  1. Latest effort, just finished. This is an old limited-run resin and white metal kit, but accurate and nicely detailed. The contra-rotating propellor came as a solid bit to be glued on the front, but after much work has been made to rotate as two separate props. The vacuform canopy also took a lot of work to carefully cut out and fit - the canopy on the real thing was fully faired and blended with the fuselage. However it had been too long in the making, and jet fighters were already in advanced development. The M.B.5 was never fitted with armour or guns, which would have somewhat degraded its competitive edge, and the wing aerofoil section dated from 1927, giving it a compressibility issue at high speeds. But with more (and earlier) development it could have become the best British piston fighter of WW2. R2496, RAE Farnborough, 1945 (23) w by Philip Pain, on Flickr R2496, RAE Farnborough, 1945 (27) w by Philip Pain, on Flickr These two photos compare it with a contemporary Supermarine Spiteful F.14, and a standard Spitfire F.14. Also with a P-51D Mustang (the original Airfix Mustang kit) because the M.B.5 was once described "as a Mustang on steroids".
  2. Hi guys Here is my entry for the tribute to Edgar Brooks Spitfire STGB here on Britmodeller. I haven't built a Spitfire since I was a kid as its not my usual subject area but I picked up the Eduard Mk.XVI for a few reasons. (1) The box art just screamed buy me with a beautiful picture of the scheme I have modelled here. How many times have we all done that. The Spitfire is a plane that has been built to death by modellers in the standard camoflage schemes but the NMF just looks great on her and I couldn't resist. (2)I worked at Farnborough (now airport for business jets) for nearly 4 years in one of the old hangers that quite possibly could have housed these back in the day. (3) Being a member of Farnborough IPMS model club it was the only choice. The Eduard Spitfire is a beautiful kit that was a pure joy to put together. One of those kits that just fell together and probably the best fitting kit I have built in a few years. Painting wise I used AK's Xtreme metals for the first time and it worked flawlessly. Any minor issues I had with it were my own making. The Roundels and reg stencils were sprayed using Miracle Paint Masks which I am very impressed with. Unfortunately It is very difficult to photograph inside the cockpit but there are shots in the WIP HERE. A bit picture heavy. 3. Hi guys I will be building Eduard's 1:48 Mk.XVI Bubbletop in the box art markings for 17 Squadron based at Farnborough airbase in 1950. Review here. I picked this scheme for a few reasons. 1: It was the box art that sold me on the kit. The Spitfire looks great in NMF / Aluminium paint. 2: I worked at Farnborough (now airport for business jets) for nearly 4 years in one of the old hangers that quite possibly could have housed these back in the day. 3: Being a member of Farnborough IPMS model club it was the only choice. I will be doing this OOB with a little scratch building in the pilots office to liven things up. One thing I need to work out is what paint to use that best represents the painted silver / aluminium airframe. More pics to follow. Below are the only pictures I can find of SL549. The instructions say roundels and serial numbers were not painted on the lower surface of the wings. The above photo appears to confirm this.
  4. This beauty If it happens, I will be over the moon..... I can remember seeing a Gannet fly in the late 80's early 90's at a RAF Mildenhall Air Fete, but it's a distant memory being a child!
  5. Hello, i looking for photos of the Eurofighter mockup which was base for the first tool Revell kit: (1/72 Revell 4356 EuroFighter JF90 / EFA kit with gray box, stairs included and raised panel lines, released 1988) http://www.scalemates.com/products/product.php?id=143650 Is it this mockup from the 1988 the Farnborough Air Show?: http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/photo/000826990.html Now i found photo of the white-red EFA mockup which is from 1986 year - two years older: http://www.flickr.com/photos/86182676@N00/10743832953 http://www.fightercontrol.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&p=379038 EFA missing small intake at the tail fin. Is this white mockup different article and was really displayed at both 1986 and 1990 Farnborough Air Show? Thanks Lukas
