  1. I thought I'd better get started as I will be attempting to complete 2 models in the course of this GB and only tectonic plates move more slowly than my production line. I will be making another one of my beloved RAF Leuchars aircraft in the form of the Fujimi FG1 'Treble 1' edition with the actual markings still to be decided and I will also be trying something new to me in the form of the Revell F-4F (which will also be my contribution to a GB that the Aberdeen Modellers Society are currently running). The F-4F kit has some fancy markings for an aircraft wearing 40 year anniversary markings and is in a fetching red and black scheme. Unfortunately Photobucket is playing hard to get for me at the moment so the box top, sprue shots and construction photos will have to wait but trust me I am actually starting from scratch. I started painting the interiors last night and was surprised to see the difference in size of the cockpit consoles from each kit. The usual injection pin holes were filled with superglue on the Fujimi kit but this particular kit does not seem to have suffered as badly from sink marks as the last Fujimi Phantom that I built (I did have a look through my Fujimi stash during the build of my last one and noticed that the sink marks were quite randomly distributed through the various kits, date of issue didn't seem to come into it). The Revell kit has some sink marks on the stabilators and outer wing panels but the rest of the kit seems ok, talking of the outer wings and stabs is it my imagination or are the Revell parts smaller than the Fujimi ones, I'll have to compare them against each other? I'm looking forward to seeing how the Revell kit goes together, at least it'll take my mind off the Fujimi build which I find tedious for some reason! I think it's the intake joints and forward undercarriage bay fit that I find a chore to deal with on that kit (and also having to extend the missing panel lines on the heat shields too). Hopefully Photobucket will play nicely and I can start posting photos soon. Duncan B
  2. Hi chaps, I thought I'd show some recent finishes completed for a Spitfire-related GB on another forum. All were hand-brushed with Xtracrylix paint, over a coat of Halford's primer and finished with Games Workshop "Purity Seal" satin varnish. Firstly, the 1/72nd Hasegawa Mk VIII, finished as a machine from 457 Sqn RAAF in 1945. Decals from Almark, I think: Then we move onto the Fujimi Spit XIVe low back in the markings of 41 Sqn RAF, again in 1945. Decals from Freightdog: Finally, we have the Sword Spit IXe, finished as a "fighter bomber" from 66Sqn in late 1944. The underwing bombs are from the kit, the centre line bomb and bomb carrier is from an Airfix Hampden, with the bomb rack assembly being scratchbuilt. Decals were partly from the kit, but codes / serials were sourced from Modeldecal and Ventura sheets respectively: And the inevitable group shot: Comments welcome. regards, Martin
  3. Hello here is my entry, well the box top anyway! New 1/72 Project by The 3rd Placer, on Flickr I'll be using Xtradecals X003-72 and some Verlinden seats in the build. Truth be told I started this kit about a week ago before I saw the Group Build, I think it's it's well under 25% started though. I'll post some shots later as she sits now showing the progress and hope the limited work that has been done is acceptable. Just looking for a clean build, and some fun. Ryan
  4. Hi again Folks, I've just finished this fairly ancient Fujimi 1/48 Spit V which as usual I picked up for a song on fleabay. A bit crude to say the least....you get get a radio hatch on each side !!!! no cockpit detail to speak of(canopy doesn't open anyway) but I pit some airwaves harnesses in anyway, my first time with photo-etch. The IFF aerials forced me to butcher the elevators a little, but on the whole I enjoyed the build, next time though I'll try the newer airfix offerings or maybe eduard. The paints are Vallejo Model air which I love, sometimes you have to mix your own colours though, which is easy with their dropper bottles: Green...012 Dark Earth........Dk Earth 029/white 001, 3 to 1 Sky.......... US light grey 045/white001, 1 to 1 Feel free to comment PS This is Wing Cdr Kent's personal ride, hence his initials as codes.
  5. Hey everyone, While this isn't really 'armour', I couldn't think of where else to post it. So Mods, please feel free to move! This is the little 1/72 Fujimi Deck Tractor from their Flight Deck Crew set 35001. Built out of box but turned the front wheels to make it look a bit more interesting. Will probably add the driver at a later stage and maybe some scale chains if I can find them (anyone know where?) Gotta hate the macro setting on the camera - just spotted nasty seams on the wheel chock! The WIP build log is here and thanks for looking!
  6. Here is my 2nd entry. I felt I had to thin out my Fujimi stash that has grown a bit too much. This is a too big stash The prices were better them. The oldest price tag showed £5.95 Double choice kit from Fujimi The decals come from AirDOC and my choice is one of the two schemes from Zweibrücken. I just have to check if I have the parts for the AN/ARN101
  7. Dear Readers, In preparation for my Cold War ASW 212 build, I have been looking for the inside cabine pictures/drawings of this helicopter. Especially the seating and equipment arrangement that would have been installed on anti-submarine missions Have found absolutely nothing. Is there anybody around who has some detailed information regarding this "Secret" anti-submarine helicopter from the Peruvian/Italian/Greece/Turkey's Navy. Any info is welcomed. Highest Regards, Dirk
  8. BASE FLIGHT NAVAL AIR STATION "WHIDBY ISLAND" WASHINGTON STATE INSIDE THE NUMBER 3 " EXTRA LONG FUEL RANGE TANK. ORION.
  9. Not sure if this is the correct place to put this but here goes, (apologies if not) I've just grabbed myself Fujimi's Zuikaku in 1/350th scale, I'm just wondering if there's a company who produces a full set of P.E for this vessel (apart from Fujimi, themselves that is). Or is it a case of having to buy individual P.E sets? Thanks in advance 😃
  10. Hello, This morning I took a look through my spares box and found a few Tamiya centre and rear section canopies. It dawned on me that I had a short shot in another spitfire kit and compared them to see if I could make a swap. The Tamiya Mk. Vb rear most section was very skinny in comparison to the Hasegawa Mk. IX. I took out a few more kits and discovered the Fujimi Mk. XIV and the Sword PR. IV were very different as well. Was there a large change in the size of the windscreen, hood, or rear (backlight?) sections between Marks? Taking out of consideration armoured/unarmoured and PR style windscreens. The Fujimi seemed monstrous, yet came from a later Mark. And I won't mention the Academy... Which canopy should be considered "The Best" ? Thank you for looking in.
  11. Hi all, I've posted these models before, however, the good weather gave me an opportunity to take some much better photos. All 1/72, all Fujimi Spitfire XIV Thanks for looking, Ben
  12. Focke-Wulf Fw190D-9 In the second picture you'll see "RAM" those are my dad's initials. In the third picture near the tail section of the aircraft is my signature sign. The funny thing is that it took me painting coats after coat on that aircraft until I got it just right.
  13. Hi all, Been a while since I built my last Spitfire XIV MV260 EB-P, I spent a lot of time and money on extras for that model as it was the main piece in a diorama last XIV I would build in a while due to exams and going to uni. After building it in February I imposed an abstinence on building any more Spitfires (XIV in particular), which didn't last all too long, as I built an XIX and a V. Anyway, after 9 months I finally cracked and got myself another Fujimi XIV to be done up in this guise; Recently, I have gained a soft spot for Austin's and Morris's from the late 30's/early 40's - Part of my grand vision of owning an Auster or (even better) a Tiger Moth and being able to roll to the airfield in a 30's/40's classic. Why am I telling you this, I hear you ask... Well, I was at the LMS and saw this, I couldn't resist! Please don't remind me of the price. More to follow! Ben
  14. Finished but for the stores last night. I'm sorry to say I don't think this accurately captures the look of the real thing either before or after her preservation, but I've never been able to manage that curious faded look so many Phantoms get about the fuselage. The kit was painted with Gunze Aqueous and Xtracrylics for the main scheme, with Tamiya gloss black for the tail and Tamiya white for the gear bays. Aclad was used on the metal areas. Xtradecals, part of a Revell Tornado sheet, and the Airdoc RAF Phantoms in Germany stencils were used and in some cases adapted. As always, it was a joy to build; Fujimi Phantoms are among my favorite models to work on -- if building them could accurately be called work. I'm almost sorry to post this following a rash of great Phantom builds.
  15. Hello Shipmates Here is the Fujimi 1/700 IJN battleship Hiei with Fujimi PE set and Veteran Models turret set. I imagine it at a warm anchorage somewhere off the coast of China perhaps? Originally a battlecruiser based on the Royal Navy Lion/Tiger class. Probably these Kongo class ships were the most useful and used heavy units in the IJN. The Hiei was named after a mountain near Kyoto (which I have visited) and sunk at Guadalcanal in 1942. Been at it on and off since 2011! Andrew
  16. Ok well my obsession with Phantoms continues and in particular I love building the Fujimi kits as they are superb. Indeed this is my fourth Fujimi Phantom this year and I only have one left in my stash! Its a shame we haven't seen more of them since Amerang became the main importers of Fujimi kits - in fact if anything there seems less of them about now than earlier this year! So this kit is out of the box with the exception of the decals which are the excellent Model Alliance RAF Germany part 1. I used Gunze Mr Color for the paints and various Alclads for the engines and pods and of course Matte varnish to finish it off. I think it is one of my favourite builds of the year. So now I need to finish of my Hasegawa 1:48 Phantom - Fleet Air Arm! Any comments welcome Chris
  17. Hi! I almost only build props, US and British fighters from WW2 but felt I needed to expand it a bit.. After a nice evening drinking coffee and beer, surfing the web reading reviews and looking at sweet pictures I ended up buying a Phantom FG. 1 from Fujimi, this boxing: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234956719-british-phantom-fg1-172-fujimi/?hl=phantom Beautiful box-art by the way! My questions are, since I am quite a jet-noob, where to start learning about the subject? Any particular sites about British Phantoms that are good? Books? ANything I should know about the kit? I saw that Hannants stock some resin engines - are they worth it? And what do I actually have here - what can I build this one as and what cannot not do to it - which British variants servicing where etc? (Gonna read the wiki-article again as well.) It was quite some time since I felt this happy about a new model, opening up a whole new world with jets and these British Phantoms both extremely nice and the whole subject of *improving* the F-4 with new engines etc. seems interesting to read about. Love the colour-schemes as well.. Are there other nice boxings of British Phantoms? Any scale.. Edit: Oh yeah - I saw the Pinned thread as well now...
  18. I'm going totally crazy. Since I planned to try out Alclad anyway (when I can spare the dosh for it), I decided to start an assembly line for all my NMF birds in Korean colours. This one is an F-86F-30-NA Sabre, formerly 52-4333, and brought into service by 2 Squadron SAAF as 361/N "Glow Worm". Go figure, it has a slatted wing, and apparently no 1/72 F-86F kit has the slatted wing, just the later 6-3 or 6-3 slatted wing. Fortunately, I found this handy guide to Sabres, so hopefully I'm up for the challenge of reducing wing chord (what the hell is chord?) and scribing in slats. I'm sure that will look amazing with an alclad finish. Oh, and I have to hope the Fujimi yellow ID bands work better than every other Fujimi decal I've ever had to use. Into ze bath: Despite the passage in 1951 of the charming Prohibition of Mixed Marriages Act in South Africa, I'm intermingling props and jets in this bath! EAT IT, D F MALAN!
  19. Fujimi Ferrari F2003-GA This was brought by the swmbo for last xmas and im in limbo with a few other projects at the moment so its a good time to start something new heres the box its nothing exciting but im in the habbit of this now And all the goodies i aquired for it since its going to go quite slow as i need to finish my senna build and the f138 build first but i will get bits done on this in the breaks also i have 3 weeks off from work now and the kids go back next week so ill have a couple of weeks to really crack on soon
  20. I will be building the Fujimi E-2C hawkeye. this is an older version of the kit, and that means quite simple landing gear and one piece propellers box and kit: Sprues: Loose parts: I was allowed to use a vacform canopy as the original had an air bubble in it. Decals. This is a special bye bye Midway box hence the larger sheet, sadly most options are for E-2B and will require some conversion AFAIK: Cant wait to get started
  21. Ferrari F138 2013 Fujimi 1/20 This is something that was brought for me by my lovely wife for my birthday earlier this month, I have a thing for any Ferrari F1 so this is right up my steet and as i dont do one that often i thought i would do a full wip on this so here goes. This is a really well thought out kit, maybe a little fiddly in places, but overall good. The main body is moulded in a very shiny piece of red plastic but its all going to get a once over with wet and dry so doesnt bother me The decals are good, i've never had a problem with fujimi decals before so lets hope that streak continues One of the good things also is that they come with a kind of do it yourself markings of white decal or it give you the option to do the white marking entirly yourself as it comes with just the sponsor decal also (if you understand wht i mean then we are messed up together) it also comes with a steering wheel decal The wheels dont look great but if the airbrush i just aquired works out to be as good as people say then i will redo them with some more realistic paint As you can see i have already made a start by sticking the radiator ducts on the side of the body, i really dont understand why they make these cars like this, also i stuck on the rollover hoop I also started the nose cone, like with the body it came in 4 or 5 different parts that left a nasty seem line running all around the edge, it was filled with super glue and sanded back, just need to go over it with a finer grade to smooth it off before painting Heres a dry fit of the body parts, it comes with 5 pieces and also the side pods are rather annoying to get around the bottom of the radiator ducts but when you get it rite it all clicks in to place I am really looking forward to this car as it is going to be done so that the engine cover is removable and there maybe a small amount of engine detail done but it will be hard due to the fact that there is not really any good photos for the previous seasons f1 cars engines about out there i should get around to priming most parts over the weekend then hopfully get some colour on it next week im going to use tamiya ts 85 which is a mica red colour as looking at this car and the f2012 this one is a bit darker and very close to there 2009 car and ts85 was make for the tamiya f60 (2009) so its a good place to start Thanks for looking and any comments/critisism/advice are welcome cheers Shaun
  22. Continuing in my Royal Australian Navy Fleet Air Arm theme, here's the latest progress on my A4-G Skyhawk. It's the Fujimi kit in 1/72 scale. I nearly didn't get this far as I was having a lot of doubt about my being able to do the camouflage. Some very helpful advice from fellow member Mumbles (Thank you Sam), who built the same scheme late last year, gave me the confidence to try out the blue tac sausages and tape method. In fact I used UHU white tac. I masked it free hand using an enlarged printout of the scheme as reference. Now if I did this again (and no doubt I will as I have a 1/48 TA-4G on the bench now) I'd keep the underside clean until after painting - no pylons, no undercarriage doors, etc. And here's the result! The greys are Gunze H61 IJN Grey (lighter) and H317 Grey. Lots more to do now but I'm now on the home stretch.
  23. Well this build represented a number of 'firsts' for me - the first 1:72 I have made since the early 1980's, the first Phantom ever in this scale and the first time I have used Mr Color paints! Having got back in to the hobby tow years ago I have been enjoying myself making 1:48 jets and 1:32 WW2 props but of course I am running out of space. I decided to have a go at 1:72 thinking I wouldn't enjoy it but oh how wrong I was! I have to say it was a great kit to build and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This was an OOB build and I had no real issues at all. The Gunze paint was excellent and I am now a firm fan. However the EDSG is a little too dark I think and I have ordered some Xtracolor EDSG as a number of people have said this is more accurate. Alclad around the exhaust area and the white is Alclad white primer. I pre-shaded with Tamiya XF54 and the EDSG was lightened very slightly to give some weathering/tonal difference but it is difficult to see in the photos. Anyway I love this kit and I have 'Yellow Bird' lined up next with a US Navy F4 behind it. I'm back in to 1:72! Cheers Chris
  24. Hi all, Been wanting to do this a while... Got hold of the Fujimi XIX to convert to a low back XIV with resin kits and all. Thanks to Steven for the low back spine " rel="nofollow" target="_blank">http://s1282.photobucket.com/user/Ben2BS/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20140127_214806_zpstifsgjfs.jpg.html][/url] This isn't going to be easy as its the first time I've ever built a model with so much resin. The engine will be the hard part... The upgrades I have are; Armycast Engine and cockpit set, Squadron clear canopy and the Master E Wing armament. Ben
  25. Hi all, First things first. I am dreadful at doing a full WIP, this is the second time in a week that I've posted the tail end to a build (sorry) Very keen to show off my new Spitfire. Built to stand alone as well as be in a diorama of Kastrup airbase (Copenhagen) with the captured FW190 I just made! Belts are painted Tamiya tape with PE harness locking things glued on the end So far the vac form canopy has been cut open and painted in HU78 as a base layer and interior framing. Not yet glued on. Here are the adversaries that make unlikely acquaintances The Spit will be weathered with ink then pastel before getting a matt varnish. After that, the lid will be painted and glued on, then all I have to worry about is making a diorama, however I have a 1/72 hangar in the post... Ben.
