  1. Hil all, it's been a good while since I posted anything here, so I'd like to share one project from 2024 that I'm most proud of. Airfix's 2010s era He111 is was what you Brits might call a curate's egg. Some aspects are excellent. There are great interior details, things scale out just right, and the complex curves of the wings and canopy are captured perfectly. The engineering of the complex landing gear is done very cleverly, and I like that Airfix gives you the option to open the unique vertical bomb bay (curiously, there are no bombs provided). On the other hand, fit was a little tricky in places, and I used more filler than I have on other Airfix models from the period. I had a very hard time fitting the four piece glass nose, but I think much of that was due to user error. My advice is to glue the three main pieces together BEFORE you add them to the fuselage. The fit of the lower wings and flaps was also tight, and the fit of the side windows was extremely tight side windows didn't fit at all without major shaving. What really surprised me was the low quality of the decals. Airfix has established a track record of supplying excellent decals printed by Cartograph. Indeed, the box side says Cartograph. But these have a thick flat finish, and were a little stiffer than any Cartograph decals I used before. They reminded me more of old Italeri decals. They also had very poor adhesion, and some of the smaller stencils fell off after they had dried. I hope I just got a bad batch, because this was totally uncharacteristic. As for the build. It went quickly. I think I finished the model in about three weeks, which is very fast for me. Despite some of the fit issues, the kit is designed to be quickly assembled. I added some paper belts, and replaced the stick-like Airfix MGs, with the somewhat overscaled, but more MG-ie looking guns from the old Italeri heinkel. I also used a set of resin wheels I had laying around. The model was painted with Mr. Color RLM 65, 70, and 71. I also applied several shades of green, brown, and drab colored oil paint filters (basically dirty thinner), to shift the colors and add some tonal variety. The exhaust stains are Tamiya smoke. I lightened the greens just a touch in an effort to achieve the look of an airplane under sunny skies, and I didn't want the model to turn into a heinkel-shaped black hole on my display shelves, with the two very dark greens. These might look too bright for some color purists, but I think they make the model visually more interesting. Alse the colors have a lot less contrast when not under my bright photography lights. So there we have it. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this one a 6. The fit issues were one thing, but the poor decals really brought this one down by one or two points.
  2. Can I join in with this one please?? Its from the stash, always a good incentive to get it built! Battered box - surely the previous owner looked inside and said - nah.... cool box art tho Sprues - apologies for lighting - cant really see the quality of the plastic... Looks t be a bit of flash and some indistinct moulding here and there - nothing I am not used to And kit and aftermarket decals from Steelwork-Models.DE. I am fancying a splinter 3 colour camo machine - a few options. Kit decals present the serial in white, whereas I have only ever seen black serials - anyone comment? Wont be starting until I have completed the three models in the Heli group build, so need to push on with those. Cheers JP
  3. I don't learn of my mistakes. I was stupid enough to build the He111C and later stood in the hobby store holding a He111B but then remembered what the kit was like and decided on not to build one. Now some years later I am sitting here with a kit anyway. Let get in to the misery. It's no big secret that the box for the landing gear is too high to fit inside the wing halves. The sides of the box were this time built together without the "ceiling" and glued in place. Then the sides could be cut down to the appropriate height to fit. I used the Dremel to deepen and extend the recess for "the roof". Of course I sanded through the plastic as it became too thin. I think it would have been easier to skip" the roof" and glue some plastic strips directly into the wing instead .The upper half of the wings need to be thinned out at the rear to get it right. My earlier build:
  4. Hello, I would like to share with you the short serie of captured Heinkel He111 in british markings (1/72 scale). My father has finished two models out of three. 1) 2) Cheers Santiago
  5. One of my (many) New Year’s resolutions is one build per GB ( the only exception will be the Tiger GB) so this will be my sole ( crossing my fingers while I type) contribution to this GB still have to decide on the scheme but I am very tempted to build a Spanish civil war B model we shall see….. Or cheat and build it as a Casa 2
  6. One of my latest models from 2019/2020. was a lot of fun to build, because there is nothing complicated. The only thing I did that I riveted the model. weathering and painting in the most usual methods we mostly know. sometimes it’s good to pick a model from the stash that you want to build 20 years ago !!! have fun….. Cheers Andy
  7. Just purchased, off E bay, an old 1962 Lindberg Heinkel kit. The seller warned me that there could be pieces missing and for sure there was. So before we all start falling about laughing, I thought it would come in handy as to just paint the parts with the airbrush; and get some practice in If there is a chance of getting it sorted, however, I would love to use it as a project and build it. I can see this is a bit slim; due to it being an old kit. However, most of the parts are there and the ones that are broke will be fixed. At a million to one shot what would be the chances of getting an upper Aileron and some propellers for this project. Any suggestions as to were to source parts are 3D print them; without getting into silly money. Could anyone tell me the scale of this kit as its a bit bigger than 1/72. P.S - Not sure if Ive posted in the right place. Is there a place in the forums where you could possible ask people and try to scrounge spare parts. Thank you most kindly.
  8. Just finished this, the new one from Airfix, a very nice kit, decals are from Kangero. Sorry the sign should read "Kampfgeschwader" ☺️ Cheers Jes
  9. I heard just recently that the He 111 kit in my stash should contain all of the parts needed to build the torpedo variant. It just lacks the actual torpedoes and that´d not be a problem. Substituting parts F1 and F2 with G1 and G2, plus J7:s with J8:s should do the trick? Browsing quickly through the Revell 1:32 scale kit instructions I couldn´t spot other differences. I´m a bit suspicious with parts J6 and K5 that are shown as parts not used in the bomber variant. I hope someone with the bomber kit (Hasegawa #00753, rare as hens' teeth) instructions could confirm these, please! Regards, V-P
  10. Hello All, Here is an Airfix Heinkel 111, extensively modified, and backdated to an H-1. The model represents the "Humbie Heinkel", which was the first German bomber to be shot down over the British mainland, in October 1939 . Build thread is here. I had a lot of fun doing it, but I won't be doing another one. Thanks for all the comments and support along the way! Thanks for looking, Adrian
