This is part III in my series on the Gulf of Sidra incident. The short encounter on 19 August 1981 in which two Tomcats shot down two Libyan Fitters. After the E-2C Hawkeye and the Su 17 Fitter I recently finished the Hasegawa kit of the A-7E Corsair II. I fitted the model with a D-704 Buddy Pack by Attack Squadron under the port wing, and two fuel tanks under the starboard wing, as seen on a picture of this particular aircraft from September 1980. The specific markings of the "403" were homemade and the squadron markings were provided by an old decal set from Microscale. Hope you like!

1/48 Tamiya F-14A Tomcat, VF-41. Finished 20/11
DaveJL posted a topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Hello all, Couldn't contain my joy when I arrived home from work to find Tamiya's brand spanking new F-14 sitting waiting for me. I naturally had to get a thread going in preparation for a start this weekend! I'll be marking it as 'Fast Eagle 107,' BuNo 160390, one of the 2 F-14s involved in the 'Gulf of Sidra Incident,' whereby 2 Libyan Su-22s were downed in 1981. The moulding and design looks excellent, particularly the way the wings are built up (you add the swing mechanism then just slide the wings on once you've assembled the fuselage). I know the inability to have everything 'hanging out' on the wings was a bit of a sore point for some, but for me I think it's perfect if you have limited shelf space and plan to build a few. Not much aftermarket just some Steel Beach Tail Stiffeners, decals and I have a set of Quickboost seats on the way. Sorry for the poor pictures, were just taken with the iPhone and the kit thrown on the duvet! Will get some better ones once it's on the bench. Can't wait to get started! Dave -
Hi everyone, This is my entry for the GB, from Hobby Boss in 1/72. Some references....not all relevant to this build but good reads nonetheless. This will be a build of a VF-41 'Black Aces' Tomcat from the Gulf of Sidra incident in 1981. (Source: Wikipedia commons; public domain) It probably won't be the most colourful build on this GB (as she's mostly grey) but an eventful story and one that's worth remembering I think. Good luck with your own builds! Dermot
