it yet. However, I wanted to share my excitement for my Spitfire Progression Project. It looks to be a very nice, if simple, kit. It dry fits together pretty well as far as I can tell. The wingspan is a bit longer than I expected. If that is the only surprise I get then life is good! Once I get a few more items off my workbench I will start on this model Brent

Hi all, Long time no post! Just starting to bet back into the fray after an extended break. Thought I'd ease my way back into things with the relatively easy and pain free Airfix 1/48 Bucc with HA's resin intakes. Here's the question, the replacement intakes have come without instructions. So how and where have people attached the compressor face parts. The rear of the part has a very thin continuation of the inner part of the intake (one of mine is damaged) how much of this needs to be removed. Just interested in any fitting tips if there are any. Buccaneer S1 Conversion 1:72 Heritage Aviation Models Ltd The initial version of the Blackburn Buccaneer, the S.1, was something of a flop in squadron service thanks to its De Havilland Gyron Junior turbojets. These engines could not produce enough power to enable to aircraft to fulfil its potential and as a result the S.1 was quickly replaced with the S.2, fitted with much more powerful Rolls Royce Spey turbofans. Perhaps as a result of its somewhat short and unsuccessful career, the S.1 has been rather less well represented in kit form compared to the S.2. Nevertheless, the S.1 is an interesting subject to model, not least because some of the aircraft sported a rather fetching anti-flash white scheme in squadron service. Heritage Aviation Model’s conversion set is comprised of replacement engine air intakes and exhausts as, well as the low pressure turbine blade faces that form the rearmost extremity of the Gyron Juniors. The parts are very nicely cast in a smooth, cream-coloured resin and are free from bubbles or other flaws. There is no engraved detail on the outside of the parts, as befits the rather smooth exterior of the Buccaneer, but you may well want to add a little surface detail here and there. By necessity this conversion involves cutting away the corresponding parts on the Airfix kit, but clear, full-colour instructions are provided which should simplify the process somewhat. I’m sure some filling and sanding will be required in order to make everything blend in, but seeing as you’ll probably be breaking open the filler for the rest of the kit, this shouldn‘t be a big deal! Conclusion Whilst it’s a shame that there is no modern, mainstream kit of the early Buccaneer available, at least building such a machine is now relatively straightforward thanks to this conversion set from Heritage Aviation Models. Fresh out is the Heritage Aviation 1/48th DHC-1 Chipmunk - to be honest a bit pricy for such a small aircraft... But cheaper than the Aeroclub one on Ebay. V.P.
