  1. After finishing my Trumpeter Challenger 2 Optelic I went back to my Mosquito build which is presenting me with a few problems as I have decided to follow @The Baronlead and make the engine bearers from brass rod/tube. Wanting something a little easier to build alongside the Mosquito I had a look in the stash and found this:- A straight forward model with no interior so shouldn't be any problems except for the wheels which have vinyl tyres including the centre pair of wheels which are all metal and have a ridged arrangement to help with the cross country performance. DEF (I think) produce a set of resin wheels but are twice the price of what I paid for the kit. Have not decided whether to stick with whats in the box or use them to cast resin replacements. Also undecided as to whether to put at least one of the two drivers positions in which will of course need to be scratch built, time will tell on this. Here are the box contents and instruction sheet pictures As you can see there is a small photo etch fret and markings for one vehicle are also supplied. Thanks for looking in I'll make a start on this soon Roger
  2. Been a long haul ,but the Nineteen place i have been working on have been finished ,well still got to put a few decals on the Italeri F100 super sabre and the Airfix T11 Vampire . What's that you say you want photos ? Oh well ,stay tuned . Some of them are a bit rough around the edges ,but i learnt a lot about model making ,such as filling gaps .Re Scribing panel lines .Masking for fuselage bands . Started on some 1/48 models ,three of them have been on the shelf for a few years .I had to wash all the dust and webs off them .
  3. Hello All, I have a shiny new red-box Airfix IL-2 Sturmovik in my stash: I have heard that it has "issues" - so, out with the plans and lets have a look: Crikey! After the initial panic attacks had died down, I realised that we could do something here, so out with the cutting mat... Top halves done. 60thou/1.5mm card insert, set proud so I could sand it down nicely. I used plastic cement to hold it all together because I wanted a resilient joint - there's going to be a lot of sanding! Lower half is a bit more complicated because of the wheel bays. I kept the wheel bays (they will need to be extended later) and added a piece of 60 thou that includes the flaps. Wheel bays were boxed in using paper and some 20thou square provided some ribbing. Paint is still wet in these photos. So the wings are all now stuck together and drying before their next sanding session Tailplane next up... Thanks for looking, Adrian
  4. Well its finally finished my first Tiger it took a while, with health problems then I lost the will to model.... started again then had a family bereavment I just kept looking at it and thinking bugger!! so I sat down and got on with it. So Im calling it finish
  5. I finished this last night so I set up my little photo studio outside. It was very sunny and the wind was a bit gusty. The sun was a bit too bright really but I thought that the strong illumination would be good for showing up the details of the interior. When I first put her on the paper backdrop and went to get a glove, I heard the wind catch the edge of the paper and blow her across the table. I had a heart stopping moment as I thought she was going to crash to the floor but my camera was on the table and kept most of the paper weighed down. If she had dropped on the floor at this stage I think I would have slashed my wrists, but fortunately all was good: Sorry if the framing is a bit rubbish but the sun was so bright I could barely make out what was on the screen: I noticed at around this point that the front probe was bent again so I straightened it: Here you can see rudder pedals and a joy stick: Here I'm trying to show some of the interior: Here is the first aid kit, the decal is off a Hasegawa Me 262 sheet: Here you can just make out the Mike Grant decals on the instrument panel in the cockpit: I then put her in my dispaly cabinet, at least now I can see what I'm doing: And finally an underside, aerial type shot: For such an old kit (55 years) I think she's turned out quite nice. Thanks to all who have followed me on this build and offered kind words of encouragement - its been emotional. Cheers, Nigel P.S.
