  1. Had a Hasegawa 109 F-fuselage laying around and my dad decided to play Frankenstein and build a full 109 using the Hasegawa parts together with a Fujimi wing from the sparesbox. Gonna do a JG3 G-2 that was captured by the Soviets in 1943 after an emergency landing. 2. Another F-4 crops up, this is a 43 Sqn FG.1 from circa 1970, the well documented XV574. Remember the photo being on the cover of an issue of Airfix Magazine back in the day, stalking a Soviet 'Bear'. From the currently still running STGB . Fujimi 'Silver Jubilee' boxing. OOB, I had to carve away the electronics fairing off the Tail-fin. Xtradecal markings, Eduard 'Brassin' Sidewinders, PJ Products Pilots. Xtracrylic's paints airbrushed over Ultimate Grey Primer. By no means perfect, I still have trouble airbrushing these particular paints, but happy with the overall finish. I did weather the bottom a bit, but it doesn't really show in the photo's, was a bit scared to go over the top even though photo's show they get really dirty underneath! Comments and queries welcome. Davey.
  3. Been given the go ahead to do my abandoned Phantom I started in last years '60's NATO/Warsaw Pact' GB. Got as far as assembling the main wing (doing an 'in-flight' aircraft, not done this since I was a kid!), and some cockpit bits. I obtained a set of pilots by PJ Products and a pack of Eduard AIM-9D's. I'm aware the RAF used G's around this period and that the D's are externally similar. Also the subject is an often seen photo of XV574 shadowing a Soviet 'Bear', using Xtradecal, erm….. decals. The main thing I have to do is shave off the Electronics whatsit's fairing from the tail-fin, hopefully it'll turn out OK. Hopefully will get on with this in the next week or so, last few things to finish off to our house extension we've just had done, carpet going in next week and bringing the rest of the household 'wares' down from upstairs! The last shot is a bit blurred, the auto-focus on my camera is knackered! Davey.
  4. Sea King HAR.3, D Flight, 202 Sqn, RAF Lossiemouth, 1981. This particular kit has sat on the shelf making me feel guilty for the last 18 months. I bought it second-hand, partly started, as a donor for a canopy missing from another kit. A few parts had been assembled and the extra RAF-style windows had been cut out. I couldn't bring myself simply to split it up for parts, so I had another go at rescuing it by crash-moulding a new canopy, this time using its own canopy to make a female mould form silicone, then a male mould from Milliput. I finished up by heating some acetate with a hair dryer and forming it over the male mould. Success.............. Its not perfect, but it works well enough for now! And finally, all my Sea Kings (so far) in one place! FredT
  5. Don't know if Aircrfat-Modern is the right place to ask, but it is were my interest in Fujimi kits lies. They tooled many good kits over the '90s but they seem really impossible to find now: browsing through the internet it doesn't seem a problem of availability in certain areas of the world but just that they stopped producing them. As far as I know the company is very well alive ( see their site http://www.fujimimokei.com/ ) only no more focused on these products. It's a pity they aren't capitalising on their assets, I think they would sell well without any need for re-boxings or new decals like Hasegawa keep doing every month. Anybody knows more about the reasons? Just wondering...
  6. Hi everyone A bit late to the party, I know but I am finally getting going on with my build for this STGB. My plan is to use the Fujimi KV-107 kit to do an early CH-113. I managed to track down a photo of a Canadian CH-113A prior to the 1981 refit i.e. before the additions of the nose-mounted radar, the 'top hat' exhausts and the Auxiliary Power Unit. The photo I found also shows the CH-113 with the large sponsons - different to the pictures in the PrintScale sheet. That simplifies the build giving me a fighting chance to finish by the deadline! According to the PrintScale sheet, the yellow is FS 13538 Golden Yellow. I managed to get hold of a pot of Mr Color C329 which carries that FS designation. I will be interested to see how the paint sprays as it is lacquer-based. Anyway, here's proof that have opened the box and made a start: IMG_3784 by Richard Coombe, on Flickr All the best for now Richard C
  7. I bought this at the model fair at Huddersfield last year. I used to love building Fujimi kits in the ‘80’s and early ‘90’s so I’m looking forward to getting stuck into this one. Also I’ve never built an Intruder before so it’s new territory. I’m not buying any additional parts, so it’s straight out of the box on this one, with perhaps a little enhancement along the way if it’s obvious and needs it. The plastic seems much harder than I’m used to with my last couple of builds being modern Airfix and Revell kits, but I don’t see that as a bad thing. The panel lines are very impressive, being fine and crisp. The sprues are also free from flash, so all good so far. The clear sprue is also very impressive, the plastic being appropriately thin and clear. The decal sheet is still in good condition and looks very usable. I think I’m going to build the aircraft on the cover, a Navy aircraft from VA-52 Knight Riders from the Vietnam war in 1969. The kit does provide a wealth of decal options and paint schemes. I’m excited about this build.
  8. Hi, I start building Fujimi Fg.1 and Revell F-4F phantoms about a year ago, and the plan was trying to do a WIP of the build.. which you can see on the link I failed miserably. The build is heavily influenced by @giemme's amazing phantom builds. @Gene K intake are also use, and this build wouldn't be happening if without his help and of course his intake patterns.. I also received many helps from other BM members who provide me with info regarding the subjects... Thanks guys! Fujimi 1/72 F-4 Phantom II Fg.1 Revell 1/72 F-4F Phantom II The Phantom on the background is Hasegawa 1/72 RF-4E which I also finished after being the shelf queen since 2008ish... Partially detailed by Eduard F-4E PE set. My wife think I had enough Phantom.... Cheers, Mario
  9. Hi.. This year mark Phantom's 60th Anniversary, a local modelling group here organize a Phantom Group Build. And since I have several in my stash, and this GB start right in my off-shore work schedule, obviously I'm obliged to join up. I start with these two 1/72 Phantom; Fujimi (Fgr.1, with Raspberry Ripple Scheme and 25th Anniversary marking) and Revell (JG.71 "Richtofen" Anniversary marking). The build started as soon I arrived and set in my usual "off shore work bench", with the F-4F got the first cut, filled the injection marks. I learned that one of the (apparently, many) flaws of the Revell was in the cockpit area. The Ejection seat mas set too low, I add several stack of evergreen strips I have with me. This made the instrument panel seated lower, So I hack out the kit's, made a new one using the strips, and glued the kit's instrument panel to keep with the original detail. Added some tiny detail to the other parts of the cockpit (wiring from the WSO's instrument panel, circuit breaker panel on the WSO's cockpit) I really not much of a Phantom Phreaks like many of you guys, and I don't have many references lying around here so.. any comments / reference are welcome.. Cheers, Mario
  10. Here is my recently completed Kaman Seasprite, an enjoyable build of an old kit. I decided to push myself and build a detailed interior, which as it turns very little can be seen. Airbrushed in acrylics, mainly Gunze and Tamiya with some Lifecolour also. This is only my second airbrushed model. The scratch built interior: Thanks for looking AW
  11. As I'm running this GB I suppose I ought to mark my spot with my first kit, yes there might be another one! First off will be a scheme I have wanted to do for a long time, that being the scheme worn by KV-107's of the Japanese Ground Self Defence Force based on the island of Okinawa and used for search and rescue duties. The main reason I want to do this is the fact that these aircraft carried a unique colour scheme for JGSDF KV-107's (it has also been used by UH-1's and MU-2's used for the same purpose on Okinawa) of white, orange and dark olive green split horizontally along the fuselage length. The kit I will be using for my build is the classic 1/72 Fujimi kit of the KV-107 and the decals will come from a recent sheet by Print Scale. First off here is the box art of the kit I will be using; Next up is a shot of the contents of the box showing that the kit has not been started yet; A fair amount of parts in there but a few are for different options and not relevant to the scheme I want to build. And finally a shot of the decal sheet I will be using and the scheme that she will be finished in; Now as you can just about see from the pictures on the instruction sheet she flew both with and without the large sponsons and I'm thinking of building her without them as I can then use them in cross kitting with a CH-46 kit so that I can build a Swedish HKP-4, as these have the same rear pylon as the US versions but have the large sponsons of the Japanese KV-107. And yes the Swedish one is a possibility for a second build but not in the splinter scheme as Steve is doing that scheme already and I wouldn't want to step on his toes . That's it for now, just have to wait until Saturday before I can make a start! Craig.
  12. Phantom FGR.2 XT911 228 OCU / 64 Sqn Coningsby, 1970 This is the 1/72 Fujimi kit with Modeldecal markings apart from the roundels, which are Xtradecal. I haven't built the Airfix Phantom yet, mainly because I have a fair stock of unbuilt Fujimis in the attic. I like this Fujimi kit - the panel lines are just about right and the shape and detail are good. I've gone back to the early days of the RAF Phantom with this one. I like the R/W/B roundels and glossy finish, and it now complements my Harrier GR.1 and Buccaneer S.2B in this scheme. Having looked at photos of the new Airfix kit, it seems to provide the tailplane with positive incidence - i.e. leading edge down. If you look at RAF Phantoms at rest the tailplane seems to come to rest the other way round - i.e. leading edge up - and this seems to make a big difference to the overall look. The Fujimi kit gives neutral incidence but I modified mine to give the at-rest look.
  13. Having recently purchased an airbrush and having sacrificed a couple of old kits as training mules I decided to take a break from my usual subjects and do a little stash reduction, with the aim of getting some further practice. Looking through the stash my eye fell upon this which has lain at the back of the cupboard for years: Sprue shots: The interior is, well, sparse: So inspired by the many superb builds on here I decided to have a go at putting some detail into the cabin. A look around the interwebs proved frustrating, there are many images of Seasprite interiors but most of them are SH-2G Super Seasprites and this is a SH-2F. Additionally there seems to be a wide range of equipment fits. Looking at images of other builds on various sites, no two are the same. So as an exercise in scratching, most of what I will put in will be conjectural based on what I have seen. So to begin I have cut off the starboard door so I can have it open. The door will need either thinning or replacing with plasticard to enable it to be attached in the open position: Cabin floor extended and a rear bulkhead fitted (this will be trimmed to the correct height later): That's all for now, more will follow after I get back from the Avalon Airshow and a week bushwalking in the (Victorian) Grampians. Comments, jokes, criticisms and gratuitous advice gratefully accepted. Cheers AW
  14. Hi all! I have the Fujimi 1/72 RD-53 and would like to ask the question: What will it take to convert it to a CH-53G other than some new decals? I'm preparing a Bundeswehr series of planes and thingies that drive on the ground and therefor would like to include the 'G' in my collection. Cheers Hans J
  15. As a sort of practise for future kits, I've had a go at couple of long-term loft residents. Firstly a Fujimi Bf109G-6. Quite a nice little kit. I have no idea on its acuracy but it looks OK to me. Finished in Vallejo RLM 74, 75 and 76. I'm not sure that the contrast between the two upper surface colours is strong enough. My attempt at mottling is still a bit heavy handed. 1. 2. 3. 4. Next is a Hobbycraft Bf109G-14 finished in Vallejo RLM 76, 81 and 82 (or is it 83?). Another decent little kit that goes together quickly and easily. Again my mottling didn't turn out quite as I wanted but like Father Ted's car, the more I messed with it , the worse it got. 1. 2. 3. 4.
  16. Here is my Fujimi 1:72 Supermarine Spitfire PR.XIX completed back in 2002. It represents PM655 "W-6C", of the Photographic Reconnaissance Development Unit, RAF, at Benson, England, in 1947-48. Comments are, as usual, welcome and thanks for looking Miguel
  17. Hi guys, After moving house 2 years ago I've not touched a thing model wise due circumstances. I do currently have a WIP thread for a McLaren F1 but want to get my skill level up before finishing it so this is why I'll do this first. It's an older kit I picked up recently not that great a mould by the looks of the plastic. Soft panel lines, flash and just bits that have just plain gone wrong. So a good kit to practice on! First up was removing the seam lines of which there are a few. The front spoiler is a nightmare. A big chunk mis moulded on the front right hand side and the front left inside a mess of plastic that will need some work to make sit smoothly. So I've rescribed the panel lines (something I need to practice. Slipping with scriber = 😠) and tidied up the seams. I'm not sure if I'll glue the spoliers then paint or paint them separately and add later. Cheers, Homer
  18. My next one for 2017. Must be the third, I think. I handed it over to my daughter last night, and she was well pleased! The smile on her face said it all. (She's 20 by the way) So, here are the images: I like the 'arty' 'up-hill' look. Actually, it was me with the camera at a skew angle! On the whole, a very pleasant build. I had a few problems during the build. Some of them were my own (The clear-coating being the major one) and one was the kit (The wheels!). I have just noticed that on these pictures, the little 'sting' aerial is a bit off straight. I corrected that after the pictures were taken. Any comments, positive or negative are welcome. Thanks for looking, Alan.
  19. Good day all. It is very unusual for me to post two builds in less than a week. In fact, it never happens, until today. Prior to to my 3 year break, there'd be a good month between posts. The timing of the photography session with my little 'warm up' Vampire post the other day, then finishing and photographing this one means it's ready to post. 😎 History: The last two Phantoms I made were a vintage Hasegawa IDF RF4E, and the wonderfully dodgy Matchbox F4K/M, built back when both they, and me, were nice and new. I think I build better than I did back then so there is something to be said for old age. 😓 This one is the Fujimi Fire Birds offering from 1989. It has been sitting in my stash since the mid 1990s bought secondhand when I toyed with the idea of restarting my modelling hobby. I didn't though, because restarting my hobby had to wait till 2013! 😭 With the release of the Airfix kit and following my recent build warm up, it was decided to finally get this one done. Still a nice kit of course and I don't feel the need to replace the Fujimi FG.1 in my stash with a newer Airfix one. I threw in some Quickboost resin seats, QMT resin wheels and those Master pitot tube sets just for the fun of it. The scheme is from Xtradecal sheet X72295 and represents a 92 Sqn FGR.2 on detachment to RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus, 1989. I also had a set of Airdoc stencils as well. I'm not sure when I bought them, but WHAT WAS I THINKING!! @##%%@ Phantom stencils! Where did my life go? Didn't I have better things to do? Anyway, here you go, thank you for your time. I feel I was still warming up a little as my current build is definitely going better than this Phantom did. 🤕 Phantom-FGR2_02 by Jonathan Macauley, on Flickr Phantom-FGR2_01 by Jonathan Macauley, on Flickr Phantom-FGR2_03 by Jonathan Macauley, on Flickr Phantom-FGR2_05 by Jonathan Macauley, on Flickr Phantom-FGR2_06 by Jonathan Macauley, on Flickr Phantom-FGR2_07 by Jonathan Macauley, on Flickr Phantom-FGR2_08 by Jonathan Macauley, on Flickr Phantom-FGR2_09 by Jonathan Macauley, on Flickr
  20. Finished the 1/72 Fujimi A-7D kit, circa 1973, from England AFB, LA, using an aftermarket cockpit set and decals scrounged from the spares box. Build thread is here for those interested: A-7D Build It was a great kit and fun to build. Thanks for looking, Ed
  21. Another interesting, longer time researched model I wanna make in 1/48. (1/72 would be a lot easier!!!!) Spanish Navy, Armada Española Attack component AH-G Cobra 1/48 relatively rare Fujimi kit (the only G model in 48th.... why ever..) Cobra Company Resin cockpit (for the J, but better than nothing ) Series Españolas Decals The Spanish Navy operated 8 Cobras, being replaced more or less by the Harrier quite a lot of info here already assembled, thanks guys!: https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235031960-ah-1g-cobra-148-help-needed/&tab=comments#comment-2925359 The Spanish Navy operated 8 Cobras on the helicopter carrier Dedalo, being replaced more or less by the AV-8S Harrier (Matador ) during the 80ies, see also here Spanish Navy Harrier AV-8S Matador it will be armed with SUU-11 gun containers (quickboost) and rocket pods (still to be sourced or found lying around) a quick start tonight: it is a very small chopper and therefor model, only a few parts! hope that will speed up my average build time! the cockpit resin parts look nice! hope that something will be seen after closing the canopy!! cheers y adios for now! 22. Hi All, I had hoped that this would be my last RFI of 2018, but I ran out of time on New Year's eve... So, it's my first RFI of 2019. This is one of the many Fujimi 911 variants. I have had this in my stash for probably 30 years, and I had partially completed it about 15 years ago, then for whatever reason, I put it away and more or less forgot about it. If you want to see the build thread, go here. Anyway, I finally finished it last night, but because I was tired, I didn't take pictures until this evening. So, here they are: A common complaint that I have heard on this forum is that Fujimi Car kits seems to have a very high ride height. This one doesn't seem too bad. It looks about right to me. This one looks a bit odd as the foreground is completely out of focus and makes the whole car look weird. The camera just focused on the top of the window frame! I might try to get a better picture later. I have just noticed that the rear wheel seems to be protruding from the bodywork on the right side. This is because there is about 2mm of lateral movement on the steel bar that is the axle. With careful positioning, the axle can be centred. What I really need is a spacer on each side, but that would require dismantling the back of the car, which I am not prepared to do. The only other problem that I encountered was that the decals appeared to be made of formica and just about as flexible. My decal softener didn't seem to touch it! Overall, though I am quite pleased with the end result. Thanks for looking. Cheers, Alan.
  23. Hello All, Another one rescued from the dungeon of despondency! I bought this little beastie a long while back, probably over 25 years ago, and it languished it its box for a long time. Again, it was one that I got out more recently, did some more work, then put away again, probably due to the issues with my eyesight. Anyway, too much waffle. This week after I had completed the 288 GTO, I happened upon this box in my garage (The previously mentioned Dungeon of Despondency), and thought "Why not this one?", So, here we are again: The box: Typical Koenig 'over the top' conversion, I think... The body, previously painted with Humbrol Red (Hu 19). I was really pleased with the finish. Applied from a spray can, I think. No great amount of orange-peel to be seen. The nose. Slightly fuzzy. I think the camera moved while I took the picture ... The rear. Again, a really nice finish... The underside. I think that the steering looks a bit strange, but it's the way the model was made. I suspect that it's a normal Fujimi 911 floor pan moulding that has had extras added, so the wheel offsets are a bit 'wide' to fit the wider body-shell, if that makes sense... It sits on all four wheels 'four-square', which is always a bonus. I had to make replacement tail pipes, as one of the 'chromed' ones pinged off into the wild, never to be seen again. A bit of 1/8th inch 'evergreen' styrene tubing, with the end routed out to simulate the tail-pipe and hey-presto, new tail-pipes. So that's where we have got to. A promising start... Thanks for looking, Alan.
  24. This is my 1/72 Fujimi Phantom dating from the 1990s, but built earlier this year at about the time the new Airfix version became available. The fit of parts was quite good and probably would have been regarded as good when it was released. I would have liked to fit the extended nose leg but it didn't seem to be correct given the absence of crew and dropped flaps.
  25. Now that First of Class flying trials onboard HMS QUEEN ELIZABETH have completed with a flourish, fast jet flying has returned to the Fleet Air Arm with a vengeance! Time for another F-35B model, methinks. And, I just couldn't resist another speculative RN Scheme, after all, what exactly do the RAF plan to do with theirs? This is the Fujimi kit, which is better than Hasegawa in some respects, but less accurate in others. I now have both and I'm not sure that I have any preference for either. Decals (for 809 Sqn - which is the first RN F-35B Sqn) are a mix of kit and home made inkjet printed - I have toned them down slightly compared with my previous build as befits a more operational colour scheme. As my first one has its intake barn doors open and nozzle rotated, this one is relatively clean, although I opened up the weapons bays and added some AMRAAMs (as this option is missing on the Hasegawa kit). ... and then to finish the year, I have updated last year's F-35 build to include the badge of the Integrated Test Flight (another inkjet decal print) worn during FOC trials. Mine is a little larger than reality, and worn on the inside tail surfaces, but it makes the point! FredT
