  1. McDonnell Douglas F-15E Strike Eagle, This aircraft took part in Operation Odyssey Dawn Libya 2011, Pics by David H.
  2. I have a question about the legendary "Gulf Spirit", mainly what color it was during the Gulf War. I have seen many modellers build it in the ghost gray and the Mod Eagle scheme but clearly it could have only been one during the Gulf War. I am nearly convinced that it is ghost gray but just wanted to confirm. Evidence towards ghost gray - The few pictures of the GW show it as ghost gray looking. However, I have to say that ghost gray and mod eagle look surprisingly similar in many photos, as lighting effects come into play. - Osprey's F-15Cs in Combat has it ghost gray - I have yet to see a GW bird convincingly appearing in mod eagle colors although a number of GW veterans apparently switched that very same summer (like the Bitburg birds) Evindence towards Mod Eagle - Lots of modellers seem to do it in this camo - Hasegawa's boxing has the 1991 version in mod eagle as well as the 2003 commander's aircraft (which I assume is the one in the box photo which is clearly mod eagle). However, the latter is a different airframe. Also, Hasegawa's instructions have the 1991 version with very few stencils which makes me wonder whether it had been hastily painted before the war. I figure someone in this forum has the answer

  4. Hello fellow modelers I would like to introduce my latest finished model. It is an F-15E from Revell 1/48. Kit I added resin from the nozzle Aires and RBF from Eduard. Perhaps you will like it
  5. Hi guys, Like the title says I am thinking of building an F-15D (probably an aggressor) and was wondering if I could use the excellent Revell F-15E as a starting point. If so is it as simple as leaving off the FAST packs and relevant aerials and adding those relevant to an F-15D. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Craig.
  6. Hi Everyone! This is my third and the last model for this year – F-15C in IDF service. In fact the model is not completely new. It’s the refurbishment of the Modelist kit (repack of Academy) that I assembled OOB some 14 years ago as the USAF’s F-15. I was never happy with how it turned out and was thinking about major overhaul for couple of years. The idea to do it as an IDF’s Baz gave me the necessary mojo. I stripped model of the paint with caustic soda (this procedure also helped to safely detach most minor parts), cleaned and polished canopy, removed upper front fuselage part to make improvements to the cockpit. Then assembled everything back. Aftermarket updates to the original kit included some Eduard PE and Quickboost chair in the cockpit and Hasegawa’s AIM-7E and AIM-9L (for some reason soda did not help to remove white paint from original missiles). Plus the key element – beautiful Isradecal set. It’s very nice – well-printed, readable stencils, allows to build any IDF’s Baz. But it’s over 300 decals and that is not including stripes on missiles. To be honest – decaling quality started to diminish after #200. And now I start panicking when I see ‘complete stencils’ sheets I reproduced F-15C #840 nicknamed “Commando” soon after the Lebanon war – somewhat in 1983. Therefore it has all 6 kill marks and earlier squadron markings and nickname style. The aspect I’m not really sure about is Sidewinders I know that IDF widely used Python 3 missiles during Lebanon war – however various sources give various information on what missiles were actually used to kill MiGs – some claim 100% Python’s, some claim that Sidewinders were also used Final decision to use Sidewinders was due to virtual unavailability of Pythons. Maybe sometime later I will get true Israeli missiles and replace those boring AIM-9s… It's a bit late for Happy Hanukkah and Merry Christmas – but just in time for Happy New Year to everyone!!! Dennis
  7. Hello fellow modelers, I wish you all the best for the New Year and a lot of completed models My next project will be the Israeli version of the F-15 countries. The kit will add photoetched from Eduard and resin from the seats Aires. Meanwhile I compose the cockpit, but it is not finished yet. Supplemented by a few etchings into the shaft gear
  8. Thanks Anton K55 (http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234989178-55th-all-japan-model-hobby-show/) but I think it's better to open a dedicated thread. 9. This is just a warm up for my Sea Vixen. Just to share some of my work before I jump straight in with the Vixen. (Which will hopefully be posted later today) I am planning on doing the F-15E Demonstrator 71-0291. Cheers Harrison Okay, have the right ESCAPAC seats ready for priming. Next, on to the rest of the cockpit and changing the spine of the aircraft. Hope this is better than my last post. Feel free to speak your minds. That's the only way I can get better. Cheers Harrison
  10. Photos are mine from the aircraft on display out side the American Hanger at Duxford.
  11. All 1/48 scale from the Russian Knight done in January to Rafale B finished yesterday in 2014. Have posted a majority of these before. Thanks for looking. New year resolution is flankers and more flankers! J-10B prototype
  12. Hello, as UK distributor for GWH, I was wondering if you have and information on the retooled parts that are supposedly going to be made available to people who have the F-15 kit: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=273138&hl=f-15&st=0 Do you know if and when they will be forthcoming and how they will be distributed? Many thanks, Andrew
  13. One more kit from my collection. This one was built about a decade ago, but suffered an accident last year, so I decided to dissasemble it and build it from the beggining. Paint was done with Humbrol 125 and fading using artist oils. The decals come from Revell and Academy, and the armament from other kits.
  14. Great stuff! http://player.vimeo.com/video/40935850
  15. Hi All, This is my first post on BM, but will have many more to come. I pretty much exclusively model 1/48 aircraft, but have been known to dabble in 1/35 armour. I know that 1/72 would solve my storage shelf problems, but I cannot bring myself to do it! I used the excellent TwoBobs Decals for this kit. I will probably begin my foray into 1/72 by building this same aircraft in 1/72 as the decal set comes with 1/48, 1/72 and 1/32 decals. I did add resin cans to the rear end, but didn't do anything with the cockpit. I probably should have as the kit version is very average... maybe next time. This Tamiya model was my first lesson that certain brand name does not necessarily mean excellent quality. After a lot of filler especially around the front end I am quite happy with the result. I think the blue colour is slightly off, but looks good nonetheless. Unfortunately I no longer am in possession of this baby as I sold my whole collection recently in order to move from Australia to Singapore. Looking forward to rebuilding a new collection here! Any and all comments welcomed. Cheers, Arthur.
  16. I just discovered that the new Eduard f-15e doesn't have the update sprues(from the OIF kit). See instructions http://www.eduard.com/store/Eduard/Plastic-kits/Limited-edition/Striking-Eagles-1-48.html Too bad really. edit: Academy OIF kit: http://www.cybermodeler.com/hobby/kits/aca/kit_aca_12215.shtml
  17. Revell 1/144 F-15E Strike Eagle Tigermeet of the Americas 2005 Built for the F-15 Single type Group Build, used Zactomodels resin parts for the exhausts and seats, Humrol Rattle can 27 for the main colour as Tamiya GS Grey was too dark for this scale and Humrol acrylics with the good old hairy stick. 18. Hello everyone, This was my "quick" (read long term) project for the F-15 STGB. Hope you like F-15 B ACTIVE S/MTD (2D Nozzles) Kit : Revell F-15E Strike Eagle Scale : 1:144 Decals : Some kit ones, Dragon F-15/F-5 Aggressor and home made. 19. Hello one and all, This is my first GB, hope I don't cock it up! Anyhow while I wait clarification about "What-ifs", I post what I wanted to do and then what I will be doing if not. First one I wanted to do was a plane I used a lot when I had my old PS2 out. It's from the computer game Ace Combat Zero : The Belkan War (I know the two main aircraft in this game where F-15C's but I am not doing them... yet) its called the F-15 ACTIVE, as far as I am aware there was only one of these aircraft made and is now retired. It was used for lots of experiments and was also the first aircraft that I knew of that had thrust vectoring nozzles both 2D and 3D ones. Well here is the scheme I wanted to do, from the game. I must apologise for the crappy picture, but you get the point. Here is the actual "squadron" I will be doing and the aircraft. I do not own the artwork and I have no idea whom to ask either, but originally it belongs to Namco-Bandai. Not much in the way of stencils there, but I will see what I can source from my spares. Also I think that middle fuel tank should be a gun pod as the gun was removed for the canards. If anyone is looking at the canards and thinking "Hang on... they look familiar!!" It's because they have come from an F-18's horizitonal stabilizers. I had to check that one up on NASA's website, even I didn't believe it! The only thing I am going to have difficulty with is, the squadron badge, triangles/bars and the star. If you are wondering why the markings on this fictitious aircraft/country look like the ones used by America, its because in the game, Osea is based on America. I am planning on making my own decals for this one also. I need to learn a few things for this one before I can decal it. Now if this isn't allowed I will be making the proper version of this plane that NASA flew and will be building this one in the background for fun. I will be using the great Revell 1/144 F-15E Strike Eagle (what the original was made from), and also I will be using the Zactomods upgrade set as well as the Retrowings sets (once they arrive). In a stroke of pure planning greatness (or pure fluke you decide!) I already have the F-18 canards from when I made my F-18D, the Retrowings set for the control surfaces came with spare horizontal stabilizers but I never used them. So I will be using them on here. I will post up the bits as and when they arrive. I am hoping it will be soon. Kind Regards, Dazz
  20. This is a little post for mark73 really, I will do this one as a little side project to the two ACTIVEs or S/MTD's havent decided yet. Well the first shots are of the box and the bits. Look at the flash on those buggers and the left intake is missing half of its roof!!! Might just scrap the F-15 and keep the missile... hhmm... Kind Regards, Dazz
  21. Ok then, in at the deep end. I am going to attempt to build the NASA F-15B #836 from the Dryden Flight Research Center, as it was during 2006’s Gulfstream Aerospace, Quiet Spike research project. Here's a photo of the real thing (hope it's ok to post this picture as believe it or not, I didn't take it). I will be using this 1:48 Hasegawa TF-15 Eagle Bicentennial Bird kit. I’ve not taken sprue shots as I expect that many of you are pretty familiar with Hasegawa’s Eagles. To go with the kit I have ordered a set of NASA decals via eBay but they’ve not arrived yet though. So still crossing my fingers that there’ll be some appropriate sized NASA logos on the sheet when it arrives. I’m in the process of getting hold of some further decals for the ‘836’ on the vertical stabilisers and the Gulfstream logo to go on the spike. And finally on the decal front I’ve just ordered some gold stripe decals by Microscale via Hannants. I’m hoping these will do for the gold edge to the blue sections as I really don’t fancy trying to mask and paint them. Then, arguably the most important feature of this aircraft is the spike and this I have 3D modelled and had printed at work. Just got it this afternoon and I’m quite happy with it but it’s definitely going to take some careful effort to get it nice and smooth. And as for fitting it – shudders! Finally, I will probably get some Aires exhausts (turkey feather type) to replace the kit ones. Not bothering with AM seats as I’ll be going closed canopy. This project is likely a bit much for a novice modeller so I do have plans B, C and D (which used to be plan A) for in the event of this going to pot. (Sorry if I've been a bit wordy)
  22. Seeing the recent 1:32 Silent Eagle built up, it set me thinking whether there's yet a kit or an AM set for those that would like to build a 4.5 gen jet. I could be tempted to build one at some point
  23. 1/72 F-14A Tomcat (Tentative) 1/72 F-15E Strike Eagle (Tentative) listed here: http://www.tamiya.co...12THS_index.htm
  24. To those (anybody?) eagerly awaiting the follow up to my earlier on of the British protoypes in January apologies for the delay. I got involved in designing a website for the local branch of a national charity. With that, the P1040 and spring finally appearing in the garden the follow-up took a back seat. Anyway I hope you like them but first a consumer warning. Some go back a long way - hopefully my modelling skills have advanced in the meanwhile John First the Americans Douglas D558-I Skystreak Anigrand resin, not the best of kits. Tail surfaces were very inaccurate and replaced by scratch built items Douglas D558-II Skyrocket Anigrand resin, not terribly impressed with this kit either. A pity as it was one of my favourite a/c. One of my model club members recently produced the Hobbyboss version and it looked ‘right’ whereas mine doesn’t Bell X-1 Hobbycraft kit – awful decals and I didn’t dare attempt to paint the canopy! Lockheed F94C Starfire Emhar kit. I think that there is something not quite right about the nose of this kit. A pity as I used to think that this was a most impressive a/c and I really wanted to model it. Douglas Skyray - No it is not the prototype but it was one of the many weird and wonderful efforts of the US Navy in the fifties that culminated in the Phantom. Tamiya kit - Why can't everybody produce well moulded kits like this? Convair XFY-1 KP kit. Quite a nice but heavy panel lines and undersize decals North American F107 Trumpeter kit. This went together with little trouble except around the intake but for some reason I had dreadful trouble with the paint job. Don't look too closely (Oh yes you will won't you!) Then a grandchild broke the nose probe! I wish all Trumpeter kits were this good. McDonnell Douglas F15 Hasegawa kit. Went together well but kit was old when I got it and the decals were a nightmare to separate from the backing sheet This seems to be a problem with old Hasegawa kits Lockheed YF22 Dragon kit. Some problems with sink marks but otherwise OK Northrop/McDonnell Douglas YF23 Italieri kit General Dynamics F16 XL Monogram. One of my most recent completions. The rear fuselage does not have the uptilt of the a/c. I also suspect the a/c wing may not be as simple as the one in the kit. I was unable to find anything to verify this. And now some Russians Yak 23 A simple KP kit. I didn’t know it was a prototype until recently I found a picture of it in the book ‘Early Soviet Jet Fighters’ Mig 1-44 Zvezda kit. First time I have made one of their kits and it went together well. Only real problem was that the colour scheme had the upper and lower colours reversed Su 37 Revell kit. Went together fairly well with a few issues with the fit on the front fuselage and around the intakes. It wasn’t clear (to me anyway) from the instructions how the boundary layer bleeds fitted and of course I got it wrong and had to correct it. And finally a French one SO Trident II Mach II kit.
