My second entry from my three-build challenge is going to be a very well-known Tamiya kit that I plan to do as a Yugoslavian aircraft. Here is what I have: Not huge amount of aftermarket bits. However that box of resin is really full of goodies - I'll show its content later in this thread. Decal provides markings for a very non-standard Yugoslavian camouflage scheme of grey aircraft with dark green spots. I do not really like it to be honest. My intention is to make a natural metal bird with red arctic tail and tanks - I have references to at least two such aircraft with Yugoslavian serials 10600 and 10620 which had the same large size roundels (normally F-84G at that period had smaller sized roundels). I'll need to source serials and large nose numbers which I do not think should be a problem because at early stage of F-84G career with RV i PVO they were of typical USAF font. Eduard masks hopefully will save me an hour or so for masking the canopy.

Since I've already done the Short lived Republic F-105 Thunderbird, It's high time to go to the waaay back machine and do the Thunderbirds first iteration with Tamiya's 1/48 F-84G. In real life Chrome no less! Not sure how that will work out. I haven't built a chrome plated kit since sine I did a Hawk P-51 back when Johnson was President. Lyndon, not Andrew. SO lets see what the kits offers us shall we? Lots'O Chrome thats for sure This should prove interesting. to say the least. But forward as they say... Into the Fog!

Perhaps I'm not the only one in love with SEA (Vietnam-style) USAF TAC camouflage of two greens and tan over whitish grey. And quite recently I have found a picture of the Turkish AF F-84G 51-9953 in such camouflage. The aircraft is (or maybe was) exhibited at the Istanbul museum https://www.aviationphotocompany.com/p91387570/h60563EDE#h60563ede As there are other photos available of the same plane (in the same museum, but other period perhaps) sporting overall pale grey (or maybe even NM) finish I would like to know, whether any Turkish F-84Gs were ever flying in this camo (the last squadron has replaced them with F-5s in 1966, but maybe few were left as trainers or unit hacks?) or is this just a "licentia poetica" of the Istanbul museum staff? F-84G Thunderjet | Heller | 1/72 United States -- Col. Joe Davis, Jr. Pilot I completed this kit on September 29, 2018. It was not going to be my best because the kit was very bad: clumsy raised panel lines, little detail and the plastic of the body was terribly warped. For those reasons, I chose to make this an "experimental" kit, trying several new paint techniques and ideas. The work in progress is here. The kit turned out better than I had hoped and I'm quite proud how it turned out. I promised my youngest son that it would go on his ceiling, since it started as a father/son project. We stopped working on it together when it was discovered what terrible shape the kit was in. According to the US Air Force Museum, Col. Joe Davis was a highly decorated fighter pilot, serving in both WWII and Korea and was commander of all F-84 units at the end of the Korean war. His aircraft was named "Four Queens" in honor of his Wife and 3 Daughters back home. The F-84 Thunderjet entered service in 1947, but structural and engine problems needed to be resolved before it was considered fully operational in 1949 (F-84D model). The definitive F-84G entered service in 1951. According to Wikipedia, the F-84 was the USAF's primary strike aircraft in the Korean war flying over 86,000 sorties and destroying 60% of all ground targets in the war. It is also notable for being the US Air Force Thunderbirds demonstration team's first aircraft. Finishing: Seams filled with CA (superglue) Paints: (applied from base coat to surface): Alclad RAF High Speed Silver > Alclad polished aluminum > Alclad Stainless steel for darker panels > Testors metallizer sealer > Decals > Testors metallizer sealer > weathering (oil washes) > Testors metallizer sealer Detail paints: Testors Model Master red, black, zinc chromate in cockpit Decals: Aeromaster Thunderjets over Korea, Pt. II (ca. 1999) I will be doing "Four Queens" again, as I have the Italeri kit of that plane. There were a couple other really cool aircraft in the Aeromaster decal set -- it's tempting to do one of those too. Here it is in it's final place on my son's ceiling! It's next to a Hasegawa F-86 that I rescribed and which was my first time using Alclad: My only disappointment in this build is that the lettering (USAF) on top has some silvering and on the bottom appears to have had the ink run. Two norwegian Thunderjet’s in a taking off scene. Our relaive small airforce were neatly flooded with over 200 of these jets in rhe early 50’s, the largest one time purchase our airforce have ever done. All these new planes called for an urgent need of more pilots. A lot of new unexperienced pilots, just kids really, got to fly them. This in turn cause a lot of mishaps and accidents. These two jets here collided in mid air in january 1956. During a ‘break away’ drill, MU-S managed to stick his wing tank up the tailpipe of MU-R. The pilot of the latter managed to eject the other sadly, didnt and wa killed. All modelled and rendered in Modo with some touch up paint work in photoshop afterwards..

Hi guys, finally finished my F-84G. Tamiya's kit in 72nd scale, built OOB. - Metallic finish powered by Ak extreme metal (alluminium and dark alluminium) - details painted with Gunze and Tamiya's acryl paints - no aftermarket used except for the Eduard's pre-cut masks Sadly i had some troubles with the kit decals, but i'm very happy of the result. By the way, is my second attempt with NMF after the Airfix Lightning. Now place to pics! That's all, hope you like it! ciao Ale

Hello guys, a lot of time is passed from my last attempt to post a wip here on BM. Now, it's time to try again! I choose the Tamiya's 1/72nd scale F-84 Thunderjet. I'ts a greta kit, with a small amount of pieces and very easy to assemble. I will madethe classic "Four queens". Not so much original, but a very colourful aircraft. It will be my second effort with the NM finish. This is the real thing (Photo: Us Air Force) And this is the kit: a scale down of the Tamiya's masterpiece in 48th scale. I'll build my model strictly OOB. Today i start to assembly some parts, tomorrow i will post some news. Time to put hand to airbrush and piant the fisrt details (cockpit, seat, etc.) ciao Ale

A lovely kit and minimal filler needed. Painted with Model Air Steel. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.
