Evening all, After having made few visits to RAF Lakenheath over the past couple of years it was inevitable that I'd end up feeling the need to add a couple of Eagle's to the collection! Only things still to add are a couple of AMRAAM's, and I realised I've missed the nav lights, anyway here's my first effort at an Eagle - Kit: 1/72 Great Wall Hobby F-15C MSIP II Decals: Kit decals and Caracal Models CD72074 - F-15C/D Lakenheath Eagles Paint: Tamiya, Vallejo and Vallejo metallic's Weathering: Windsor and Newton oil's, Daler-Rowney pastels Extra's: Tamiya tape seat belts I chose this option from the Caracal decal sheet as I caught a couple of photo's this very jet departing Lakenheath last August (see last 2 pics!). Well I can't compete with Sven's quality but I did luckily snag a few LA F-15A/Bs when I visited Nellis in October 91. We were outside the base and I believe this area is now inaccessible sadly. I don't think the 555 TFTS kept their Eagles for much longer after our visit and Luke AFB fairly quickly turned Viper. 76-0110 76-0037 77-0157 Cheers Malcolm

Hi, Just completed the 1/48 Academy F-15 im 32 TFS markings. Fitted with aftermarket ejection seats, exhausts and fod covers. Decals by Daco. Built was ok, but some trouble with the air intakes. Mr color paints and flat coat. Need to get a wider backdrop and a proper camera. Thanks for watching. That's all, back to my Thunderflash again...... Regards

Hallo again Now I will start the F-15 in 1/48. This will be a little longer modelling sequence, since I have many detail sets and accurate weapons for it. Beside that of all, I have so much literature about this a/c and know it very well from my own. I have seen it at the first flights, many combat sorties and on ground in the hangar for maintenance. Also in the museum. Since there are so many wonderful photos available, please use our walk around at the forum. Here you have hundreds of photos I will constantly refer to. It also exists a collection of flying photos from IAF aircrafts. It is a marvel book. Like Leonardo da Vinci, this photographer’s work may enjoy you. The link will be there. THE MOST WONDERFUL PICTURES OF AIRCRAFT The surface treatment of this model will be the outstanding challenge. Oh no, not because of C307 and C308 Mr. Hobby Colours, no not at all. Because how it looks in reality! I found a built report on the internet, which is would be my guideline. My Guideline Using Aires cockpit and nozzles. The airframe by itself is a nice challenge. For the modeler: I split it. Front fuselage with cockpit and rear main fuselage without rudders. Tailerons and ruder will assembled at the very end. Wing is separately during a long time. My aircraft will be the F-15 A Baz 689. Happy modelling

Hello mountain top masters and conversion guru's! I have a unique and likely simple problem. Last year I bought a very aged F-15A from Manila, Ph. I live in Cebu, Philippines. Anyway, when I opened the kit, all was there and seemingly on perfect order, save for one thing, the decals are the color of some smokers teeth, a very nasty yellow! Anyway, I tried the "leave it in the window, sun bleeching" technique. To my surprise, this actually worked pretty good, but fell short of where it needs to be, and still are unsuited for use with the kit. Next, I contacted the seller, who told me to contact Tamiya about the problem. For the longest time, I was unable to find a distributor to help me with the problem, but recently I finally found the right people to help out. So here is where we are at. Apparently the kit is no longer in production, and I realized that the C is a more interesting kit for me anyway. So, is a conversion possible, or should I just look for aftermarket A decals, and save me the trouble? On a side note, I also have the F-15E demonstrator, that is really a D aircraft dressed up as an E. This was not known to me when I bought that kit from the same store. Anyway, I would prefer to make a proper D out of that kit, anyone know what needs to be done to accomplish this conversion? I would prefer to buy a new E kit that is accurate, than make the demonstrator version. Thanks in advance, Anthony Convert to C or buy A decals? Here is the Hasegawa fake F-15E demonstrator. Can it be built as is, as a D, or do I have to change part to convert it properly, besides the decals?

F-15C MSIP II Update set, Seatbelts & Masks 1:48 Eduard for Great Wall Hobby Kit The new tool F-15C MSIP II was welcomed in this scale. Eduard are now along with some sets for it. Get what you want for the areas you want to be more of a focal point. As usual with Eduard's Photo-Etch (PE) and Mask sets, they arrive in a flat resealable package, with a white backing card protecting the contents and the instructions that are sandwiched between. Interior Set (49949) This set has one pre-painted fret, and one brass one. You get cockpit details, instrument panels, and side panels. Parts for the ejection seats, HUD, And canopy mirrors; as well as a new radar antenna for the nose, and parts for the avionics bay. Even tho Eduard list this as an "Interior" set there are then a host "exterior" parts including engine fans, internal parts for the air intakes, brake lines and links for the landing gear. There are new insides the landing gear doors, and parts for the main gear doors. There are also parts for the main wheel hubs. Zoom! Set (FE949) This set contains a reduced subset of the interior set (the colour fret) set, namely the pre-painted parts that are used to improve on the main aspects of the cockpit, as seen above. Whatever your motivations for wanting this set, it provides a welcome boost to detail, without being concerned with the structural elements. Seatbelts (FE950) This set contains one pre-painted fret. There are seatbelts, in the now familiar steel material for both seats. Second version of our first kit PE4801. Changed the way the assembly. Sets can be used with models of aircraft: F-15, F-16, F-111, A-10, CH-53, Swiss Hawker Hunter F.Mk.58. One set allows you to assemble four blocks, enough to equip such plane as F-16. For the F-15 will need two sets, and for the A-10 – four.

Hi, I finish few days ago new Academy F15E kit. I added Aires exhaust nozzles to this kit. I'm happy with the work, there were no bigger problems. Unfortunately I destroyed decals for weapons under the wings. I painted the model with Gunze and Tamiya. The new project will also be Academy:

Also it gives me a chance to get used to posting pics and develop my skills before the 2018 GB’s start. I am making this completely OOB and can’t imagine that I’ll be getting involved in any scratch building just yet. So, one with some pics! I forgot to take pics as I was working on the cockpit but have it fully assembled here. Here it is with seam lines filled and sanded. Not much work involved as the fit was great. Air intakes assembled. Quite happy with the sanding and filling to remove the seam before they were painted and fixed into the main fuselage. And last one for tonight, the main fuselage dry fitted. Will continue tomorrow. Thanks for looking and any advice would be great 👍

Ok, got another Gulf War question Some F-15Cs during the Gulf War carried AMRAAMs and as I understand it, usually just two in the inner rail of the wing pylon. This would presumably mean that this rail had the LAU-128 pylon rather than the older style. However, would the outer rail which had AIM-9s also used the LAU-128 or would have kept the older type? I presume at some point in the 90s all the rails were switched to LAU-128s but given that the AMRAAM has hastily deployed to the Gulf War, whether just the necessary launchers were switched too. Thanks! P.S. I could not find any F-15 Gulf War pic carrying AMRAAMs hence the question...

Just noticed that Sprue Brothers have the Hasegawa 1/72 NF-15B ACTIVE/IFC in stock. The Box photo shows it in NASA markings. When the aircraft first showed up at Edwards AFB it was as the Short TakeOff and Landing - Maneuvering Technology Demonstrator (STOL-MTD). I assume the Hasegawa kit has the stock cylindrical engine exhaust nozzles and some F-18 horizontal tails for the canards. Probably a lot of work to back date it to the STOL-MTD, but I'd like to try it some time. Here are some images of the aircraft arrival at Edwards in June 1989 - original configuration with two-dimensional vectoring exhaust nozzles and YAPS nose boom... Couldn't swing my camera fast enough! Note the canard actuator fairings on top of the intakes. At the Edwards open house four months later... 2-D nozzles replaced with circular nozzles and the YAPS boom is gone. Thanks for looking, Sven

Good day, colleagues! I present to you my first model of a modern theme. From the aftermarket I use resin chair and colored etched parts of the dashboard.

A labor of love that took a while to finish due to numerous mishaps (including have to completely re-paint the C). Here be two lovely Hasegawa Eagles in The One True Scale™. No need to go over the qualities of the Hase F-15 series. Best Eagles on the market despite the molds being nearly 30 years old! It is a testament to the quality of the originals that they are still better than anything built since. The F-15C is from the original 80s boxing while the Strike Eagle is from the newer "updated" set which despite being quite pricey (£25 on eBay from a Japanese seller) is a significant improvement over the highly inaccurate original E version. The new CFTs are beautifully molded, as are the targeting pods which are taken directly from one of their weapons sets. Everything fits like a glove. If you ask me, it is well worth the price and only option for an accurate E in this scale. My only gripe with the kits is that the engine exhausts are a pain to build and that there's hardly any rivets (except in the Strike Eagle CFTs). Some info on the two builds: F-15C This is Cpt. Cesar "Rico" Rodriguez from the legendary Gorillas (58th Fighter Sq), who shot down 2 Iraqi jets during the war and nearly a decade later added another to his tally in Kosovo. The markings were taken from an old Microscale set and the stencils from Two Bobs. Gunze paints were used in the original ghost gray camo and note that this aircraft still featured the old style hi-viz markings. A keen eye will note that I lost the canopy actuator. If anyone has a spare, please drop me a line as I feel that was the only error in the build. Also have not had the time to arm it with missiles so that'll have to wait (will post updated pics later). Weathering was done with Humbrol dark gray wash with some extra streaking in black and burnt umber below. F-15E There's a dearth of Gulf War Strike Eagle decals in 1/72 scale so my only shot at this was the Hi-Decal set which is pretty awful: they are thick, prone to silvering and the pilot names are unreadable. Also take a lot of Microsol to settle in and the yellow squadron band on the fins simply did not conform at all so I removed them. Despite having numerous Two Bobs sets in reserve, I stupidly chose to use the kit's decals for the stencils since the Hi Decals were quite thick already. BIG mistake: lots of silvering throughout which was really disappointing. Oh well. I'll build a nicer replacement one day. Aside from that, no major problems. This airframe (87-183) from the 335th Squadron (Rocketeers) has only a few bomb markings so it was logical to assume it was still early in the conflict when Strike Eagles could only carry dumb bombs. So I used the kit supplied Rockeye cluster bombs for a full load. I added at LITENING pod anyway even though this would be inaccurate. I also accidentally painted the Rockeyes olive drab when they probably were white. Because I used the kit decals, the yellow band is also inaccurate since it is just yellow when during the war it had white stripes. Sue me! Painting as done with Tamiya XF-24 which I think is the most accurate representation of FS36118 in acrylic (Gunze is way too light and does not have a bluish tint). Was given a black wash with similar weathering to the C. Quite happy with how they came out so enjoy the pics
