  1. Look at this beauty, what a cracking kit, and an ebay bargain under £25! The beautiful silver F1s are very tempting but I have another in the stash ready for those, so this one continues my 80s RAF theme and will be a grey/green camo F3 from the Lightning Training Flight, circa 1985. Great decal sheet again, and plenty of little aerials, etc to stick on the airframe. Not sure whether Binbrook's F3s carried their Firestreaks or Red Tops very often, or were usually flown clean? I'll check out some photos. Did they ever sit QRA in the 80s or was that only the F6? This is what I'm aiming for!
  2. Am looking for some help, have been asked by a friend to build an F3 ADV for them. Simple question, who produces the better kit in 1/48 ? Thanks
  3. I'll be honest from the start; This kit very nearly wasn't going to get built. I bought it on a whim with a view to building a full set of the various interceptor generations. Lightning, Phantom, Tornado and Typhoon. I was so underwhelmed when I opened the box that I just packed it all back up again and pushed it to the back of the shelf. But then I bought myself an airbrush and needed a couple of mule builds to practice on and try out the various types of acrylics that were available locally. I looked through the stash and chose a Revell Fokker Dr.1 to paint with Gunze and Tamiya paints and this Tornado to paint with the much maligned Humbrol Acrylics. First up was the cockpit. Now when I say cockpit what Airfix supply isn't isn't so much a cockpit as a smooth, flat, featureless bathtub. After their delightful little Vampire model this was a real disappointment. Rather than try to make a silk purse from a sows ear by adding detail I've elected to fit the pilot figures and build this as an "in-flight" model with the cockpit closed and undercarriage up. Even so, I think it'll need a little more than a quick coat of 164 - Dark Sea Grey to be acceptable. Airfix-Tornado---cockpit by Martin Fay, on Flickr I've also made a start on the wings, replete with raised panel lines and enormous ejection marks. How very 70's. 2016-09-09-11.30 by Martin Fay, on Flickr Much slicing, scraping and sanding later and we're getting there. 4. Here is my latest build both 1:48. Using the HobbyBoss and Italeri kits with Eduard BigEd sets for both, some scratch building where needed and painted with Vallejo Air. I know the pureists amongst you don't like the shape of the HobbyBoss nose, but I have to say its a far superior kit to the Italeri! I have had to use filters for the photos to get some half decent images, I can assure you they are not quite as weathered as they appear in the pics!
  5. I've been given a Revell Tornado F2 in 32nd scale to build as a Saudi F3. Specifically the F3 that is On the gate of the RSAF museum here in Riyadh. It's for one of the guys who put that airframe there. I was on GR1's so the F's are slightly off topic for me. Main question is, The box says F2 but markings inside are (or seem to be) for a RSAF F3? So what is the main difference? This will be a quick/simple build, OOB with anything extra scratchbuilt. The seats for example are awful! Any help gratefully accepted. My payment? an Airfix 1/48th Buccaneer. Fair swap! Pete
  6. Hello again! I haven't posted for a few weeks due to exams (only two more to go!) but I did buy this a couple weeks ago and I have done a little work on it between revising. I did manage to get the wings on today, however, I didn't manage to get a picture. Here's the work so far. Fuselage Nose weight I wasn't happy with the kits placing of the seat, so I moved it back a little. As usual I added seatbelts from Tamiya tape. More to follow... Ben
