Finnish Air Force History part 3A (Keskinen & Stenman) says that the first seven Fokker D. XXIs that were manufactured in the Netherlands had Dutch camouflagebruin (camoulage brown) top surfaces. These planes were shipped to Finland in late 1937 and assembled in Tampere. But was camo brown already used in 1937, and was it ever used as a uniform colour, not as part of the three tone camouflage? Here's some footage from 1938 Aviation Expo in Helsinki, FR-81 is seen starting at 1 minute mark. The bottom looks to be reflective, but is it natural metal or painted aluminium finish? What about the upper colour, any opinions about whether it's dark brown or perhaps khaki which the Dutch used before the three tone camo. https://yle.fi/a/20-105591 Here's a photo of the same FR-81, probably from 1938 as well. https://www.finna.fi/Record/sim.M016-21163?sid=3476041918&lng=en-gb&imgid=1

Hello Britmodellers, The Harvard/Texan has often been used to simulate other aircraft in the movies, so here's my rendition of a "Fokker D.XXI" as portrayed in the 1977 Dutch war movie "Soldaat van Oranje". Note the size difference between the converted HobbyBoss T-6G and a PM D.XXI. Thanks for watching! Luka

I am so happy this GB is running until almost the end of the year. That's all I will say about that. I searched the stash for something other than Finnish. No joy. I guess all the Norwegian, Danish and Swedish kits have been built. Then I found this one in the back, underneath a pile of Gustavs and Hawks... The blurb from the kit give a better description... The fine print.... The sprue...a nice baggie of resin... Decals, PE and foil... I will need some help on the paint job for this. I want to match the brown and grey that the Finns used and also the unpainted aspects of the fuselage need to be correct. Please chime in! Start time...tonight, tomorrow...something... --John

Well here's a turn up for the book, it hasn't got a jet engine ! Feeling that Finland was in danger of being underrepresented in this GB, I will be building this. Can't remember the last time I built a kit with ski's, should be good. cheers Pat

I am thinking about my next kit for when I finish off my Handley Page Sparrow and I really fancy a Fokker DXXI. I would like to build examples of the European 2nd Division powers fighter aircraft that were built or designed pre-war in small numbers like the DXXI and Koolhaven FK58 or only as prototypes like the Polish PZL 50. So my question I have seen a few kits but whats the best kit and whats the best scale I am veering to 1/48 but will happily build 1/72. No Vacuform but happy to build Resin. I am also happy to build prototype DXXIs like the Finnish retractable U/C version or the proposed Dutch Bristol Hercules/RR Merlin engine versions which I think only flew as paper planes. What a gorgeous sturdy beast

I would like to present to you my last completed project. It's Fokker D.XXI, the Dutch Air Force. The model is an old Matchbox, which is very dear to me, as well as most of their models. I did not often see this plane on forums, so it was an additional motivation for me to make it. Here's the picture. Enjoy.
