  1. To me the red, white and grey scheme is the best for this aircraft, and the one I remember from various airshows and bases in the 80s. I used the Airfix Red Arrow kit for this build, with thanks to @Dr. Quack for the etched instrument panels. I also bought some CMK resin seats and Xtradecal stencils. I did a small amount of scratch building, just a couple of aerials and the canopy mirrors, handle and hinges and some detail inside the airbrake. The kit went together reasonably well, though I needed filler around the intake joins and wing roots. Nice that Airfix included the option to have the flaps down. XX314 was delivered to the RAF in July 1980. After serving for many years with 4 FTS at Valley it was also operated by 100 Sqn. The model shows the aircraft in its mid-80’s heyday whilst at Valley in the fast-jet pilot training role. All comments and suggestions welcome!
  2. Time to start a new kit, and as sadly it seems the ubiquitous Hawk T.1 will soon be retired it can also be a bit of a tribute to the type. My build was actually inspired by reading Mandy Hickson’s superb book ‘An Officer, Not A Gentlemen’, which I cannot recommend highly enough. I’m only half way through, in the chapter about her FJ training at Valley on these very aircraft. So here goes, hopefully I do it justice. Obligatory box shot. Very surprised to find there’s also a T2 fuselage in the bag of sprues. Is that normal? I still have some 4 FTS decals for it. I’ll be doing the standard 80’s red and white trainer, with white fuselage numbers like I remember from many airshows. Might need some aftermarket for that big cockpit.
  3. Quick project - Airfix 1/72 Hawk T.1, edition A50155 "RAF Benevolent Fund". Nothing special, but I saw XX278 and XX230 in this scheme at NATO Days in Ostrava-Mosnov in September 2012 and just loved it! I`ve started this kit years ago, but had no patience for those decals. Finished today. Thanks for watching!
  4. Hi, I just finished this 1/72 Airfix Hawk T.1. I used Eduard photo-etched and CMK resin parts. Tamiya paints and Future were used for the finish. Let me know what you think. Thanks!
  5. Dawn on the Chivenor apron ... Hawk ready for the day's flying with 2 TWU. The kit took quite a lot of work to fill and sand, with the fuselage consisting of three separate blocks and not joining particularly well. There were also gaps around the intakes and wing roots, but I did my best to fill these. Despite this, the overall shape seems nice, if a little basic. Being an ebay special as usual this one had no decals, so I used the Xtradecal set. I also used the gun pod from the Airfix Hawk as I'll be doing that as either a Red Arrow or 4 FTS, so it won't be needed. The cockpit is very basic too, and having no decals I decided to hand paint the instrument panels, plus I added a few straps to the bang seats. XX283 was used as the main aircraft for the 1989 season Hawk display, flown by Flt Lt Simon Meade. As always, any comments and advice always welcome.
  6. Hot on the tail of the Buccaneer, and this looks a rather simpler kit, with just two main sprues. As a cheap ebay special, there were no decals, but fortunately @Stephen came to the rescue back in May - thank you for the Xtradecals mate! I'm going to make this one as a 151 sqn jet based at Chivenor in the 1980s, to complement my Jag and Bucc. I've never heard of Premiere as a kit manufacturer before, so let's see how this goes ...
  7. Morning folk's, number four build was an unplanned entry,I picked up the 1/48 Gnat/Hawk Red Arrows boxing a couple of year's ago for a silly £10 and they have sat in a drawer ever since, anyway the need to order decal's for the Spitfire Vb prompted me to also order Extradecal's sheet for the 19 Sqn scheme,it fit's in well as I have not seen photo's of her in anything but clean condition and as this boxing of the Hawk comes with no weapons or tank's nothing is wasted!Decals arrived just now so once I do another couple of session's on the Spitfire and Meteor which are near the finish line I'll start this to run alongside the Gladiator. Here is what I started ages ago.
