I've started thinking about my planned 1/48 "Special Duties" Lysander, and I ran across something in Hugh Verity's We Landed By Moonlight which has puzzled me. I'm aiming to model an aircraft as it would have appeared on the ground in France during a pick-up, and had assumed that this would involve wing slats extended and flaps lowered. But in Peter Proctor's appendix on "Modifications to the Lysander" he says, "I also remember the pilots telling the passengers to push back the automatic flaps as they left the aircraft." I think this means that the passengers in the rear compartment lifted the flaps into the horizontal position (thereby also retracting the inner slats) once they had the rear canopy open. I've certainly seen photographs of parked aircraft with the flaps raised, so presumably this was possible to do, despite the entirely automatic operation in flight--I just can't puzzle out why they would do this, minutes before a short-field take-off.

A question for the collective brains that are attuned to the ins and outs of the skyraider. Q: were the cooling shutters and cowl flaps tied so that they worked in sync? My intention is to build my current Skyraider with shutters open but does that mean I need to show the cowl flaps open too? thanks in advance.

Hey there! Yet another one Revell Airbus here. Things are gonna happen really slow not only because i'm retarded, but also because all the additional parts are travelling across the world with the sloooow post services. Particulary the wings with the deployed flaps and slats were ordered at the contrails in the middle of november (expecting delivery any day now) and the wonderful Bearbus decal (D-AKNO former livery that always made me smile some days in the UUWW) ordered at the end of september, well is considered lost and since Gaston from Nazca decals is really rare to give a reply (1 out of 3 letters) i have no clue what time will i get it. The kit surprised me being so small after working with rather big birds like B767-300 and A330-300. Following that i was further surprised to see separate nav lights of clear plastic that A330 didn't have. Hmm. But anyway the kit proved to be nice and easy so far. Since the wings are apparently on hold i decided to start with the rest of the fuselage and engines to be on the safe side. You might have already guessed it would be gear down and flaps full config for the final approach (oh, fingers crossed) Painting engines' parts with silver the straaangest thing in the nose part and this is how the assembly looks now, some parts just clicked in together Well yet to come are the stab wing, landing gear, and today i'm going to the paint shop to try to get some correct colours ...And patient waiting for the wings and decals. Steve.

Afternoon, I've finally given into temptation and made a start on this one. I have some big(ish) ideas to go with this kit - we'll see how many of them come to fruition. Things I definitely want to do are: - Drop the flaps - Separate all the flight control surfaces, - Add external (and possibly internal) lighting - Motorise the props My inclination is to keep all the doors closed up - out of the box the cargo hold is fairly plain, and I think it would take a lot of work to get it in to a state that I would be happy with. Also, I'm inclined to do it 'in-flight', so whilst the ramp could be down, it's more likely to be up. I'm still undecided on whether to have the wheels up or down - the kit wheels are rather strange slab-sided affairs, and I'm not aware of any AM replacements. I have the PE set and paint mask, but don't think I'll be bothering with the SAC landing gear - I'm a bit sceptical about the utility of these in most cases. I think this aircraft is quite well suited to dropping the flaps - it has a very simple high-lift system: no leading edge devices and dropped-hinge flaps with a fixed vane on the trailing edge. This should make getting the geometry correct that bit easier. So far, I've mostly been cutting things up, starting with one of the flaps and flap-hinge fairings: I've also cut out the ailerons, elevators and rudder, so I'll need to get the Evergreen strip out are start building up the missing parts. I might cut out the spoilers too, possibly only on one side, as these are also used for roll control and I want to try and capture a 'dynamic' snapshot as it were. If anyone has any advice on lighting, I'm all ears! http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234957864-adding-led-lights-to-models-any-good-how-to-guides/ Thanks for looking! Andrew

P-39/P-400 Landing Flaps 1:48 Eduard This set is one sheet of brass photo etch for dropping the landing flaps on Eduard's P-30/P-400 series of kits. The kits them selves are good but the flaps are moulded in the raised position. Conclusion The flap area is substantial for the P-39/P-400 and this set will no doubt enhance an already good kit. Recommended. Review sample courtesy of

Quick question, Has anybody ever tried fitting the Eduard flap set intended for a Cyber Hobby / Dragon Meteor on to an MPM/Xtrakit wing? If so how well did it go?

Hi I am looking to buy a razor saw for vary fine cuts. i.e. canop seperation, control surfaces etc. Any suggestions on make and model number. There are a lot of brands out there, but all say for "fine" work. Thanks Sean
