  1. As usual going through the stash and looking at the dearth of AFV proposals so having consulted the web and Wikipedia came up with this. The 88mm flak was actually first put into action in 1918 was updated in 1936, 1937 and 1941 and used as an anti tank gun gun and as the main weapon on several tanks and self propelled guns, so…. The proposal is for any model of 88mm 18/36/37/41 their derivatives ( PAK 43 etc) and any afv that used the same as its main armaments, many multiple halftrack conversions, Tiger I & II, Ferdinand, Elephant, Waffen traeger (38(t) chassis), Jadgpanther and Nashorn in any scale ( and I’m sure I’m missing a few) 1. 2. My part built aquatic panzer 38(t) got me thinking. What about a GB for amphibious machines. The likes of the Sherman DD the DUKW, the Amphicar or any aeroplane that lands on water. My Sablatnig My almost completed amphibious panzer 38(t) So that’s the proposal build in any scale anything that can go on land and or water. I suppose that does include toads, frogs and newts too 1. 3. As it’s been pointed out that there’s a shortage of AFV STGB proposals I thought I’d table this one. So the first proposal is the Panzer VI Tiger I, II and ( really stretching definitions here) Ferdinand and Elefant and any derivatives in any scale, which afaik would be the Sturmtiger and bergetiger and at a pinch the two prototype. 1. me 2. @MARADER 3. @Muchmirth 4. @Stef N. 5. @Trevor L 6. @Corsairfoxfouruncle 7. @Mig Eater 8. @FalkeEins 9. @Retired Bob 10. @stevehnz 11. @Longbow 12. @sardaukar 13. @Jasper dog 14. @ColonelKrypton 15. @Mjwomack 16. @mbthejester 17. @SimonT 18. @Angus Tura 19. @TommyW 20. @Keeff 21. @JOCKNEY
  4. This one didn’t make it over the line last year but having been reminded of it I thought I’d propose it again for 2024. This being my main reason, my 1/144 stash. Some examples So the proposal. Any model in any scale smaller than 1/72. So 1/100, 1/144, 1/200 etc are eligible. I might even get around to that 1/144 zeppelin Stakken uve been threatening to build for years. 1. 6. Fairly straightforward I almost scored a free 1/24 scale Airfix Hurricane and it got me thinking GBs again. Last year my Sopwith and descendants proposal almost made it over the line and seeing how the DeHavilland GB is going already I think this would make a great GB for next year. Sopwith Aviation was founded in 1912 and pretty active prior to WWI going on to produce iconic fighters like the Pup and the Camel. In 1920 they went in to voluntary liquidation. That same year Tom Sopwith and Harry Hawker founded the Hawker aircraft company, having purchased all the Sopwith assets and paid off all the creditors. in 1935 Hawker acquired Gloster who continued to trade under their own name releasing the Gladiator that same year. Then in 1936 they merged with Siddley who also owned Armstrong Withworth and AVRO, to form Hawker Siddley. In 1945 they acquired AVRO Canada. 1952 they acquired the remnants of the Bristol engine company and De Havilland and Folland. Then finally they were incorporated into British Aerospace. As part of the proposal, only post merger aircraft would count, so for example the Gauntlet would not but the Gladiater would. So anything made by Sopwith it’s successor Hawker it it’s acquisitions, Siddely, Gloster. 1.me 2. @Wez 3. @Mr T 4. @franky boy 5. @TEMPESTMK5 6. @theplasticsurgeon 7. @Corsairfoxfouruncle 8. @Andwil 9. @zebra 10. @81-er 11. @Colin W 12. @Beardybloke 13. @JOCKNEY 14. @CliffB 15. @John Masters 16. @Courageous 17. @Roland Pulfrew 18. @Richard Humm 19. @mackem01
  7. On going through my stash I realised that my Sopwith 1 1/2 Strutter is the Comic version, a single seater night fighter conversion. Now I’d also like to finish one of my Camel Kits as the other Sopwith Comic. And so the proposal is for any night fighter custom designed or converted in any scale. 8. Watching a very interesting documentary yesterday on the developments of Kawasaki single seat fighters, so it occurred to me that there aren’t a whole lot of builds on the forums while there are many interesting aircraft. So… The GB proposal would be any single seat fighter in service with the Imperial Japanese Navy or Army Airforce between 1936 (arguably the start of WWII for Japan with the invasion of China) and 1945. No whifs but thatvstill leaves a very wise choice of builds… 1. Me of course. 2. @ColonelKrypton 3. @Corsairfoxfouruncle 4. @Andwil 5. @JOCKNEY 6. @Toryu 7. @Old Man 8. @Erwin
  9. As you may well know I tend to favour the unusual, eclectic or downright odd in my models so I thought why not table a Group build of oddities for 2024. So that’s the basic premise, build something odd in any scale. Some examples.. The He119 The Stipa Caproni The Blackburn Blackburn The Sablatnig triplane. Actually since I started the thread I’ve built the Heinkel, the Caproni and the Sablatnig and I’m a good halfway into the Blackburn. But still plenty of material out there e.g. 1. @Marklo ( me of course ) 2. @Andwil 3. @ColonelKrypton 4. @Toryu 5. @MARADER 6. @CliffB 7. @zebra 8. @Bertie McBoatface 9. @ArnoldAmbrose 10. @81-er 11. @JOCKNEY 12. @Maginot 13. @Jb65rams 14. @flashlight 15. @AdrianMF 16. @Bobby No Mac 17. @Julien 18. @bentwaters81tfw 19. @Adrian Hills 20. @LorenSharp 21. @Richard Humm
  10. Browsing through the kindle store and this caught my eye and got me thinking. So the proposal would be for models of subjects that gained a bad reputation or were actually more dangerous to their operators than their enemies. So I’ll start the list of possibles. 2023s bunfight is pretty full so if this goes through I’d propose we hang on to it for 2024. 1. Royal aircraft BE2 family, nicknamed the Quirk, an inherently stable design that was a sitting duck in combat. 2. F104 star fighter nicknamed the missile with a man, very fast but difficult to fly and easy to crash. 3. Heinkel 177 Grief nicknamed the flying coffin like the Avro manchesters twinned Buzzard engines the Heinkel suffered from engine fires and mechanical reliability and has difficulty staying in the air. 4. Albatross DV the successor to the DIII the lower wing had a tendency to come off during dives and tight manoeuvres, more or less fixed on the DVa by adding a small reinforcing strut. 5. Fokker EV the precursor to the DVIII the type had major issues with the parasol wing failing the issue was fixed but the plane was renamed the DVIII. 6. M4 Sherman nicknamed the Tommy cooker by the Germans and the Ronson by the British; after the ronson lighters marketing line ‘lights up first time every time’. Wet ammunition storage was added to the later models to alleviate the problem. Any non wet storage mark. 7. The Kursk, sank with all hands. 8. Me 163 used hydrazine and hydrogen peroxide fuels that were volatile and or explosive and as a result killed more Germans in fuel related accidents than enemy flight crew. 9. Bachem Ba349 Natter a seriously dangerous vertically launched rocket intercepter managed to kill its pilot on its first and only manned flight. 10. Sopwith Camel the most successful fighter of all time in the right hands, due to the gyroscopic effect of the radial engine a dangerous machine in the wrong ones, many a trainee pilot was lost to the machine. 11. Bolton & Paul Defiant, designed to be a bomber destroyer a fundamentally flawed concept that was so badly mauled in the Battle of Britain it was withdrawn from frontline service. It did find a niche later in the war as a night fighter. 12. Avro Manchester. As part of the spec to be a twin used the RR Buzzard engine which had issues causing it to either just not start or conversely unexpectedly go up in flames. it was developed into the Avro Lancaster. 13. Me328 designed as a cheap Argus powered intercepter/bomber then developed as a suicide bomber, poor handling delayed the production of the aircraft. As the application was primarily to be anti shipping D-day rendered the concept obsolete. 14. Fieseler 105 Richenberg the piloted V1 developed as a stopgap while the issues with Me328 were to be solved. Killed quite a few test pilots but was never used operationally. As I read my book and think of other aviation Turkeys I’ll add to the list. 1. @Marklo 2. @stever219 3. @Mjwomack 4. @helios16v 5. @IanC 6. @vppelt68 7. @theplasticsurgeon 8. @Corsairfoxfouruncle 9. @ArnoldAmbrose 10. @VMA131Marine 11. @Bandsaw Steve 12. @Rob G 13. @Jb65rams 14. @CliffB 15. @Jinxman 16. @drdjp11 17. @bigfoot 18. @Rafwaffe 19. @Colin W 20. @DaddyO 21. @JOCKNEY 22. @Pin 23. @Adam Poultney 24. @DaveyGair 25. @Bertie McBoatface 26. @2996 Victor 27. @zebra 28. @Brad 29. @Angus Tura 30. @Redstaff 31. @Luke1199 32. @Mjwomack 33. @AdrianMF

  12. I know that a biplane is a stretch for a lot of modellers, but the majority of my builds have two or more sets of wings. So the proposal is for anything with two or more sets of wings, any scale, any era. if the GB gets picked I’ll build either of all of these a Fokker V8 five wings An Osprey triplane A Sablatning triplane An Euler Quadruplane A Caproni pensuti triplane A Caproni Ca60, well maybe not… I could keep going as there are literally hundreds of possible builds. 1. me of course 2. @John Masters 3. @Ray S 4. @Corsairfoxfouruncle 5. @JOCKNEY 6. @48-Alone-Is-Great 7. @dnl42 8. @Toryu 9. @Grandboof 10. @Pin 11. @Jinxman 12. @DaddyO 13. @CliffB 14. @Maginot
  13. There was a Helicopter/VSTOL GB in 2020 so next year would be three years and I reckon this would be a fun GB to revisit. Personally it’ll be an excuse to dust off my Hawk Lysander and the sole helicopter in my stash oh and of course a Fieseler Storch if the Reconnaissance GB doesn’t fly (so to speak) So the proposal: anything short or vertical takeoff from catapult launched Sopwith Camels through to F35s ( there’s a version with VTOL capability, isn’t there ?) with anything in between. This one gets in on a technicality.it’s a Sopwith Camel modified to be dropped from an airship. Takeoffs don’t get any shorter than that…. Yes VTOL F35 Any takers? 1. me (of course) 2. @Corsairfoxfouruncle 3. @Mig Eater 4. @ArnoldAmbrose 5. @helios16v 6. @theplasticsurgeon 7. @zebra 8. @Rob S 9. @JOCKNEY 10. @CliffB 11. @desert falcon 12. @Dermo245 13. @Col. 14. @Mr T 15. @Jabba 16. @Tim R-T-C 17. @Evil_Toast_RSA 18. @Hewy 19. @Jb65rams 20. @Bobby No Mac 21. @Arniec 22. @Prenton 23. @Scargsy 24. @Dansk 25. @Andwil 26. @exdraken 27. @DaveJL 28. @arfa1983 29. @John Masters 30. @bianfuxia 31. @Colin W 32. @Hockeyboy76
  14. I thought about this a lot and I'm thinking that 2023brings a lot of significant 80ths the fall of stalingrad, Zitadel, Anzio, the defeat of the Afrika Corp, Gadalcanal (I think), all representing the tide turning against fascism in world war 2. From a historical perspective I'm fascinated by the European war and to a lesser extent the Mediterranean, but for some reason I'm not that interested in the Pacific war. Anyway I digress. The proposal woult be for any German, Soviet or allied equipment used during the Zitadel offensive, that includes a pretty large swath of aircraft, AFVs, lots of scope for dioramas and other equipment. Anyone else intetested? 1. @Marklo 2. @Robert Stuart 3. @Rob S 4. @Ozzy 5. @Tim R-T-C 6. @Prenton 7. @Corsairfoxfouruncle 8. @Longbow 9. @Jasper dog 10. @M3talpig 11. @Beazer 12. @vppelt68 13.
  15. I do enjoy the occasional AFV and haven’t many German tanks in the collection, and so decided I must build a Hetzer. I knew it was derived from the Czech CMK 38 but a little research showed that there many many variants produced. In total about 1400 panzer 38(t)chassis were built and in every conceivable configuration from Bergepanzers through anti aircraft, self propelled guns and of course Jadgpanzers and Marder IIIs ( not I or II) There is also the 38(D) a German variant used for assault guns and antitank weapons. There are also lots of kits including some of the more unusual variants available. Seeing how we don’t seem to have that much Armour STGB proposals for 2022, I thought I’d start one. So the build would be anything built on an LT 35 or 38 chassis or a 36(t), 38(t) or 38(D) chassis or any proposed E-10 vehicle in any scale. I’m really leaning as I go the Swedish Stridsvagn m/41 and the Pansarbandvagn 301 would also qualify as both use licence built 38(t) chassis. 1. @Marklo * 2. @ColonelKrypton * 3. @Stef N. * 4. @Tim R-T-C * 5. @Corsairfoxfouruncle * 6. @Rob S * 7. @Robert Stuart 8. @Mig Eater * 9. @Adam Poultney* 10 @Orso* 11. @fittedkitchens* 12. @sardaukar 13. @f matthews* 14. @PlaStix* 15. @blimp * 16. @sampanzer* 17. @Threadbear* 18. @Jasper dog 19. @Mjwomack * 20. @Jinxman 21. @MARADER * 22. @Maddoxx77* 23. @StuartH 24. @Geo1966 25. @f matthews 26. @IanC* 27. @bigfoot * 27. @Maddoxx77 28. @Ned * denotes members who have reconfirmed or initially said they’d build a 38(t)
  16. A minor brainwave. What about an Aircraft of the Aces GB; any aircraft from any conflict but must be either flown by an ace and/or have more than five kill markings. Personally I have a nice Eduard Albatross, a Couple Camels( well 4 actually), a SPAD and some N17s in the stash that would all do nicely. Now that I think of it I’d also like to add Richthofens Halberstadt DII to the collection. 1. me of course 2. @DaveyGair 3. @TEMPESTMK5 4. @Ted 5. @Corsairfoxfouruncle 6. @Grey Beema 7. @2996 Victor 8. @jackroadkill 9. @MattG 10. @klr 11. @Paul J 12. @Tim R-T-C 13. @vppelt68 14. @JohnT 15. @stevehnz 16. @Andwil 17. @theplasticsurgeon 18. @Tim R-T-C 19. @John Masters 20. @Black Knight 21. @Rafwaffe 22. @trickyrich 23. @Paul J 24. @Steve 1602 25. @CliffB 26. @zegeye 27. @wellzy 28. @Mattp7999 29. @Valkyrie 30. @JosephLalor 31. @Beazer 32. @LorenSharp
  17. Not sure if this is the right place to list an idea for a group build ( if it’s not could I kindly ask the mods to move it to the right place) but here goes. Sopwith Aviation was founded in 1912 and pretty active prior to WWI going on to produce iconic fighters like the Camel. So if you follow the time line through you get a large slice of British aviation with the Sopwith heritage as the linking theme. Starting with Sopwith naval aircraft including the hurricane and on to the Harrier. Actually my only niggle is it may be too broad and maybe Sopwith on its own would be enough for a good GB. Just checked my references and including one offs and prototypes Sopwith on their own comprises about thirty types. On @dnl42a suggestion it might be a good idea to keep it to the main Sopwith/Hawker/Hawker Siddley line otherwise it sort of becomes becomes British aircraft 1912 to 1970 .
