  1. Hello all, Today I have a finished Matchbox Hawker Fury - a lovely kit really, and one I look forward to building again. Markings represent an aircraft from the RAFs 43 Squadron "Fighting Cocks" in the mid 1930s, but the red on the vertical tail is incorrect - I've learned not to always trust the instructions as a result. Otherwise I'm happy. The photo isn't great but in the absence of any real sunlight lately, it'll have to do. Happy holidays all, Stay safe, Tweener
  2. Hello all, Today I have the Matchbox 1/72 Hawker Fury in progress. Like most MB kits, the build process is quick, and I had this much done after a few hours of on / off modeling last weekend - In the days that followed, paint was quick and easy thanks to Testors enamel spraypaints and MM Insignia Red, and decals went down over the course of yesterday and today. At first I had lost one of the upper roundels, but it was found this evening and applied. The red on the tail is not accurate, as K 1933 should have it and not 1938, but I trusted the instructions before I found the photo showing otherwise, and my hands are not careful enough to correct it without painting over the rudder stripes as well. All that remains now is the prop, and eventually, attaching the windscreen. Hopefully more British Bipes are to follow throughout the early new year - I have a MB Gladiator on the way, and soon I plan to have another Fury or two as well. Perhaps another Hart / Demon will follow as well if I can get my hands on some ModelDecal sheets. Thanks all, Happy Holidays, Tweener
  3. Here's another of my older builds. The Matchbox Hawker Fury, which is a lovely, easily assembled kit. I think this must have been a latter production as the sprues were two different shades of silver, quite restrained for Matchbox. For a parked aeroplane the u/c should be shortened. I started to rig but discovered invisible thread was...invisible, so gave it a miss. I plan to try rigging on my next biplane, honest. Metal panels are good old school Humbrol 11 whilst the doped areas are Revell Aluminium with matt varnish to dull it back. All brushed with enamels, I look froward to trying a silver plane again now I have an airbrush. Cheers Will
  4. Hello gentlemen, I would like to make the first version of this illustration, but didn't find the photo of the real aircraft. Can someone help me? Thanks in advance.
  5. Hello Chaps, I've finally completed my first build of the New Year, 2016...now on with the next one! Firstly, I'd like to say that this isn't a kit that I would normally be interested in buying, because of its 36 yr age, poorly engineered and molded parts, a few parts at that, the lack of details, raised panel lines and rivet details, with some rivets being very large for this scale model, and, there was a lot of clean-up to do regarding flash and parting-line miss-match. The engine cowling was poor fitting and there were gaps present at the joints of mating parts. But, that said...I needed a plane that was suitable for a "Spanish Civil War" group Build that I wanted to participate in, on YouTube, and one that was 1/48 scale or larger. Well, that's where my problem arose...I could find 1/72 scale aircraft and after market decals for 1/72, but nothing larger. I therefore decided that I was going to paint all of the markings on myself. Despite my efforts to turn a "pigs ear" into a "silk purse", I felt that I was always trying to overcome the fact that the molded parts look so cheap and "toy-like". Ha well, I stuck with her and posted my best effort with what I had available. For the rigging, I used Heavy black EZ-Line- 1.015" thick, and for the antenna cables, I used Fine black EZ-Line - 1.010" thick. I drilled holes through the vertical and horizontal stabilzers as well as one each side of the fuselage for the elevator and rudder actuator cables and I scratch built the antenna cable hard point at the top of the vertical stabilizer. I'm disappointed with it myself, because I had gotten so comfortable building well engineered and molded 1/32 scale kits....I choose large scale because my eyesight has gotten terrible in the last couple of years as I get closer to my 60 years of age! Anyway, I hope you enjoy the fact that it is different with its Spanish Republican Air Force markings as opposed to the British markings that are normally applied to these models. Enough waffling, here's the photos... So there she is, be gentle...it is a poor kit and no after-market enhancements were used to try to help her out, if any exist? But, if they did, I wouldn't waste the money on AM parts for a kit this old and poorly engineered and molded. I didn't do a build log on here leading up to this "Final Revea", but I did create "Build Update" videos on my YouTube Channel, along with an introduction video and a final reveal video. If you'd like to see how I constructed, painted and weathered this kit, then here are the links to my "Build Series" videos for this model: "Introduction" video link: https://youtu.be/HRoT0Frosvs "Build Update #1" video link: https://youtu.be/jM1voNN10CM "Build Update #2" video link: https://youtu.be/m6A5j3TsEUA "Build Update #3" video link: https://youtu.be/ZcHffhZkBAE "Final Reveal" video link: https://youtu.be/Me-q2zLHqs0 Thanks in advance for taking a look at this posting, watching any of my videos and leaving any comments, greatly appreciated! In the mean-time, happy modeling and have fun! Cheers
  6. Well nothing I voted for in the great GB vote for 2016 got through! Oh the humanity! But rather than retire to my (metaphorical) shed to cry I decided to repurpose one of my kits to this GB. Here I have the Matchbox 1/72 Hawker Fury. One of the most beautiful of the Golden Ages planes in my opinion. I picked the kit up last year from Rare Plane Detectives, when I was on a work trip to Vegas. If ever you happen to find yourself in that deranged city it is well worth seeking out and is an amazing Alladin's cave of a shop. The kit is still sealed in cellophane, I haven't got time to check it out today but plan to sit down and take stock of the contents tomorrow. I've got a few reference books, 2 sets of markings for it (both for machines from 1 Squadron) and I got the Yahu PE instrument panel. I'm going to scratch build the rest of the cockpit but other than that that it will be pretty much OOB. Cheers Segan
  7. All, Just thought I'd pose some questions here to hopefully seek some clarification on those pre-war camouflaged Hawker Furies operated by No.1 & 43 Squadrons. Whilst searching the 'net, I found a nice range of photographs showing No.43 Squadron Furies in various A & B camouflage schemes with B&W undersurfaces. The Ducimus Camouflage & Markings No.5 booklet also mentions that these aircraft could have also had their wheel discs, propeller spinners and in some cases ailerons?, painted in Flight colours. In a few cases some aircraft also had their underwing Port roundel overpainted in "Night" in the form of a Black disc. By my eyes, I would have thought that "B" Flights yellow colouring would have stood out amougst the Reds & Blues of A & C flights, however in these B&W images all wheel discs seem to be of similar tones. Just wondering if (over the last 40 or so years) has any more information about these aircraft come to light?
