Hi A pair of two (also) very old models (1/72): Matchbox Lysander Mk I and Airfix Brewster 239 Buffalo, both in Finish markings from 1942-3. Lysander of TLeLv16 LeR1 (whatever it means), Buffalo of Finish WWII ace - E.Luukkanen (54 victories), HLeLv 24. Both from very archive shelf - I made Lysander in 1977 (I know it almost exactly since from 1978 to 1992 I made all together only six models) and Buffalo was done even earlier (1975?) originaly in RAF Airfix in-box markings from Singapore, than it was reconstructed into Finish about 1993-4. In 1977 I was considering this Lysender together with posted recently Dinah as my best models so far .... In this time I belived that Finish green should be a fresh light green colour. It has changed some years ago when I visited Helsinki museum of aviation and since then I know that it should be light olive green, sorry for this mistake. Hello! Here they are, paints for Finnish Defence Forces. Since 1981 virtually every ground vehicle has been painted with these colours and now for the first time they are available for scale modellers! These are water-based acrylics, enamel and lacquer versions will be available in the future: AN11 Tumman vihreä (Dark Green) AKAN 77088 AN22 Vaalean vihreä (Light Green) AKAN 77089 AN33 Ruskea (Brown) AKAN 77090 AN44 Musta (Black) AKAN 77091 3-colour camouflage scheme with AN11, AN22 and AN44 is the most common scheme (see 2nd & 3rd picture below), but on some vehicles all four colours are used (as in 4th pic). Hi All, Since Airfix will be bringing us some new tool Blenheim aircraft kits, a few pictures that show the bombs as carried plus the bomb bays of various Finnish Blenheim variants may be of interest. Since I am putting up a lot of pictures I decided not to flood Mark Haselden's thread on the Airfix Blenheim with them. All of the 62 images which will follow below are sourced from the SA-Kuva website. To date I have examined around 144,450 images from SA-Kuva and have downloaded 4703 images of interest which include 3122 aviation pictures. Fortunately I am most of the way through what SA-Kuva has online. Anyway here are some pictures; More to follow, over.... -
Hi, "There are many like it, but this one is mine". The Hornet in 1/48 is prehaps not the rarest object out there This one is a Finnish Air Force F-18C, HN-431 from HLLv 21. The build is inspired by two pictures of HN-431 taken on a highway strip in Lusi 2011 that I have found on the net (link and link). It is Hasegawa OOB except for decals and Sidewinders. This is a bird that has been sitting on my workbench for quite some time, actually over a year. However, finally finished and Ready for Inspection, so thank's for looking Cheers! /Fred

Hi, This is one of the Arsenal VG-40 used by the Swedish Volunteers Wing F19 in Finland during the Continuation War. As the Swedish Air Force had great difficulties replacing obsolete aircrafts at the outbreak of the war they turned to various manufacturers around Europe and the US. Only the Americans and Italians were willing to sell ready to assemble aircrafts, but those were already aging models. Therefore in late 1940 the French manufacturer Arsenal came up as an alternative, a proportion actually given by the Germans. The backside of the offer was that only the drawings were available, neither finished aircrafts nor engines or armament was provided in the deal. This postponed the Swedish decision as the Air Force was more interested in the Saab and FFVS developments. On the outbreak of the Continuation War in Finland, once again Swedish volunteer aviators joined the Finnish forces. During the Winter War the F19 wing had fought in the northern part of Finland using Gladiators and Hawker Harts. As the Swedish Air Force had a noticeable shortage of Fighters the VG-40 reappeared as an alternative. The metal and wood construction was relatively cheap to build and the RAF had provided Sweden with a number of Rolls Royce engines from Lancaster bombers that had made emergency landings in Sweden. F19 was the only wing that used the VG-40 and only 23 were ever built. They were all painted in Swedish Air force colors and marking except for the national insignia that was the Finnish one, as Sweden in itself was a neutral country during WWII. That is also the reason why the national insignias, as in the vignette, were painted over at the end of the war, just as the F19 wing did after the Winter War ended, before returning to Sweden. I used Azurs VG-36 and an aftermarket Merlin III and wheels for the build. The decals are a mix of leftovers from other builds. Or at least this is what might have been... The VG-40 never flew and for sure not in Swedish colors Thanks for looking! /Fred
