  1. Finnish Hornet finished! 1/48 scale Kinetic kit with Quinta cockpit, Reskit wheels and Modelmaker decals. You really need the Modelmaker decals for any FI F/A-18C as they provide the correct Finnish-language stencils. Some images also include an Italeri Finnish Hawk Mk. 51A which I built last year.
  2. OK. I have about two weeks to build this one. My version of a 'Weekend Build'...I am not sure which Lancer aircraft I'll build, but I want to build the aircraft first and then update the title. Right now I am leaning towards #1 on the aftermarket sheet. Sorry. No sprue. We all know what it looks like. Some bits started... --John
  3. OK my first GB. I model planes with my 10 yr old son. We were talking about what we wanted to model and we wrote a long list of carrier based aircraft we wanted to complete. The Hornet fits in nicely and was on our list and then I spotted this GB! So thought I'd dive in. I've currently got a Tomcat on the go, and also a Sea Vixen with my son. I suspect the Tomcat may have to take a backseat while I work on this. I was originally just going to add the cheap 1/72 Italeri F/A 18 to my stash, but was advised by @PhantomBigStu and @vppelt68 that the Academy was a better bet for a few more quid. So I ordered one and it arrived today. The online seller packaged it in a lovely environmentally friendly cardboard package 👍 Mr Postie left it outside the house as no-one was in and it was completely sodden by the time I got home . Ahh well luckily the model box inside the package wasn't too bad (you can see the wet bits in the photos) and the only bit not in a plastic bag in the box was the instructions which were a little damp but nothing to worry about. Sooooooo. Plan is. Build this completely OOB. Not sure which of the 3 decal options I will apply. I'll probably let my son decide. I'll be hand painting using mainly Revell Enamels. I'm just about to see if there are any colours I need to order, and wash the sprue. Thanks for having us along.
  4. Hi there, Recently I bought the Revell 1:48 Swiss Hornet kit, and according to the instructions I should mix two paints for both upper and lower outer surfaces (Revell 371+374 in two different blends). I'm not keen on mixing paints, so anyone for the official FS or RAL numbers? Cheers, Rob
  5. This is my next project: This is my first model were the panel lines are raised. I'm not going to be re-scribing them: 1 - Because I don't want to and 2 - because I don't have a small razor saw to scribe the lines with. I have bought a scribing tool but can't seem to get on with it. I've watched a few videos on Youtube about weathering and I'm thinking of giving the thinned oil wash a go like this here: https://youtu.be/FXerpuOthXk (7:30) So far I have removed parts from the sprue and sanded them down, assembled the cockpit, primed, painted, glossed and decaled the consoles. I used tamiya masking tape folded on itself and painted in sand yellow matt 361 16 and a bit of foil for the buckle. From this image, you can see that more Microsol is required to help the decal conform to the switches and buttons on the consoles. I'll report back.
  6. After months and months of searching (basically since the aircraft was released for DCS in 2018,) I finally was able to get my hands on this beauty! Of course, the "bug" needs no introduction, currently flying for a number of foreign Air Forces. I apologise for having already started her before starting this thread, but the excitement was too great!
  7. F/A-18C - For Kinetic Kit 1:48 Eduard The kinetic kit is a good one, however Eduard are along as always offering their update sets for the kit. Here we have 3 sets; Interior, exterior and seatbelts. Interior This is one brass fret, and one nickel fret which contains coloured parts. The coloured arts are mainly the instrument and side panels in the cockpit along with the ejection seat firing handles. Additional parts are for the rudder pedals, Head up display, the large decking area being the cockpit, the canopy frame, and canopy mirrors. Exterior This is one large brass fret and provides parts for; slime lights, wingtip missile rails, refuelling probe, intakes, boarding ladder, wheel wells, shoulder missile launchers, arrester hook and various smaller panels. Seatbelts This small fret provides a full set of coloured seatbelts for the aircraft. These are the new Steel belts from Eduard. They are etched from 0.1mm sheet, which looks like stainless steel because it doesn't rust, these new belts combine the best of both worlds. The resulting etch is thin at around 0.06mm, and the paint that has been applied after etching is included in that thickness. The paint itself seems to be more flexible too, and the designs have added details such as shadows printed near buckles and joints to give an added depth to the design. They appear less susceptible to fatigue and will stand up to repeated movements, and can be posed much more realistically due to the ease of bending of the surface. The paint is also a lot less likely to flake off at a sharp bend, which is a worry for standard PE belts. Masks Supplied on a sheet of yellow kabuki tape, these pre-cut masks supply you with a full set of masks for the canopy, with compound curved handled by using frame hugging masks, while the highly curved gaps are in-filled with either liquid mask or offcuts from the background tape. In addition you get a set of hub masks for the wheels, allowing you to cut the demarcation perfectly with little effort. Conclusion These sets will enhance your F/A-18C model. Recommended. 8. Hello! After a long forced absence from the workbench I managed to get this one finished at last. This is the Hobbyboss 1/48 F/A-18C Hornet built with the aid of Two Bobs decals and a scratched seat harness from me. Painted with Lifecolour/Tamiya acrylics and weathered with my own wash and an oil paint dot filter. Markings are that of the USMC Squadron VFMA-122 "CRUSADERS" Hope you enjoy the model.
