  1. Finished about a year ago, I used BestBalsaKits decals, but painted the orange wing panels. Tyres from Icon Automative Miniatures. There are a lot of detail faults with the kit, but the overall shape looks good. An absolute pig to build properly, never again! Painted using rattlecan Ford Arcadian Blue (a 1966 Mustang colour). No other aftermarket bits, so I didn't need to hand place the hundreds of little washers on the seats. An easier way is to cover the seat face in Bare Metal Foil, paint it matt black and then rub off the raised detail (nothing special, I used my finger). See what you think....
  2. This kit was given to me as a gift from a GT40 fan, who I suspect has many more such models in his stash, so I thought I’d give it a bash and see how it’d turn out. Please bear in mind this is my first ever completed car kit as I never had an interest in vehicles as a young modeller, much preferring axis aircraft. Anyway, I found a few problems with the kit which caused a headache or two, but I eventually sorted myself out and learned that compromising was going to be the only way forward. Incidentally, I missed out an important process in the instructions which I didn’t spot until near the end of the build, but I’ll put that down to experience, not being senile! Can you spot the mistake? For some reason the rear body shell was slightly skewed, the number and spot decals were much too large (I made my own smaller spot for the front, and luckily for me the prototype didn’t have a number on it), the rear wheels bind on the wheel arches and none of the clear light covers fitted very well. However, I think the finished model definitely has the ‘look’ of a GT40 and I learned so much from the building and painting of this model that I’ll definitely be trying more in the future. As an aside, I also have the Tamiya Porsche GT1 as a WIP which was going to be my first car, but somehow this one jumped the queue, don’t ask! Please feel free to give any comments because I know it’s far from perfect, but as a first project I’m not too disappointed.
  3. Built almost box stock, tyres by Icon Miniatures, and decals from Best Balsa Kits. This took a lot of willpower to finish, rather than hiding it in the bottom of the cupboard.
  4. I have this to go with my Chris Amon/Bruce McLaren version. I have the Denny Hulme Ken Miles in the box ready to go. I will put them all up in their famous finishing pose when all is done. In the meantime, here is the Gurney/Grant one finished. I
  5. OK, time to consult Britmodellers massive throbbing brain once more. So... this is concerning Gulf blue Zero Paint, 2k and decals on my GT40 MK11. Is it best to: 1. Apply the decals straight onto the Zero paint and then 2k. 2. Apply a coat/s of 2k over the paint, decal and then fully 2K. ( and if so what's the best method for this? ) 3. non of the above, you're missing the obvious you stupid numpty. 4. Phone a friend. All answers on a postcard to... I kid. So yeah, can anyone help me with my dilemma? Thanks in advance.
