Hello All, I've started an Airfix Hawker Demon, as the first of a planned sequence of builds covering the Hart family from various kit manufacturers. For these builds I have an Airfix Hart and a Demon - the Demon (Left) is a modification of the Hart mould (Right), "modernised" with added fabric sag (shame!). I am using up my dodgy Hart with a warped top wing and slightly warped fuselage - I still have a mint one in the stash. The Demon seems to be about 3mm short and the fin/rudder is off compared to photos, but otherwise pretty accurate in outline. The Mushroom Model book plans and the Air Pictorial plans both match the kit, but they come up about a foot short. The old Harleyford/Aeromodeller plans show the right length. First stage was to lengthen the fuselage and add some cockpit detail. I rebuilt the gunners cockpit as well, as the Airfix one doesn't really line up against my references. Hi, I am about to start on the Airfix A19002 Hawker Typhoon, but this will be a museum restoration diorama. Some of you may have seen my Heinkel He 111 on the model show circuit: I posted some pics back in May 2015: Being new to modelling aircraft; figures, rusted vehicles & post apocalyptic are my usual thing, I was wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of some good reference material, books, websites etc, on construction of the real thing. I want to make this diorama as accurate as possible, as much as some of you on here who have made the finished article. I have Richard Franks "The Hawker Typhoon" book on modelling the Airfix 1/24 scale kit, which has some great pics of a real Typhoon in bits, this leads to some questions: Is the MkIb fabric, metal covered or a combination of both, is so which parts of the plane are covered in which material? Where does the wing attach to the central fuselage, is it the same as the Hurricane? As the build progresses, I'm sure I will have more questions, so suggestions, help greatly appreciated. I've had the revell hunter for a while and wanted to build it but just haven't had the time since i gave been very busy for the last few months with exams. However, with my final exam this week the group build seemed like the perfect motivation to start the hunter as a summer project, since i never seem to finish models without the pressure of a GB! Im going to be building the hunter without aftermarket parts although i may get aftermarket decals as i am very tempted by the idea of modelling XE601, the 'rasberry ripple' hunter which was sold for spares use a few years ago, as it is a much more exciting scheme than the green and grey camoflage. I've been taking abit of a break from modelling and this will be the first ket of the year for me, and also my first 1/32 kit so im excited to see what it will be like making a larger model. So far i have only started the ejector seat but more progress should follow soon. Work has started on the ejector seat. I need some new paints as they have all started to dry up! Will

I finished this model last night. It represents the plane on which Pierre Clostermann was flying. You know everything about the models, there are no problems for work, except for the decals that are terribly fat. I am pleased that it all turned out in the end. Here's the picture. [

Hi All! I'm starting here to share with you this build of my second kit after finishing my first one 25 years ago (ok, I feel older now... ). I didn't documented the whole building process as I wasn't part of Brittmodeller when I started this kit, but I think these pictures will give you a good idea of it. I'm using an airbrush for the first time and I'm really happy with this incredible tool, I just can't believe it! All my paints have been Tamiya acrylics so far but I'm finding new tools and products almost every day. I moved from Argentina to Canada in 2014 and when I decided to start again building plastic models I was amazed with the variety of resources that I have here compared to Argentina. Just the chance to go to an airshow here in Edmonton and see warbirds from WWII flying is something that I was only able to dream about before moving here. I really like the quality of this Airfix kit, and this subject in particular has been always of my interest, the Typhoon looks so powerful aircraft that I always liked it. Ok, here are the pictures, I hope you like them but please give me any suggestions or comments that you might find useful, I'm trying to learn everyday so every tip even when it could sound too obvious is welcome. The fitting of the wings to the fuselage was a little tricky and I probably should have spent more time trying to make it fit better, but that will be something to consider on future builds The bottom part of the nose required a decent amount of putty but once painted it looked quite good. Ready to start the painting process After the first coat of the bottom color everything looked much better, that putty thing is magic! Yup, I didn't know where to find that impressive thing called blue tack to hold paper stencils with my camouflage so I had to do this with masking tape. It wasn't that bad after all but the edges were too sharp for a real camouflage. Murphy's law, I found the lovely blue tack on Staples right after finishing this part, LOL By far, one of the most exciting parts was to remove the tape and reveal the two colours there she is with the prop and spinner already painted Starting with the decals after two coats of Tamiya Clear, my original plan was to use these black and white stripes that look so good on the wings of the Typhoon, but I had a massive fiasco when trying to put the first one, that ended up destroyed. I was too upset to take the time to mask them and airbrush them, so I just decided to go with the other option from the kit (thanks Airfix!) I was trying to set the decals with Tamiya Mark Fit, but honestly I couldn't see if this thing is doing something to the decals at all. After my failure with the stripes I didn't even try to go with the yellow lines on the leading edge so I masked them and airbrushed these. Now I have found Micro Sol, which seems to work much better, but I couldn't find a bottle of Micro Set, so for now I finished using only a little bit of micro sol after placing each decal. I found this one to work much better than the Tamiya Mark Fit, but in some cases like the letters and numbers on the sides of the fuselage, I never saw wrinkles after applying micro sol. Not sure if the decal was too thick on these or what, but they didn't go into the recesses of the panel lines. Anyways I'm really happy with the result so far, I'm not sure if from here I should apply another coat of tamiya clear or try with Future to seal the decals before finding some courage to try a certain level of weathering, for which I'm kind of worried. I got a couple bottles of Tamiya panel line accent (black and dark brown) that I'll try to use. I have to glue the exhausts and then find the way to apply some smoke, but I'm a little scared to use my airbrush as I don't feel confident to do such a thin lines on the model yet. Not sure if trying with pastels would be less risky at this point. What do you think? After this I'm planning to apply either a coat of Tamiya X86 or a Vallejo Matt Varnish, what would you use? I tried the Tamiya one on a spare piece and it is quite matt but it gave me a white look that I didn't like too much, but I read later that this could have been related to the humidity in the air when I was spraying it. Suggestions are welcome here. Like I said before, I have lots of questions as I go, so your input is really appreciated. Thank you! Lomcevak

Evening fellow Modellers. I have a question that i'm hoping one of you clever lot can answer about the under side of the Hawker Typhoon. I'm in the middle of assembling and have noticed this: What is it and is it relevant for a 1B operating in Europe at the end of 1944? I'd like to add it as it will hide an 'orrbile seam but I do like accuracy... Thanks in advance!

Hello all, I'm currently researching the Vokes filter for my Hurricane IIC build. None of the plans seem to fit the filters I see on the period photographs. Also it would appear to have slight differences between the filters. Maybe some were field replacements and others factory-installed? I have also seen the words 'Aerovee' or 'Aero-Vee' associated with 'Vokes'. What are they? Brand name, variants? I'm counting on you Hurricane fans to shed a light on that matter. This is my Revell Hurricane in 1/72, this one being in No. 336 (Greek) Squadron, Desert air force, RAF, LG 8 Mersa Matruh, Egypt, 1944. The kit is good, with great surface detail and nice cockpit. Fit of parts is average, with the panel on the bottom of the fuselage and sand filter being the worst. Other than that, it's a great little kit. It was airbrushed with tamiya acrylics, weathered with tamiya acrylics and humbrol enamels. (Ask if you want to know details) To some it may be over-weathered, but I'm not too fussy I would hav liked to make it more dusty, but I'll live with it for now You'll probably notice that one of the cannon flash marks is a bit crooked, and the canopy frames may be in the wrong place, but this is my first time ever (I know ) masking a canopy!!! Enough of my yapping, on with the pictures! Hope you like it (Sorry about the pictures... it was cloudy for once!! But WOOHOOO! [You will by now know I'm not a Brit, but I am a modeller..... ]) Oh yeah... base was wood, ground cover was sand, water, PVA glue, and Humbrol 93 acrylic paint.... Thanks for looking!!

I've picked up one of these for £10 and having a quick search I realise I can't do a GR.1 without a lot of work, so can I make one of the 6 delevopement batch a/c prior to the pre-production GR.1s'. The ejection seat in the kit is with the large head box, when did this change from the earlier type. Cockpit colours look like gray. I need to fashion the two vents directly behind the canopy. I've just started to fill in the sink holes and research is ongoing but any info would be greatly received. Steve.

Good morning, as some of you may know, I finished the Hunter in a rather quick period of time. Actually, it was my fastest build ever! A few details about the model: it's the well-praised Hunter F.6 from Revell, which unfortunately is a bit hard to find nowaday. It was built strictly OOB, I only added two rods connecting the nose wheel leg to the gear door, and added some transparent nav lights, no resin, no PE. Painting was done with Gunze acryls and Tamiya flat alu, oil wash after some gloss cote, semigloss at the very end. Decals had to be altered a bit, as the front part of the pizza slice is straight, not curved (see WIP in the Hunter GB) Still, the confidentional "internal error list" is rather long, but I guess I will have forgotten the most items after a few days.
