Hi all I have been working on this kit. I have modelled DK438 a Mk1 of 1771 Squadron, HMS Implacable, task force 37.1 Pacific Ocean 1945. The Sqadron carried out strikes over the Japanese Mainland at the end of the war. The Grand Phoenix model is a limited run kit and has some astonishing detailing in the cockpits, undercarriage bays and radiator in the form of resin parts and although it is a limited run kit, goes together quite well. The model was brush painted in Humbrol enamels . I had a bit of Loss of Mojo early on in the build but overall it was an enjoyable build. I also used some aftermarket parts, a less bulbus spinnered prop, wheels cannons from Barracuda and also the rear cockpit glazing was a vacform part, but I couldn't get the windscreen right so used the kit front canopy parts. Anyway enough waffle here's the link to the WIP and some photos. A look through the arched window Some cruelly close Macro shots Thanks for looking in and thanks fofcyhe support along the way. Chris
When people ask me what my favourite Spitfire version is, I usually reply something along the lines of "whichever one I've built a model of most recently". I do have a particular fondness for the late-model Griffon Spits, though, so this GB seems like a good opportunity to bring out my Grand Phoenix "Ultimate Seafire" - which as I'm sure everyone here knows, is a reboxing of the well-regarded Airfix kit with extra resin, etch and decals. I must confess to being slightly apprehensive about doing this one in public, so to speak, especially as it's been a while since I did anything with so much aftermarket gubbins. A couple of shots of box and bits to start with. I was lucky enough to get this kit for a good price on ebay a few years ago. It does look like an awful lot of plastic, resin and metal! I just hope all the bits are there. Oh well, here we go...
Gee this GB came around a bit quicker than I had hoped/planned for! I had a hard time planning what I wanted to build, originally planned a Luftwaffe Sabre or Sabre Dog, Hartmann’s F-86 of JG 71 “Richthofen” does look fantastic!! Hmmmm a later project I think!!! But then I can across the Grand Phoenix FJ-4B Fury, looks cool and plenty of resin, I just had to build it. (I bet no one noticed I had the wrong box photo here!!!) Not sure which scheme yet, the grey one certainly looks interesting....but I have 5 lovely resin Bullpups! I have just about finally finished the Heinkel so will start this one then.......hopefully! Oh I even managed to get a second one for next to nothing due to it missing decals.
