  1. Hi everyone. Thought i'd say hi and explain why i'm here. I work from home a lot (even before COVID) and I get to watch/listen to a lot of programs etc whilst working. Recently i'd been watching Adam Savage's Tested on YouTube and watched quite a few of his modelling videos which has given me the itch to try and get in to modelling. I don't know if i'm going to be any good or if i'll even stick with it but I really want to try it. Needless to say I have zero experience. I'm 47 now and I did make a couple of model kits when I was a child but that's about it. So if anyone can suggest some basic equipment like brushes, paints or whatever else, to get me started and maybe good place to get my first model from, it would be appreciated. I'm happy to spend a little money on gear to start with, but until I get the bug I don't want to go all out. In advance, i'd just like to say thank you and appreciate all your help and advice Thanks guys. Dave
  2. Can anyone tell me which of these colours (or a different one?) would be best to achieve the camouflage colours on the Meteor night fighter in the photo? I'm assuming RAF dark green is ok (albeit satin, not gloss, but allowing for scale perhaps that's ok?) Not sure which grey is best. The ghost looks closer but the decal instructions say medium sea grey, yet it looks a bit dark to me.
  3. Joining you with this Airfix 1/72 Mustang. This on cost £5 from Aldi in 2018 - and has the wrong decals. But no worries about that. Huge thanks to Andyf117, who supplied me with decals for PassionWagon A very rare, green P-51D, absent from my collection - until now.
  4. Please does anyone know the best spray can colour to use for 50s and 60s glossy RAF camo? Would Tamiya AS-9 be the right green? Thanks!
  5. Hi all! i need some advice based on your experiences. I have to say that Jens has been helpful but I am still paining over the first coat! i have my Super Sabre nearly ready for a green coat but I am still not sure what colours to use and I'd value your advice, thoughts, experiences. i use Humbrol enamels. I know that in the real world they were painted FS24079. However, almost every photo I've seen, and even my own from my early days, shows a blue-grey tone once the paint has faded. I have lightened Humbrol 116 but it goes a light yellowish-tinted colour. What advice do the collective have? thanks. Martin
  6. Hi all, Here is my just finished GT-R Z Tune. It was a lot of fun to build. The paint is Tamiya Candy Lime Green followed by Zero paints 2K Clear. Hope you like.
  7. After consulting the colour charts (http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/stuff_eng_colorcharts_uk.htm) I bought XF-61 for my dark green and XF-52 for the brown. when I airbrushed the green on it looked far to dark. Almost a Luftwaffe green. The closets I came to seeing such a dark green was on this Spitfire The green on this build seems more realistic http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=52316 Which matches I know screen resolutions and camera settings make a difference but if anyone has got some Tamiya XF-61 around I would be interested if they did a test. My disaster with plasti-kote mean I have had to stip my Spit down so before I respray I would be interested in hearing from others out there. I know colour has been a long raging topic and as many will point out weathering, paint pigment etc played a lot to do with the difereent shades of green. I think the Green was darker post 1941 when the Gray-Green scheme was introduced. This is given as the supposed proper colour? http://www.colorserver.net/showcolor.asp?fs=34079
  8. Hello guys and girls! Just finished what has to be the best model I have every built! Ever so proud of it! Also first time I tried out using Humbrol weathering wash, (First time using a wash at all!) Also first time using Humbrol Clear, and it works a charm! The clever people say that it is basically the same as Johnsons Klear. Anyway, back to the model. It went together ever so nicely, and only took a few days to complete, and that was to my own surprise rather quick compared to what I normally do! But I just could not leave this model! So, this is how it turned out. _DSC0774 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0775 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0776 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0777 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0778 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0779 by Matcham11, on Flickr Robin
