Hi folks, After what has been a very protracted build, I present my attempt at the whatif He277B-1. The backstory was going to involve the DB610 engine being made to work, followed by German aspirations for something that could carry a heavier payload further than a He177. During the course of the build, I realised that the Airfix '177 cowlings were significantly smaller than those of the Revell kit. I therefore now think this was merely an attempt to reengine the '177 with smaller engines that actually worked. Backstory aside, here is my cut n shut, comprised of 2 Airfix He 177s, a butchered Revell He 177A-6 rear section of considerably reduced height and 2 upside down E-2C fins. Both fuse and wings have been extended and the armament system has been upgraded. Hope you like it: regards, Martin

Bit of background - the past 4-5 months I have been stalled on a couple of ship builds that I was really keen to do, plus my Dr Strangelove B-52H and the 1/32 Cobra. Nothing wrong with them, just seem to have run out of enthusiasm. Through an unlikely sequence of events a couple of weeks ago, I started building a couple of Luftwaffe subjects in 1/72. I finished both of them this weekend. Now I'm hooked!! I can finally understand why people love this 1/72 Luftwaffe thing. This is Revell's He177A-6 Greif, straight from the box with kit decals, (except the swastikas!): This was built for a project our club is involved with, it's a Kora Models resin/PE kit of the highest quality. It's a Ju88G-7 Special, captured after the war's end and used for research: Both are finished in Xtracrylix (I take back everything I said about this paint in the past, it's awesome!) and painting the camo is as much modelling fun as I've had for yonks. I know there are probably mistakes and inaccuracies but I genuinely don't care. As a therapeutic build and restorer of lost mojo, these were great builds. I've started another Ju88G-6 night fighter (Zvezda, lovely kit) and a Dragon He219B-1 Uhu (not quite as good, but whatever.) The best thing about all this is I'm totally ignorant of this subject, which means all pretensions of accuracy and exactitude are out the window - I'm discovering modelling again! Man, I LOVE this hobby!
