Recently finished after a very long time on the shelf of doom. This one caused me a few problems and after a nasty incident with some defective paint, lingered without being finished for quite a while. I decided I would try to get it finished off today to make room for something else. The downside to the Fujimi Phantom is the complete lack of detail in the intakes but now that the Airfix kit is out, British Phantom lovers are well catered for. Other than the paint disaster, the kit was generally pretty good and fitted together quite well. I had some issues with the cockpit (my aftermarket bang seats were too big and needed a lot of fettling) and this ultimately led to the canopy not fitting perfectly as some of the more observant of you may notice! The only other issue I had was the lack of sidewinder pylons as these aren't supplied in this boxing unfortunately. Maybe I'll get round to scratch buiding some eventually but I doubt it! Dear Colleagues After 3 years work off and on I finally finished the beast. You are looking at the 1/700 Fujimi kit of Kaga from late 1941 with Fujimi’s own PE and wood planking extra. Then it is dressed with Veteran models 12.7 cm AA guns, Lion Roar 25 mm AA guns, davits, Nanodread life boats and searchlights, Rainbow launches (I could go on). The sponson supports are largely scratch built. I am particularly proud of the Zeros waiting to take off. Rather than use decals these were spray painted using my own home-made masks. She was originally designed to be a battleship but following the limits of the Washington Treaty was converted to an aircraft carrier in 1933 initially with 2 flying off decks but this was then changed to having two enclosed hanger decks in 1935. In line with the doctrine of the time she retained a battery of 8" guns for self defence. With Akagi she formed the 1st Carrier Division which struck at Pearl Harbour. She was sunk at Midway in 1942. Gonna have a bash at the only 1/72nd Phantom I have in the stash. Going to need some surgery on the tail fin as it has the RWR moulding but hopefully should manage. Being an FG.1 it has slotted tail-planes, not sure if this is correct, hard to tell in photo's of the actual aircraft, but don't have a choice in the kit, and I'm not all that bothered! A first for me, going to be 'in-flight, so have purchased some PJ Productions crew, and some better looking Eduard Sidewinders, I believe these are externally the same as the 9G carried by RAF aircraft of the period? Someone will correct me I'm sure! Had the all clear by Col. for the markings being used, would probably be correct for the previous year when the squadron formed up 🙄.

By no means one of my better builds. TBH after three superb Tamiya kits on the run this Fujimi kit was always going to present less 'builder appeal'. Don't get me wrong the 'car' is nice I really like it, the kit isn't and those terrible 13" wheels look like castors on an oversized couch !! - No matter he she is in glorious Tamiya TS-22 'Light Green'. Please feel free to make any comment, ask a question or hurl abuse. Back to the NASCAR Lumina build now. Ian.

Alongside the NASCAR Lumina, I'm 'tinkering' with this wee Honda aswell. Not a great kit, some of the details aren't quite as defined as you would expect, but the body-shell looks pretty good to my 55yo eyes. All the insides are undercoated in Rustoleum dark grey primer, you'll see more of that soon. The body is wearing a coat of Tamiya grey primer with two coats of Tamiya TS-22 light green which I've polished with 'CRC Paint Doctor' which isn't a polish, but a scratch & scuff removing cream. Fujimi ‘1967 Targa Florio’ Ford France GT40

This kit was given to me as a gift from a GT40 fan, who I suspect has many more such models in his stash, so I thought I’d give it a bash and see how it’d turn out. Please bear in mind this is my first ever completed car kit as I never had an interest in vehicles as a young modeller, much preferring axis aircraft. Anyway, I found a few problems with the kit which caused a headache or two, but I eventually sorted myself out and learned that compromising was going to be the only way forward. Incidentally, I missed out an important process in the instructions which I didn’t spot until near the end of the build, but I’ll put that down to experience, not being senile! Can you spot the mistake? For some reason the rear body shell was slightly skewed, the number and spot decals were much too large (I made my own smaller spot for the front, and luckily for me the prototype didn’t have a number on it), the rear wheels bind on the wheel arches and none of the clear light covers fitted very well. However, I think the finished model definitely has the ‘look’ of a GT40 and I learned so much from the building and painting of this model that I’ll definitely be trying more in the future. As an aside, I also have the Tamiya Porsche GT1 as a WIP which was going to be my first car, but somehow this one jumped the queue, don’t ask! Please feel free to give any comments because I know it’s far from perfect, but as a first project I’m not too disappointed.- 11 replies

More specifically: if the objective is to have ‘one and only’ and the most accurate Ju 87B-2/R-2 in 1/72, and one already has Fujimi kit with all related after-market stuff for interior and exterior, would there still be a reason to replace it with the new Airfix kit? The main (if not only) criteria is accuracy/shape. The B-1 version (from which only Airfix is reported to be correct) is NOT of interest. TIA for any input. -

Hello fellow modellers, This is my Suisei "Judy" from Dai 541 Kaigun Kokutai in 1944. The kit is the old Fujimi 1/72 offering that came together pretty straigth forward, soft recesed panels and at bargain price, i really enjoyed this kit. The cockpit interiors where full done from scratch because the interiors where non existent, but the open option was not available, completes that beautiful adventure of masking that is the canopy nontheless. The model was fully riveted. I used vallejo acrylics, chipping agent, washes and aqcua pencils. The hinomarus are masked painted, and the id was self made with transparent decal paper and a little touch up with brush to match an example from the book "Imperial japanese Navy Airforce" part 2 from Eduardo Cea (Spain), a really great book with hundreds of color profiles. Highly recommended for those IJN enthusiasts. Cheers! -

Hi, bought this Fujimi 1:72 Phantom FG1 a while back off ebay and thought id give it a bash! Finished as XT865/U of 111 Squadron, RAF Leuchars, mid-80s, in "triple Air Defence grey". Really good kit, and i love the rubber tyres A bit of license used with the decals as i thought i had a larger 111 tail emblem lurking around somewhere but i cant find it so had to use the smaller one from the kit. Built OOB, hand painted, and then weathered to make it look like a standard filthy machine nearing the en of its RAF life! Hello everybody! I know here at BM we are not really specialized on helicopters, less so early ones but I give it a try, maybe somebody here can help! Got myself Fujimi AH-1G in 1/48that I want to build as a Spanish Navy example. I know already that the kit is not the very best kit in the world, but seems to be the only G model available at all. I also have a Cobra Company cockpit for a J model that I plan to use. Any tips and tricks on what to do best? will the cockpit fit and be a reasonable representation? I know already that the model came in at least 2 versions, one with the tail rotor to port side, and the other starboard. of course I have to change sides with this model.... thanks a lot, Werner

Two Axis Tin Cans - IJN Shigure and DKM Z-21

Hi everyone, here are two recent(ish) completions! Here we have the Shigure, built utilising the other half of Fujimi's two-in-one kit I used to build the Yudachi model I completed back in 2015. Built almost OOB, the only additions are the single 25mm AA guns which were sourced from Skywave weapon sets. Painted in Humbrol and Colourcoats enamels. Next, we have the Z-21 Wilheim Heidkamp built using the Trumpeter kit, also in 1/700. The model depicts the ship at the time of it's loss at 1st Narvik. Again primarily OOB, the only alteration being the representation of the lockers behind the bridge supports, boat chocks for the motor launches and the short bulwark ahead of the aft set of boats. This time the model was painted primarily in Colourcoats enamels with Humbrol for the black, brown, red, yellow and the silver funnel caps. The recognition markings were done using 1/144 scale aircraft swastika's from Mark 1 Decals: LINK. The two side by side: Comments welcome! Mike. -
I recently got a Fujimi 1:72nd Phantom FG.1 kit in an attempt to re-ignite my modelling passion from some years ago. Since it arrived, an impending house move has come into play, so it's likely going to stay into the box until the new year now :-( However, doesn't mean I can't make plans. I was wondering if I should invest in any of the after market detailing kits that appear to be available for the likes of cockpits, exteriors, ejection seats etc. I really want this kit to be as good as I can make it, and seeing the quality of the builds on here had inspired me. However, I have to be realistic - I have not done any modelling for 20 odd years so I ain't going to be winning any prizes. Are any of the kits, such as the QMT exterior detailing kit, worth getting hold of? What exactly does that kit get me? It's hard to tell just by looking at it.. Thanks, Al.

Hi everyone! This is my latest completion for 2015, Fujimi's 1/700 model of the Japanese transport Sado Maru! It depicts the ship in the 1941-42 period after she was requisitioned and converted into an Auxiliary Anti-Aircraft Transport, or Boku Kikansen, for the Imperial Japanese Army. She participated in the invasion of Malaya, then the Dutch East Indies and was finally sunk off the Shortland Islands (part of the Solomons) in late November 1942. Her Tabular Record of Movement from the combinedfleet.com website: LINK. A model of her built by the Japanese modeller Motoyuki Iwashige, using the Skywave Kamikawa Maru kit as a basis: LINK. The basic kit as provided by Fujimi has a few issues. First, the hull is too low and has have about 2.5mm added onto the bottom. The shape of the stern is also a bit suspect, but without proper references I left that alone. The main deck has planking detail, which is incorrect as the real ship had a steel deck without planking, again I didn't correct it. Another detail that's lacking is the stanchions either side of the superstructure, so they have to be added. Similarly I've added some detail to the various structures on the deck, which were latrines for the troops! Finally, Fujimi don't provide enough winches for the various cargo booms, so I had to nab two from their kit of the Seaplane Tender Sagara Maru in order to have the correct number. Now for the photo! Hi everyone! Here's my latest completion, the Japanese destroyer Yudachi built using one half of Fujimi's Shigure/Samidare twin boxing. Mainly OOB, the only change being the substitution of two single 40mm pom poms for the 25mm on the AA platform ahead of the number two funnel. As is normal for my IJN builds, no photoetch was used. The ship's TROM from combinedfleet.com is HERE. This was one of the ships that Dr Robert Ballard discovered during his expedition to Ironbottom Sound in 1992. The stern aft of the number two torpedo mount was missing, the bridge structure had collapsed to port and the roof of the wheelhouse had corroded away, exposing the bridge fittings. Here she is alongside the Fujimi Sado Maru kit I built earlier in the year: All in all, a very nice little kit which went together without too much fuss. The only area I needed to use filler was to eliminate sink marks on either side of the mount for the bridge gun director. Comments welcome! Mike.

Hi all, This is a model I finished last year. I was taking photos of a recently completed model, and thought I may as well photograph this one too. It also serves as a test of using Flickr rather than Photobucket. The kit is the Fujimi 1/72 Nakajima Ki43-I Hayabusa (allied codename, Oscar). Maybe the only early mark Oscar out there in 1/72? The pilot is a PJ Productions resin figure (Japanese WWII). The markings are from the kit, and represent the aircraft of Maj. Tateo Kato in Burma, Spring 1942. (these were the only option supplied, although different boxings of the same kit have various markings). I tried the “salt” technique to get the very heavy weathering effect. I am happy enough with the technique, but it might be better for 1/48 and 1/32 rather than 1/72. Or maybe I should get some finer salt... I am not so happy with the green colour, but it’s what I had at the time. The NMF is Model Masters acrylic silver, which was pretty good. Weathering was achieved with oil washes, and a small amount of oil pastels. Anyway, here are some images. Comments and constructive criticism welcome. Thanks for looking! David- 12 replies

Hi all, A quick snap of my latest, although sadly not a great photo as I took it with my phone in the excitement of completion! She is one of a batch delivered from McClellan AFB to Venezuela prior to the 1958 revolution, hence the older style roundels. She is a Fujimi kit with some added resin. The decals were partly home made, partly robbed from a F-47 and partly reprinted from a dreadful Aztec set I had acquired that I was fleeced on! . I painted the tail stripes and added 1mm white stars individually. A few mistakes, particularly the positioning on the red rear fuselage line, but it was a too late when realised. OK, so for my next build I've decided to build the MFH 917K 1/24th Ver B in the JW Automotive Gulf colours ( yes I'm doing the Gulf Colours! ) This is my first MFH kit too so I'm kinda excited and a little nervy as I have no idea what's ahead. Another learning curve I guess. Also haven't decided whether to build the No.19, 71 Sarth 24 hours or the No.1 Monza 1000Km version yet. I'm leaning towards the Monza car at the moment. But anyway, the kit arrived this afternoon. And very nice it is too. Santa came early in my house. So basically I now have to start sorting though this lot. Unfortunately, and annoyingly, it's all gone back in the box as the kit is completely missing the PE parts and the bulkhead section. Not a good start really. I've contacted the supplier and I'm waiting for an answer on that. Anyway.... To mix it up a bit. I also have the Fujimi 22 Martini 1971 Le Mans winning 917K. Which I intend to build in tandem with the MFH kit using the MFH as reference to see what kind of standard I can detail the Fujimi. Whether I can get it anywhere near the MFH kit only time will tell I guess. On order for the Fujimi are PE parts, upgraded brakes and the Historic Racing Miniatures HRM-303 engine and bulkhead transkit. I'll be scratch-building everything else; including the frame. I'm also thinking about moderately weathering both kits for a bit of race authenticity. So there you have it really, bit off way more than I can chew again. What could possibly go wrong? Fujimi's 1/70th (close enough, eh?) HH-2D Sea Sprite. A nice kit, but it does suffer from some serious flaws. I started building it as a companion for my YSH-2E, then there was an accident in the paint-shop, so it got whiffed.....

This was quite a nice model to build. If you don't know me already, I usually paint my models only one color. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but in this case I think it did. I hope you enjoy. Custom mixed paint and brush painted: The frame was painted without any masking: Gears were a little too greyish. I know some of you might be drooling to weather this one, jajaja. -
Perhaps two is not enough to make a clutch, but it's what I've got. I've stalled out on my Jaguar build for now, and feel the small-scale bug biting again, so I conjured up some phantoms (all one needs is goat's blood, backwards chanting, and some baking soda). I have a Hasegawa F-4C and a Fujimi FGR.2 I've also got two sets of Truedetails rocket chairs, and have placed an order for two sets of Airwaves Phantom canopy details. The plan is to build the FGR.2 as a 92 squadron's XV414 based at Wildenrath, Germany in 1979. For this I'll be using decals in the box, along with some spare 4s from a second Fujimi sheet I found laying around. While I have the Lotus 88 proceeding slowly in the background I have decided to try and get a quick build out of the way, so inspired by @Borez and @shood23 I'm going to build another Fujimi 917K, this one is Helmut Marko (yes, that Helmut Marko) and Gijs van Lennep's Martini Le Mans winner. This will be a quick build, oob, with just the Studio 27 PE for some extra detail. So far I have started on the bodywork, just a bit of clean up and glueing, with a bit of filling to do.

Kits – 1:72 Fujimi FG1 Phantom (original issue) & Revell Eurofighter. Paint – All enamels. Decals – Modeldecal 097 (Phantom) & Xtradecal 72230 (Eurofighter) Extras – None, both models are completely from the box. McDD Phantom FG.1 43 Squadron RAF Leuchars Mid 1988 Built for the ‘Micro Modelling Month’ Campaign (GB) over at Modellers Alliance, Exactly three weeks from opening the boxes until finishing today – well I say finished, both models have a little ‘tidying-up’ still to do. The Phantom needs its ECM aerials on the top of the fin painted, blue 'concrete Sparrows' in the forward bays and the nav lights on the wing-tips. The Typhoon needs the IR sensor painted and again the nav lights on the wingtip pods. The Phantom is the last one in my stash and was bought with around five or six others when they first came-out in 1987 – yes they are thirty years old this year – the others were all built and enjoyed but are no-longer with us. I have to say that I enjoyed every minute of this build and after five previous attempts at building one these things, this is the first time I think I got it right !! – that said a MASSIVE amount of credit must go to Modeldecal, Dick Ward really knew what he was doing back in the day, the decals are around twenty-five years old and behaved flawlessly.
