  1. F-106A Delta Dart, 72-502, 101st FIG, Massachusetts ANG, during William Tell 1980 weapons meet. The kit is 1:72 Meng Models and was rather nice kit with good details. You could have built this with missile bay and radar open and comes with extra missilles and a missile carriage but I made this almost closed up to make sure the nice lines are visible. Basically no weathering apart from soft panel line wash to show it's near mint condition (I haven't seen a pic of F-106 in dirty/bad condition). And I thought as it was a plane to be sent for the William Tell weapons meet, it would have likely be seen some extra care before the event. No aftermarket apart from Master pitot tube. Painted with Vallejo acrylics and weathered with Flory Models washes (I made a mix from Grey and Dark Dirt). Decals by Experts-Choice. They were meant for the Hasegawa kit so the fit was not 100%, needed to do some adjustment by painting. Cool thing was that the USAF and U.S. AIR FORCE text are in dark blue as they should be and not black as they are usually printed in the decal sheets. Built for the Century Series GB but missed the deadline. WIP:
  2. Reini's Century Series - F-106A Delta Dart Meng's F-106 comes in a box twice the size of the same manufacturer's F-102 box - and it's stull packed full with plastic! And if possible, it also looks even better than the F-102 kit. As can be seen, the kit is started, but I think I'm safe to say that I'm still under the 25% rule? Kit comes with really nice looking decal sheet and excellent instruction manual. But I will be using Expert Choice decals - and I will be doing a Massachusetts Air National Guard F-106. The PE-set comes with the kit so in addition to the decals, pitot tube is the only thing I've bought extra for this kit. And twice, as it seems! So if anyone needs a 1:72 F-106 pitot tube, send me a PM The Six is the only Century Series fighter that I have not built before so this will be interesting
  3. Another one finished this time the 1:72 Hasegawa F-106A Delta Dart. Another old kit needing lots of filler especially around the wing joints and some rework to get the canopy and nose cone to fit, and missile bay doors that just kept wanting to fall off! This aircraft 72470 of Massachusetts ANG 102 FIW 101FIS "Cape Cod" (demonstrator at 1985 Copper Flag) build in San Diego and shot down as a target drone Feb 1994 over the Gulf Of Mexico by an AIM-120 AMRAAM. Tha just leaves the 1:48 F-102 Delta Dagger in the stash to build to complete the Century Fighter Series.
  4. Hi, Yesterday I got a bottle of AK Interactive paint from Alfa Hobby. It was AK 2146 and my plan is to use it for my F-106 as they where painted in Fs 16473 ADC Grey. I made an quick test of the grey and compared it to some of my other paints and paintchips. And found that it was rather close to what I think was Tamiya AS-18 (spraycan). So there we maybe have an quick and easy alternativ when it comes to paint the F-102 and F-106 ADC Grey... Cheers / André
  5. It is inevitable that when I join a group build with a big 1/48 project, I'll at some point begin pining for something smaller and simpler to work on as well. And let's face it, when it comes to aircraft, 1/72 is my preferred scale, even if I try to convince myself otherwise. And so here we go with Meng's F-106. Its much nicer than their F-102 (which I built for the Vietnam GB in 2020), and I have some really interesting decals to go with it. You've all seen this kit on several other excellent build threads here already, so I won't waste my time or yours with sprue shots and the like. Right now I'm working on the innards. Keeping it simple. Glued the wing together. Fit was a bit "meh". Test fit the fuselage, and it's also a tad meh. But easy as pie after the Monogram dagger.
  6. Hi there, The Yak-3 being nearly (99%) finished, it's time to tackle another box. Choice is made for an 1/72 Trumpeter kit, the twin seater F-106B. A very nice kit in my opinion. You can have a look at what's inside the box if you click here. I've not much books and documentation about the 106, but it doesn't really matter, as nearly everything I need is on this webpage. Here we go!
  7. EDIT - This build re-starts on Page 4 of this thread with an Airfix/Italeri 'combo' instead of just moving the wing on the Italeri kit in order to find a better B-57 shape. A dear family friend served as the Maintenance Supervisor with the 4677th Defense Systems Evaluation Squadron, which flew the B-57 Canberra, and I've decided that it was high time I built him one. The 4677th's Canberras acted as targets to train and evaluate USAF air defense squadrons, and were full of electronic gear designed to make them more difficult to intercept. It's with a bit of trepidation that I begin a Canberra build now, just as @Navy Bird has completed his beautiful PR.9, and the @canberra kid having just started an RB-57. But "strike while the iron is hot", as the saying goes. I'll be using the 1/72 Italeri kit in my attempt at an EB-57B as the "evaluator": And I think I'll build the 1/72 Hasegawa F-106 alongside as the "evaluated": The Canberra Kid has shown that the Italeri kit has some inaccuracies, the main ones being: the wing is a bit too far back on the fuselage, and the rear fuselage is too deep. I'm planning on addressing the wing placement, but I think I'll have to let the rear fuselage problem go, it would require splicing in the rear fuselage of the Airfix kit in order to fix - which is exactly what the Canberra Kid is doing on his RB-57 build linked above. I recommend that you check it out - fascinating stuff. Comparing the dimensions found in this drawing on the Canberra SIG to the Italeri fuselage, it looks like the wing leading edge needs to be moved up about 1/8" in 1/72 in order to match up (I measured from the leading edge of the horizontal stabilizer, since the drawing is of an 'A' model, and I don't think the nose is the same length as the 'B'). The (out of focus) Italeri fuselage: The section containing the wing root removed: [photo lost in Photobucket transfer] The offending portion removed: Plasticard backing added to the inside of the fuselage: The section reattached the requisite 1/8" further forward: Comparison with the unmodified side: I think it was worth it, but your mileage may vary! Thanks for stopping by.
  8. Hi there, F-102 & F-106 is looking to be a popular subject in this GB - which is no surprise as they are pretty cool airplanes I will join in with the Meng F-106: Box is literally full. Or bit more than full, all the parts don't really fit the box that well... I need a bigger box! It's a big pile of plastic. Not gonna take shots of each sprue... ... but just a detail shot showing the finely moulded panel lines - nice and crisp! Instructions and decals. But I will be using these aftermarket decals, 101st Fighter Interceptor Squadron of the Massachusetts Air National Guard´. That's a nice light blue that I will think look great. I just have to find a paint to match it as some of the details such as the insides of the airbrakes are painted with same/similar colour. Also thinking of getting the F-106 stencils by Fundekals as suggested by @Aardvark in another thread. Other aftermarket I have been thinking is the Master pitot tube (I'm always willing to use those, if available) and maybe the Meng resin sets but we will see. The kit looks pretty darn good as is. Thanks for looking in. Really looking forwards to building this bird
  9. A trio of Delta Darts of the 84th Fighter Interceptor Squadron out of Castle AFB, participating in Red Flag 81-2 at Nellis AFB, February 1981. Note the paint touch-ups on the tail around the Tactical Air Command shield - evidence of TAC recently absorbing (more like gobbling up) Air Defense Command. 56-0465 57-0767 59-0062 Thanks for looking, Sven
  10. F-106A Update set & masks 1:72 Eduard for Trumpeter Kit The new Trumpeter kit is a great kit, however that has not stopped Eduard from wanting to add their own brand of magic to the kit. Update Set (73631) Inside there are two frets, one coloured and one not. The coloured parts are mainly for the cockpit including a new instrument panela, sides panels, and various levers. Also supplied are seatbelts and ejection seat handles, as well as the seat pad, and parts to the side of the seat. For the rest of the airframe a new exhaust ring is supplied, as are canopy rails, the area behind the canopy; and gear linkages. For the weapons bay new side and front/back panels are supplied. New front & back panels are supplied also for the main gear bay, New main gear doors and a front gear bay doors are provided. The main door are quite complex in how they build up so care will be needed. If the modeller only wants the cockpit parts then a zoom set is also available. Full Set ZOOM Masks (CX509) Eduard provide masks for both canopies and the wheels. Review samples courtesy of
  11. After the 1/48th kits (http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234951973-148-convair-f-106ab-delta-dart-by-trumpeter-f-106a-f-106b-released/), Trumpeter is to release 1/72nd Convair F-106A & B Delta Dart kits. - ref.01682 - Convair F-106A Delta Dart - ref.01683 - Convair F-106B Delta Dart Source: https://www.facebook.com/TrumpeterModel/posts/527430964082168 CADs V.P.

Interesting images but no source... Just the topic title announcing a 1/48th Convair F-106 Delta Dart by Trumpeter. Prototype pics are from a F-106B. Looks like a Monogram kit revisited. Bad news for the similar (I mean the single seat F-106A) AvantGarde Model project. Wait and see. V.P.
  13. Hi all, I've recently received the simply beautifully moulded 1/72nd Meng Convair F-106 (I got mine at a bargain price from MJW models - excellent service too)! It knocks the old Hasegawa kit into a cocked hat in terms of detail and moulding quality. The kit comes with a full suite of missiles AND the Six-Shooter gun pack that was introduced later in the F-106's service (replacing the AIR-2 Genie missile). It's the first time I've seen the gun pack in kit form so I'd be keen to use it. My question is this, when was the gun pack introduced into service? Was it applicable to all aircraft in service after its introduction or did only certain units get it? If so, which units? I'm sure the BM community can help me out with this. I'm in the middle of studies so I'm not in a big rush for this information, in fact I'm unlikely to get around to this one until 2018 at the earliest (I'm planning on a couple of Mirage's for this summer's study break).

  16. Some nice stuff, the PZ IV looks impressive. https://www.facebook.com/TrumpeterModel/photos/pcb.365946200230646/365945470230719/?type=1&theater
  17. Classic Monogram kit, great details, need for scribing, and the fit disgusting!
  18. And for number 2.......... Ok this GB is for what could be described as the start of the golden age of US aircraft design from the 50’s to the early 60’s, the “Century Series” aircraft. A bit of something for everybody here with the main types everyone knows and a couple of experimentals for those who like to be different! F-100 Super Sabre F-101 Voodoo F-102 Delta Dagger XF-103 Thunder Warrior F-104 Star Fighter F-105 Thunderchief F-106 Delta Dart YF-107 Ultra Sabre XF-108 Rapier XF-109 Sorry the F-110 Spectre was renamed/numbered F-4 Phantom and the F-111 Aardvark is a bit too late. As for the F-117 don’t ask! I think probably everyone has one of these in there stash, if not they’re easy to get hold of and there’s tons of aftermarket stuff to keep all sorts of builders happy! 1, trickyrich - host 2, Starfighter 3, jb65rams 4, hythe 5, Swamp Donkey 6, Mish 7, Julien 8, hgbn - co-host 9, Paul J 10, AndyC 11, Arniec
