Prelude to Black Friday - 9th February 1945 Not showing the clash between allied and axis forces directly. My image is showing the first units of JG5 from Herdla entering the scene of Fördesfjord, western Norway, where the Black Friday clash took place on february 9th 1945 as RAF Dallachy Beaufighters is attacking the german destroyer Z33 and suporting vessels in the area. The Fw190A-8 Blue 4 was piloted by Rudi Linz, a 69 kills ace, whom also was killed that day. Shot down by an escorting 65 Sqn Mustang. 10 allied and 5 german planes were shot down. 18 allied and 2 german airmen

I did pretty well for Christmas (we modellers are easy to buy gifts for!) and had two lovely looking 1/72 Eduard models waiting under the tree! Having just about finished an old Lanc I decided to take on the FW190 A-5 first to "cleanse my pallet" and get something made relatively quickly. The kit comes with photo etch and masks for the canopy so I'll be building it straight out of the box. I'm still pondering which scheme to go for and will save that decision until she's closed up and wings are on. Progress so far is to get the cockpit together. I sprayed

Hi Guys, I just finished my Hasegawa 1/48 Fw190 A4, with the markings belonging to Hannes Trautloft, Kommodore JG54, Russia, at the beginning of 1943. It was built in parallel with an old-tooled Eduard Fw190A5, which is still in progress at this time. Anyway, I'm happy that I finished one of them and I hope you will like it. The entire build log is here, if you are interested to see it. Thanks for looking and cheers,

Here is a 1:48 scale Fw190 A9 that I finished quite a while ago but never posted here. It’s the old Dragon kit re-boxed by Revell. I have a few of these in the stash but had never actually built one before. Kit had the extra broad propellers and the cooling fan with extra blades as well as the A9 hood. Despite its reputation the kit went together well only the finicky fit of the nose/wings (6 parts coming together) being a bit of a challenge. Finished in the brown rather than green RLM 81 just for the pure hell of it.

This is at the moment merely a placeholder for a pile o' kits what have been languishing untouched for around a decade. I will get to these once I have finished with the accursèd Pavla Seafire, rot its socks. Kits include: Hasegawa 1/72 FW 190 A-7 'Oesau' w/Eduard etch - almost complete; Tamiya 1/48 FW 190 A-3 'OOB' - almost complete but the dihedral is crook so it needs to be pulled apart...; Hasegawa 1/32 Me 163 - early stages but with Milliput filler in cockpit to fill in the gaping pressure-releasing holes; Airfix 1/24 FW 190 A-5

Being at least partly responsible for creating what is now an 18-month old little chap, part of my fatherly remit obviously encompasses the finer points of aircraft identification. The trio below are all from the defunct Airfix 'Mini Kits' series of 1/100 unassembled, but pre-painted kits. I'm happy to report that 'Spitfire' is already a (very repetitive at the moment) part of his vocabulary. Exactly what to teach him as regards the FW is currently a matter of debate. cheers, Jason
