Finally I can post this build. The Eduard Ltd Edition Harrier GR 7 using the Hasegawa moulds and a spot of Eduard magic makes this kit one of my all time favourites: and I am honoured the build made it into November's issue of Airfix Model World. Here are a few more pics that didn't make it into the publication..

With the hawk awaiting a full bottle of primer to arrive, and a week of annual leave in hand, it's time to get a second aircraft onto the bench. The Hawk was an OOB build to get me by, but this Harrier has a few extras to test me and so I can learn a few things as I go. I've gone with the Eduard rebox of what I believe is the Hasegawa Harrier. I've picked up some Brassin and Eduard accessories as you can see, They include a THERMA poem Sniper ATP, UK RBF tags and a step ladder. Although I'm left wondering if the UK use(d) ladders like this? The set comes with Cartograf decals for the following 6 designs: As well as the standard array of sprues: It also comes with a correct resin seat, to frames of photo-etch parts (one in full colour), new wheels and a sheet of pre cut masks. Harrier GR.9A ZD433 moves into FAA Museum Concorde Hangar

I took a drive down to Yeovilton today, to get some data on the buildings for a dio I'm doing, and saw a Harrier being moved towards the FAAM. I didn't have my camera with me so I had to use my mobile phone. It took a few goes, moving the aircraft in and back out before it finally went in! Mike Back out again! Mike -
In my opinion the Harrier was one of the greatest aircraft of all time, with its revolutionary design and brilliant (British) engineering leading the way which has only now been followed by the costly, troubled and prohibitively expensive F-35. Not only did the Harrier serve with distinction for over 40 years, it helped ensure the freedom of UK citizens on the Falklands and fought for freedom in the middle east, before our short-sighted, penny-pinching and ignorant politicians prematurely retired what is still a vastly capable aircraft. One of the first batch of Harriers to enter service, XV748 was delivered to the RAF's Harrier OCU in May 1969, before transferring to number 1 squadron at Wittering. It was converted to a GR.3 in July 1974, and survives to this day at the Yorkshire air museum, Elvington. This new tool Airfix kit is absolutely superb, and highly recommended! Parts fit together really well and the attention to detail and accuracy is fantastic. The model is built OOB except for the slight serial change to represent a Harrier that still survives. (If anyone knows what tail code XV748 wore with 1 squadron please can you let me know?!)- 19 replies

Hi all Here is my take on the 1/48 Kinetic Harrier T.4 Finished it a few weeks ago but haven't got round to taking any pics until today. Its built straight out of the box with the exception of the scratch built intake blanks. and while the suns shining I took a pic of the T.4 with my other 48th Harriers. Time to stake my place in this GB with kinetic's excellent new 1/48 2 seat Harrier. I don't need to give much of an introduction to this kit as there have already been some great reviews and builds here on Britmodeller so you will already know that it is a very nice kit indeed so no doubt any problems or mistakes will be my own. Here is the ubiquitous box top shot; And the sprues all tightly packed inside and still sealed; The options available from the kit; And the very comprehensive decal sheet; As you can see there are markings for every operator of first gen Harriers on there and pretty much any one built can be made from it, which is good as as per usual I will not be sticking to an out of the box example and want to do something a bit different and having a liking for winter camo schemes have found this; Now if I can find a picture or serial number of one of the T4's which went with 1 squadron on one of there Norway deployments and received a proper wrap around job I will build that one instead. And here are some of the references I will be using; Hope to make a start on Saturday so hopefully won't be too long before the next update. Thanks for looking in. Craig.

Just done with this little 'un for the Hawker GB here on the forum and happy how it turned out for an ancient kit. The short build thread is here if you're so inclined but to recap: Kit: Esci 1/72 AV-8A Matador Build: Tamiya tape for seatbelts, opened the intake flaps but rest OOB. Paints: White from a rattle can. Light Gull Grey mixed from Revell Acrylics (yes, I do that!) and applied with hairy stick. Klear, Flory Models Wash and Satin varnish. Pencil for some of the panel lines. Decals: From the kit after two weeks in the window. And alongside an Italeri (ex Esci) Royal Navy Sea Harrier in Black 14 markings built a couple of years back. Really enjoyed it and might try to squeeze in another build in the Harrier family soon. Thanks for looking! Dermot

Just about finished, this is my Sword 1/72 Harrier T4N built to represent XW268 as it sits today at the Norwich Aviation Museum, Norfolk. The kit has been chopped about as appropriate and there is the addition of an Airfix IFR probe which was kindly donated to me. Ignore the base, as this is just something rough for it to sit on until I can do a better one! The model has been painted by hand using Humbrol enamels and Model Color acrylics. The tarp over the cockpit area is a piece of 5p supermarket carrier bag over a plastic strip frame. I had all manner of problems with the Sword kit not least the undercarriage. Overall, very few parts actually fit; though to be fair, in the end, I didn't use much filler. That being said, there were a few times when it nearly got thrown against the wall. The decals are from the kit, spares box and home-made.

For as long as I can remember, I wanted to be in the RAF. On my bedroom wall was this poster Flying wasn’t for me, short sightedness and hay fever ruled me out, but driving, now that’s something I could do. MTD none of this new Logs driver rubbish. 22 years passed in the blink of an eye, but so many great memories. Whilst searching on the Tinterweb, I stumbled across this, Now this gives me an idea, a quick rummage through the stash and hey presto Harriers have always been a favourite aircraft of mine for some reason, and I’m used to them in kit form. In fact this is the last one I “built” You can see it on the back of my truck😎.

Hello everyone, I have just bought the very nice ESCI Sea Harrier FRS1 kit. I would like to depart a little bit from the ubiquitous Falkland War camo, and the late Indian FRS Mk51 camouflage has caught my eye : While the tanks and moving canopy look like they still are painted EDSG and white, I have no clue about the main camo colour. Does any one of you know what is the colour used for this camo, and a corresponding model paint equivalent? Are the undersides the same colours (could not find any picture)? And by the way, what are the main visible differences between FRS1 and late FRS51 (beside the weaponry which I am not going to use on my model)? Thanks in advance!

Hi folk's last entry(probably) will be the re-vamped Sea Harrier as I believe Matchbox tinkered with the mold from the original,I built the hi viz original but not this boxing as I lost interest in jet's many moons ago,another seven quid special from King Kit should arrive soon. This is the boxing I've ordered.

BAe Harrier GR.7 No.1 Squadron - Royal Air Force - Bardufoss Air Station (Ex. Snow Falcon) 2004 1/48 Revell With the vast majority of recent RAF aircraft adorning not so attractive grey on grey schemes, non standard schemes tend to catch the eye. Whilst going through my Dad's images from the early 2000's there are a number of images of white winter camo Jaguar's, Tornados and a few Harriers. Cue a project that I am glad to say I am one model into, recreate a series of winter deployment camo aircraft! The first of which comes from Revell's rebox of the Hasegawa GR7/9 kit. Marked as a 1 Squadron aircraft from the final Harrier deployment to Bardufoss, Norway for Exercise Snow Falcon '04 the aircraft has been finished in the state a lot of my reference shots show during the deployment. Decals were provided by the Model Alliance "Harriers: The First Ten Years" 48-102 and the cockpit was replaced with the Aires GR7 cockpit, annoyingly the canopy fogged a little whilst trying to attach it and so the interior is somewhat obscured, but I am going to play it off as it's cold in Norway and the canopy has glazed over a little Onto the images; Thanks for looking and expect a WIP for the next RAF Winter camouflaged jet at some point, but I'm yet to decide on Jaguar, Tornado or Buccaneer! Hi all, I'm just about to start building a Kinetic Harrier T4 for the Hawker Siddeley GB and want to build it as an aircraft deployed to Norway with the corresponding winter camo. I have found some pictures of 4 Sqn birds with partial winter camo but would really like to an a/c with the full wrap around where the green is replaced by white. I know that some were painted in that way as I have found pictures online which show single seaters nice and clearly and teasingly show just the extended tail portions of a 2 seater, typical! So if any of you can help with pictures or even supply the codes and sqn number of Harrier T birds in that scheme I would be extremely grateful. Thanks in advance. Craig.

2017 wasn't quite as profilic as I had hoped, but putting out 3 kits this year is actually a huge lot more than I'm used to , so it isn't all that bad! First up was the good old Monogram 1/48 Harrier in the '70 Nato vs Warzaw pact GB: Next up was the good old Hobbycraft 1/72 DeHavilland Canada Caribou in the DeHavilland GB: and last up was the not so old, but still good Dragon 1/72 Mercury rocket in the Prototype and X-planes GB: Merry X-Mas to all from snowcovered Kolt in Denmark Hans J

Time for a new build. This time I was looking for a quick easy build. So something new, without the need to rescribe, and an easy paint job. A quick delve into the stash and I came up with this. I've already built the Airfix FS1 Gr1, Gr3 and Gr9 versions, so this will be a nice addition. I also love the way these kits go together so it should be an easy build with very little filling and sanding. I'm going to build it as option A on the Airfix colour sheet. This is is a Harrier XZ457 from the Hermes battle group during the Falklands war. It should look well in my cabinet next to the other 4.

After a year when I have really struggled to find time for modelling, I have definitely been busy over the Christmas break! These are both based on the old ESCI model (still IMHO the best 1/72 Harriers), using both decal options from one box (one of these kits came as a dirty bag of bits without decals, but fortunately with all its parts!). First up, an AV-8A of the US Marines: And then a Matador - Toro, toro, see you tomorrow my son! When you can't decide what to build, build a Harrier, then build another for luck - Happy New Year all! Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year to you all. I would like to share my last build of the bench with Kinetics new 2 seat Harrier. There is a little bit of a story around this kit so to keep it brief the kit arrived on the 14th October and work started immediately with a deadline for the kit to be on display at Telford just four weeks later. For those eagle eyed modellers amongst you it was on the IPMS Lancashire club display at SMW. Cant go into too much detail as the build will be in print. But a much improved build than their two Sea Harriers and a first in 1/48th scale injection moulded plastic. A thoroughly enjoyable built any one who thought NMFs were difficult than they should try gloss black! All out the box with Tamiya gloss black and Eduard RBF tags. Thanks for looking Rick G

Hi all, Kit manufacture: Airfix Scale: 1/72 Type: Hawker Siddeley Harrier Gr.1 Extras used: Totally OOB Paints and colours used: Mr Hobby Aqueous H330/H331/H332 for the Dark Green, Dark Seagray, Light Aircraft Grey camo. Vallejo Metal Color Magnesium for exhausts, Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics elsewhere. Weathered with Flory Dark Dirt and Grime, and oil paints. All sealed with Aqua Gloss. Long time no see! To be honest with you, I got a bit disheartened by the photoshop thing so have been out of forums for a while. But, I've got a new photo setup and I'm back in! This is one I have just finished for a SiG on another forums. This is my first inflight model and whilst I've never been too into them, I have to say I love how she looks in the air, so will definitely be doing more airborne jets! The kit, other than a few fit issues in the wheel wells that didn't affect this build, is great. Falls together! I think the surface detail looks good and, although slightly overdone for 1/72, is more than acceptable. Here's the pics: That's about it. Thank you for stopping by! I planning on making a 1:72 Hawker Siddeley Harrier T bird conversion, and am after some accurate measurements, can anyone help? Thought of adapting some drawings using the AV-8A cross sections (http://aviationarchives.blogspot.co.uk/2016/04/av-8a-cross-sections-and-loft-lines.html) I have the following, any comments on which you think is the best: A.A.P. I've had that Sea Harrier done for ages, and something about it always struck me as off.....but I couldn't tell what. NOW I see I've got the roundels on the nose, not the intakes! ((Picard face-palm royale))

Hello All! I'm jumping in (pun intended) with the Airfix 1/72 Harrier Gr1. I've got the Eduard PE set for it and I'll use as much of that as seems practical, mainly for gussying up the cockpit, using the kit decals. Have the Warpaint book for reference, but I think I'll mainly be using the internets especially the Harrier SIG. My recent record for group builds has been a bit hit and miss so here's hoping I have time to complete this one! -
Hi guys. I'm an ex RAF techie of 25 years standing. Two tours on Harriers, started on Mod 9s, into GR1s and then GR3s as an INAS avionics tech at Wittering (3yrs) and Gutersloh (4yrs). I did do some GR5 introduction into service work as part of the Central Servicing Development Establishment's Flight Systems Specialist Flight. Short tour on Canberras (100 Sqn) followed by a tour on Victor K2s (57 Sqn) including Falklands War (Multiple Black Buck see off crews).
