    Wildcat question

Britmodellers, I am once again asking for your knowledge. Can anyone tell me what the pod-shaped object under the port wing is? There seems to be an empty rack under the starboard wing, but I think I have also seen that pod under the starboard wing on other photos, but always only one seems to be carried. Thanks in advance.
  2. With no less then three (3, tres, shlosha, f@@#$#@$) kits on hold for missing parts (Seafang, A-26B, Typhoon) I opted for something that should be a quick build. My stash is full (if building was a way to guarantee long life - I would be a true Raelian, but most of them require a skill level I still do not yet poses in order to fully create a good build). Finally picked this Tamiya F4f-4. Build should be simple to put together with most of the time spent painting. Also pulled a resin cockpit for the kit I picked off eBay for pennies. A small number of
  3. So I'm on here all the time admiring everyone else's work, insight, and good nature and humor, but never really contribute. So as I delve back into this hobby addiction, which is greatly needed, I am making myself grow and delve deeper into this art. So I will put out updates on this build of Trumpeter's 1/32 Late F4F-3 and welcome feedback, critique, criticism, or experience...jokes too. My head is thick, my hide is thicker and I like the camaraderie on this site. I'm newer and want to jump in...so thanks. I have also started a new topic asking for insight to lap belts prior to Midway/ea
  4. Starting this kit is an attempt at regaining my interest in modeling. Lost interest due to the mad cow attack and my father having a heart attack. His time is up, he is 82 smoked for 70 years, but has excellent lungs. According to Admiral's instructions you can build an F4F-3, F4F-3A, F4F-3P and a Martlett Mk III and I think if you don't cut the fuselage you can build a Martlett Mk I. This is the first step - cut the fuselage. I am not so sure of the second cut though. I am wondering if these instructions a for their FM2. Thanks for looking. Stephen
  5. In October 1943 almost four dozen of US a/c (20 Dauntless, 14 Wildcats and 10 Avengers) attacked the German shipping in Norwegian fjords near Bodo - just north of the Arctic circle. Several photos show the SBD-5s (no upper cowling air intake) with red-surrounded stars-and-bars and single- ot two-digit number on the fin. The well-known photo of SBD No.19 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Leader#/media/File:SBD-3_CV-4_Norway_1943_NAN10-1-45.jpg shows the plane in two-tone camouflage of Blue Gray and Light Gray - the undersides surely aren't white and there's no difference between the fuse
  6. Evening all, Having run out of steam a little with my Battle of Britain project, I've switched my attention to my main area of interest, naval aviation. I started a Hobby Boss F9F last week, but couldn't resist making a start on another couple of classic fighters whilst the Panther trickles along in the background. Having been o impressed with the Defiant, I wanted to crack open another of Airfix's recent toolings, and having picked up the Wildcat and Kate dogfight double, the F-4F seemed an obvious choice. My pair of Tamiya Corsairs have been screaming at me from the stash for some time now
