  1. Here's my offering...I checked with Scalemates and it indeed goes all the way back to 1973 and the first FROG kit. And I think I'll build it right OOB as the decals look alright...at least in register! Still in the bag... They look pretty good. Reasonably clean looking sprue... I'll get into it tonight. This will be a closed canopy job so I doubt I will do any fancy interior work. I think it's a tail sitter too, so some weight will have to go into the nose. And I'm not sure of the markings as there is no guide included with the plans. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! --John
  2. I'm a bit surprised that no-one has yet attempted this FROG classic: I acquired a batch of Novo kits second-hand a few years ago, including this. I wonder how much it was originally on sale for? 25p? 30p? Those were the days, probably before the big price hikes after the 1979 Oil Crisis. All parts present and correct: For obvious reasons, I'd rather not use the Novo decals. Instead I will build this as the black aircraft, using Cartograf decals from an Airfix kit that I may never build.
  3. Aptly, I have left this kit until last. This is the 'Frog' (Emhar), Anatra Anasal. This is a WW1 biplane that was built in Odessa for the Imperial Russian Air service. It later served in various other air forces such as the Polish Air force. Less than 100 were built and is such a fairly quaint topic to select. The kit is very well moulded and has an air of quality about it, considering it was originally tooled in 1977. This is the last kit that was designed by Rovex, no boxes etc were produced and only 500 'test shots' were made. There are more knowledgable people than I, when it comes to this, so I shan't get too bogged down in the detail. But as it goes, this kit is very significant in terms of Frog's history and more specifically their demise. As this is one of the first biplanes I have built, I shall keep the colour scheme simple, (Doped linen overall, with wood and metal details) so I can focus on the build. I shall be attempting to rig the aircraft, Let's just roll with it and see how this goes 😂 See below for an overview of the kit:
  4. Good morning, In this group build I have decided to embark on building 3 kits, which all started life as part of Frog. All 3 however, are Frog Spawn! As a relative youngster in the community (23!!!), I was not about when these kits were widely available. My fascination with these kits started when I was ten or so and I came home from school to find my dad rooting through a huge cardboard box full of Frog and Frogspawn... long story short he drove past a couple of ladies chucking a big box out and he saw something that caught his eye. Turns out these ladies were clearing out their late father's house and thought the treasure trove of kits were worthless! Apparently if he had come by sooner there were a couple of other boxes full of kits which had already gone... alas there are most likely on the big scrap pile in the sky 😂 Anyway, so instead of spending my pre-teens building airfix and the like, I spent it building various Frog kits! Stuff like the Spitfire and flying bomb combination spring to mind. On to the kits at hand though! The first of the three kits is the PV-1 Ventura, which as you can see below has just come in a clear bag with no instructions and a missing canopy part. This kit is interesting as it was never boxed and sold as a Frog kit before they went bust, the moulds were shipped out to Russia when this happened. Furthermore, As I have heard about the unreliabilty of these old decals I invested the measly sum of 6 pounds in some aftermarket decals from 'Colorado decals' which provide a wealth of options. I am still very unsure of which to depict but I am tempted by NZ4600 of the RNZAF (technically a b34 Lexington), which is painted in Olive Drab and Neutral Grey and is currently on display at the Museum of Transport and Technology in New Zealand. We shall see! Happy building Ash
  5. Good morning, Now onto the second of the 3 kits I will be attempting. This is the venerable Frog Fairey Delta (In a Novo Boxing). I believe this is the only conventional kit of this aircraft, however it does come with a rather unconventional feature; a moveable 'Droop-Snoot'. (The aircraft had a droopable snoto and cockpit, due to the high angle of attack the aircraft needed to maintain during take off and landing). Which leads me to the history of the aircraft. This was a transonic delta winged (Clue is in the name) research aircraft, which as designed to investigate the delta wing configuration at (you guessed it) transonic speeds. Pete Twiss on the first few flights however, noticed that this aircraft had capabilities much beyond this, and thus a world absolute air speed record was attempted. This was succefssfully completed in 1957, beating the previous holder, an F-100 , by some 300 MPH. So, as you can already understand, a very significant aircraft. It is even more significant when you consider Dassault got inspiration from the Fairey delta 2 for it's Mirage III fighter, see below. Thanks to @jbot1971, I will be modelling the aircraft, after it had completed it's record breaking flight, in a gaudy mauve colour. JBot, has kindly provided me with some decals, despite his retirement... Many thanks Jim! The kti itself, was moulded sometime in the lte 70s early 80s and is surpsirisngly well moulded! very little flash, as opposed to some other stuff I have built from Novo (cough... Gloster Javelin...), no doubt a lot of filler and sandpaper will be required, but hopefully I can produce something highly polished and neat. Thanks also to @PeterB for his help woth researching this. Cheers, Ash
  6. For my first contribution, I will be building the famed Fokker VIIb3M 'Southern Cross'. The kit is all FROG but alas, the decals were so old and brittle...I have taken the decals from the Valom kit and will be using them instead. I hope that's alright! As you see, I have another Fokker currently on the bench!
