  1. This is a placeholder for my third FineMolds F-4 build. Its a reissue from last winter of three 1982 one-off schemes from the JASDF '82 ACM. Currently intending to do the scheme in the bottom image, unique for a F-4 its a navy blue underside, with loads of white stencils, with 3 shades of blue on the top, and then normally painted white and grey tanks (no other stores in the only photo I can find). Oh and weathering, those mid-blue diamonds on the top streaked into the pale blue. Will be OOB except for Quinta 3D cockpit and Master probe. Sprue shot when I start, after CF-104 and CF-116 builds done for Century Series and F-5 GBs. Chris
  2. Hi, I'm joining this GB with this; I think I started this build sometimes last year.. Honestly I forgot what kind of plan I got for this kit. The F-4E PE left over I kept inside the box is a clue that I did plan something. I remembered I add recast side panel details from other resin set for F-4, and engine face in order to add Gene's seamless intake method. Blurred but you can see the intake splitter strakes from styrene sheet and needle AOA probe. I also added several wirings on the cockpit And the engine pressure gauge (?) Wires and styrene sheet also on the wheel wells Cheers, Mario
  3. Right build #2, not originally planning at all, but after finding the digital decals set for my Mitsubishi F-2A I was sort of hooked on these JASDF schemes, I even have one for an F15J! So other than that I don’t know why I’m building a 2nd Phantom….other that pure madness! So starting right off with the scheme, crazy and I love it! Way too bonkers to do with masks (in this scale…. 1.32nd?? ) but with decals it’ll look awesome! DXM Models have released this scheme in decals form..... bless there wee hearts! That said the number of decals required to do this scheme is a bit scary, least the decals are really nicely printed By pure chance I came across this model and the F-15J at a store that is slowly closing down…. They have sooooo much older/rare/unusual stuff they want to clear out by the end of the year! The base kit is the Hasegawa RF-4EJ, which is actually an F-4EJ with Recon pods, plus the kit is very much the usual mix-n-match of sprues from Hasegawa. I have Recon pods if anyone wants them?. Originally, I thought I’d have to steal of re-cast bits from my ZM F-4EJ Kai to build this but after careful study of photographs and reading up on her, she was actually just an F-4EJ which makes life so much easier. So I can pretty well build this one straight from the box. The only extra AM bits will be some exhaust cans I stole from my F-4J. Plus she only flew with a pair of drop tanks as well, no other armament was fitted. The only thing I really don’t like with this build is the elevators, they have raised panel lines whereas the rest of the kit has engraved….. I hate doing panel lines!! The only caveat with this build is that it is build #2 so there are no guarantee's I’ll finish her in time…… I do have a huge Viggen waiting in the wings!
  4. Hello everybody... Rather than do two separate RFI's for these I'm throwing them together here. I must warn you this RFI will be picture heavy. First up is a 1/72 Accurate Miniatures (Monogram) F-4C in the markings of 64-0852 of the 122nd TFS from the Louisianan Air National Guard. This was built for the Phantom single type build. The Camouflage scheme was a temporary one from Red Flag March of 1983. The Squadron along with Phantom's of both the USN & USMC wore similar schemes in similar colors. The next Phantom is a Hasegawa 1/48 F-4EJ. It is an F-4EJ # 87-8407 from the 306th Hikotai in aggressor markings from Komatsu Air Base in 1982. This was built for the 1980's Asian group build. I do hope these both meet to your liking. Please feel free to ask questions, comment, or pass on your thoughts ? Dennis Build logs:
  5. Well it's bright and it's done. This is my second Hasegawa Phantom depicted as a jet (37-8322) of 302 Hikotai based at Naha Okinawa in December 2008. It was specially painted to commemorate the transfer of the unit to Nyutabaru after 24 years on the island. The aircraft was scrapped 3 months later in March 2009. Lessons Learnt Not all Hasegawa Phantoms are the same. Even though the Sprues for the Wings (sprue L) and Fuselage (sprue J)are labelled the same there are 2 different versions of the same sprue depending on the boxing. As such I really should have used the F-4EJ Kai boxing, which has the proper fuselage and wings with the correct antennas. My biggest disappointment was the Wolfpack resin nose. I wasn't happy with the depth of the lines /detail so I re-scribed it, and didn't do a good a job. I'm not sure what it offers over the kit nose to be honest. A close second was the True Details Pylon's, The engraved detail in these is pretty fine (non existent) and also needed re scribing. Thirdly was the colours chosen by Model Alliance for the bright green decal text. It's nothing like Tamiya X-15, which seems to very closely match the green on the actual aircraft. Enough rambling, onto the details The Kit 1/48 Hasegawa RF-4EJ Recon Phantom (HSG 09923) Aftermarket Wolfpack Nose and Pitot True Details Pylons AMS Resin Intake Blanks Aires Exhaust Eduard PE Quickboost Seats Royale Resin Wheels SAC Landing Gear Decals Model Alliance and Hasegawa for the stencils Painted with Tamiya Acrylics and Gunze Lacquers. Gaianotes and Tamiya Gloss coats Winsor and Newton Galeria Matt Varnish with some Dullcoate thrown in. Vallejo and oils for the details Weathered with Oils and Pastels. This is probably a bit underdone but I'd lost interest by this stage The Photos. More photos at my blog or facebook page Build thread is here
  6. Next build is a 1/48 Phantom. I'm going for a colourful JASDF F-4EJ Might chuck some aftermarket at this, but then again much of this may go back in the box. First problem - True Details details intakes. These aren't the full length but the idea to simulate the internal depth and make it a drop fit was good. Pity they are too short by 10mm.. I have 2 sets and they are unusable IMHO. Stay away from them is my advice.
