  1. I hadn't expected to be doing a third build in this GB but I've hit the doldrums (see @mark.au for definition) with my Mosquito MkXVIII and need something to stop me fiddling whilst waiting for paint or glue to dry and spoiling it. So from the stash is this Bought some time between 1976 and 1979. I must have had a penchant for getting the odder versions of well known subjects if you count this and the other 2 builds of mine in this GB. For more of the historic background and a build to which I will refer is this from @PeterB done last year. https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235124107-messerschmitt-bf-110-d1r1finished/#comment-4719890 Because I'm using this as a distraction to stop me messing up the Tsetse, I will be doing this straight from the box. The only planned divergence from that aim will be to add some seat belts, try and fix (ie shorten) the main undercarriage and maybe do a 70/71 splinter pattern finish instead of plain green as per instructions. Peter also pointed out that the FA decals are likely to be incorrect but I'm probably going to ignore that having no replacements in the stash. I won't do a full sprue shot but just show that the bits are still sealed in plastic as when bought 40odd years ago (and which seems ............. no, no, that's "old man" talk! Get on with it!) Right. Let's see how quickly we can get this to the same stage as the Tsetse. See you later and thanks for looking. Rob
  2. Picture Update: Finally posting better pictures to this build. Calling this done. This is a Fujimi 1/72 Spitfire PR XIX made out of parts and bits and bobs of some discarded FR XIV sprues. I made this based on the color profile of HS701as seen in the book Spitfires in the Sun. This particular aircraft was from the 101 PR Unit of the Indian Air Force based out of Palam AF Base, 1950. Tamiya paints and wash. The only weathering is some light chipping on the leading and trailing edge of the wings. I opened the tail wheel doors and the pilot is from an old Matchbox kit. The canopy is part Airfix XIX and part vacuform. (Note - added a couple of better pics this morning)
  3. Hi, Here's my old friend that has been in the stash since the mid-1990's. I'm going to attempt to keep this simple and finish in time. I have the Xtra decals set for the FG1. Cheers, Stefan.
  4. I shall join with this still sealed TA-4 kit from Fujimi I will be building one of the Hi-vis options from the Hawkeye sheet, hmmm, checks or chevrons? 🤔 This will be my second attempt at a Fujimi A-4, the first is this still to be finished TA-4S conversion started a couple of years ago, maybe I will try and finish it along with this build.
  5. I have a few builds in mind for this GB - almost certainly won't get to them all - to start with, I'm going to build the Fujimi KV-107 as a Swedish HKP-4 using a rather nice looking decal sheet from Moose Republic: I'm planning on an out of the box build, and I'll be finishing it as one of the green/tan/black/dayglo options like the middle one in the photo. I'll make a start in a few days. cheers Julian
  6. Last of my lockdown builds....the old (ish) but still excellent Fujimi A-7D. Picked this one up at a model show last year for a very cheap price and it's worth every penny. Built completely OOB. The decals were the only weak point... probably not helped by the age of the kit, but i just about managed to salvage them as i really wanted to do the sharkmouth 23rd TFW machine. Paints were freehand airbrushed tamiya with a varnish of Vallejo premium gloss...and then satin to finish the job. Thanks for looking! 😁
  7. Hi all Here are photos of my most recent kit finished. Mig21 SMT Fujimi 1:72 Interior details Eduard resin and PE. Eduard resin wheels. Overall painting black basing followed with Gunze and Mr Color paints free-hand airbrushed. Comments and critics are welcome. Cheers
  8. In the Nordic GB I have built a number of planes which, perhaps inevitably are similar to very many other entries, so for this GB I thought I would try and find a more unusual subject. I initially was thinking of a Cutlass and Demon, but clearly they are not unusual enough as others have already entered them, so after a bit of head scratching I thought I would start with this. Back in the mid 1970's I picked up the Hasegawa A-6A which they released in 1968, and sometime in the 1990's I picked up their reboxing as an A-6E TRAM. Later I came across a couple of interesting Fujimi versions on sale at a reasonable price – KA-6D and EA-6A. I bought the latter but as Enzo would say should really have bought both – oh well! As far as I know only Fujimi and Italeri have produced these versions in 1/72, though there have been re-boxings by Tamiya, Testors and the like. According to In Detail and Scale (D&S) the USN issued a “Request for proposals” in 1956 for an all weather capable attack plane. There were no less than 12 designs submitted and in 1959 a contract was awarded to Grumman for their design 108 which was then designated A2F-1 and first flew in April 1962. First deliveries of the now renamed A-6A were made in March 1963. During its long service life several modified versions were produced, including 19 converted to A-6B fitted to carry AGM-78 Standard anti radar missiles, and 12 A-6C which carried the TRIM (Trails, Roads Interdiction Multisensor) sensor pod which was an early version of TRAM (Target Recognition and Attack Multisensor), and used infra red and low light TV to find targets such as convoys in the dark. This led to the definitive A-6E which had the TRAM sensors and started to enter service in 1971, at about the same time as the KA-6D tanker version. This build however is of the EAW version of the Intruder. Most of us have heard of the EA-6B Prowler and indeed many will have built one – my first was the Matchbox kit, but I now have a Hasegawa one in my stash. However, the Prowler was in fact a later development of the earlier EA-6A developed in response to a request from the USMC in 1960. 27 were built, 12 by converting A-6A and 15 from new, and they began to enter service in 1965, equipping what were originally Marine Composite Squadrons (Jamming). VMCJ -1, -2 and -3. In 1975 the remaining active EA-6A were concentrated in what became VMAQ-2 until replaced by Prowlers in 1979. Only VMCJ-1 saw action in Vietnam according to D&S but Wiki says VMCJ-2 sent planes and crew to support/reinforce them, so presumably they flew in their own markings? To be continued... Pete

  10. The venerable Fujimi F-4K/ FG-1 kit remains the only game in town for a Spey engined Phantom in 72nd scale, (unless you really like the Matchbox kit) and pops up now again as Fujimi do another limited re- issue, and can be picked up on the various auction sites around the web inbetween times. [/url] Thankfully, its still a very nice kit, the tooling holding up nicely and no problems with flash or short shots with my edition. This is my latest attempt, with the Xtradecal set X72003 providing the markings for a 43(F) Squadron aircraft circa 1971. Humbrol enamels overall. I'm not too sure about this one, and I'm putting this effort down as a practice run for further iterations of this fine kit. Thanks for looking, cheers, troffa
  11. Hi All I know I’m a bit late joining this group builds, but I should be able finish on time. I don’t have a good record on finishing group builds, I started an F-15 last year and I'm still working on it. I’m going to build the Fujimi 1/72 Iranian Air Force F-14a. I plan to start tomorrow and I will try an put up some photos everyday as I build. Anyway here are some photos of the kit. Ken
  12. WESTLAND LYNX HAS 2 702 NAS, HMS Avenger Flight, Yeovilton 1979 This is the Fujimi 1/72 kit with a few alterations, the main ones being a new tail rotor drive shaft cover to give a more bulked-out look compared with the kit, reshaped fin (the kit gives the Army style fin) and reshaped exhaust area. I left the main cabin empty but worked on the cockpit a bit. The kit doesn't supply the pilot's collective for some reason even though the other 3 sticks / levers are there so that had to be added. I also repositioned the cyclic sticks nearer to the seats to give room for the instrument panel. I added the Seaspray radar display on the observer's (post) side, but the rest of the instrument panel came from Modeldecal's sheet. I really like the original Oxford Blue scheme. I've had a tin of Xtracolour Oxford Blue for more years than I care to think about, but it still sprayed OK - took a while to dry though! The old Modeldecals performed well as usual, and a final coat of Humbrol satin varnish gave it that semi-gloss look of the early Navy Lynx. Nice to have some real warm sunshine to photograph it in after a long grey winter. Chris
  13. Hi All, Fujimi 1/72 Silver Jubilee Phantom. Probably one of the best schemes applied to the F-4. The kit was built from the box with the addition of Modeldecal sheet 44. Xtra Colour Enamels used for painting. Brian.
  14. Hello all. I bring you one of my last builds. The Fujimi Kit of the Sabre in portuguese colors as they were before complete retirement of the last of the fleet 1980. I used the Eduard zoom set and xtracolor and humbrol paints. All airbrushed. Hope you like it Best regards from Portugal Fernando Borges
