  1. US Mk-84 Bombs 1:32 Brassin (632-075) - If you’ve fancied some heavier ordinance on you finished models, then you can’t get much heavier that the Mk-84, (at least in the 80 series of bombs). Arriving in the pretty standard blister pack the set has parts for two complete bombs. The casting is up to the usual standard, with some very fine details, such as the bomb lugs moulded onto the bomb casing. Assembly is nice and simple, as once the fins and bodies are removed from the casting blocks and cleaned up it’s just a matter of joining them together, then deciding what fuse type you’re going to fit. Fortunately Eduard provide three of each, as one of the fuse extenders is a little warped, but the other two are fine. There are two types of nose fuse, one short and one on a fuse extender, there is also the option of just having a plain nose cap for an un-armed weapon. Then it’s just a matter of adding the etched brass tail ring, painting, (any colour as long as it’s olive drab it seems), adding the supplied decals, and weathering as required. Conclusion As is becoming the norm for Brassin these bombs are really well manufactured. Great moulding, good attention to detail and an excellent addition to any modellers armoury. 2. Bell P-39Q/N exhaust set Eduard 1:32 (632-081) - The Kittyhawk P-39/N, reviewed HERE has already had quite a lot of etch and resin released for it from Eduard. They have released another set, containing a pair of very nice exhausts for it. The resin moulding is well up to the standard we have come to expect from Brassin and includes the connecting flanges and bolt heads which attach each exhaust stub to the manifold. Each stub is more indented than hollowed out, but with some dark paint it will give a better impression of depth than the kit parts, You could always open them out a bit more if you wish. Fitment is easy, just removed for the pouring stub, sand flat and glue to the model. Conclusion A nice simple addition that will add that little extra to your finished model. Highly recommended. 3. Lewis MkIII WWI guns 1:32 Brassin Having released the Lewis MkIIs last month, this month Eduard Brassin have now released the MkIIIs. They arrive in the now standard blister pack with the resin contents held in place by a nice slab of foam, while the etch sheet is sealed under a taped down piece of card. Naturally the quality of the resin parts is superb with some exquisite details. There will be the need for some cleaning up of the parts once the parts have been removed from their moulding blocks. As with the MkIIs the two guns are made up of the barrel and breech sections moulded as one, with the resin handle attached to the rear, along with a resin cocking lever, and ammunition drum. The etched parts are for the rear and forward sights. The differences between eh two types is that the MkIIs have cooling jackets around the barrels, whereas the MkIIIs do not. Brassin have also included four spare ammunition drums to add to the aircraft racks. Conclusion As with the previous set these two guns will make worthy additions to any 1:32 aircraft. Very highly recommended Review sample courtesy of
  4. Focke Wulf 190 Wheels and Main Undercarriage 1:32 Brassin As good as the wheels and undercarriage are on the new Revell 1:32 Fw-190F8 the seams on the tyres will take some careful sanding to completely remove them and thus probably a lot of detail. These new wheels come in the standard blister pack with two layers of foam protecting them. On opening the quality of parts really stands out. The tyres, with very finely engraved treads, the mains with radial treads along with the tailwheel which whilst having no tread the hubs are beautifully moulded with a more natural look than the kit parts and come complete with the manufacturers name on the sidewalls. Clean up of the wheels should be quick and easy as the webs holding them to the moulding blocks are very thin. Any excess left after removal will only require a quick swipe of a sanding stick to tidy up. Also included in the set are the inner hubs, with nicely rendered brake details and attachment holes that match the kit axles. The outer hubs have a finesse and depth to them that would be impossible to do in injection moulding. The hubs are on quite large moulding blocks for their size, but since they are on the rear of each item it’s just a matter of razor sawing them off and flattening them with a sanding stick. To complete the set Eduard have included a sheet of masks to aid painting. Meanwhile, the second set of parts, in a similar blister pack, contains a pair of replacement resin undercarriage doors which have a much better scale thickness as well as extra detail, the thin webs holding them to the casting blocks shouldn’t cause too much of a problem to clean up. The best bits about this set are the superbly produced bronze undercarriage legs. The casting is superb and appears to include all the brackets and clamps seen on the real items. All that is need is the addition of some brake hoses to complete the look. It’s just a shame that they have to be painted as the look really good as is. Conclusion The new Revell kit is a feast of detail in its own right, but the addition of these simple parts will not only aid the look of the undercarriage, without too much effort in cleaning any seams, but will also give increased strength to the undercarriage thus preventing them legs to spread and distort. 5. BigSin Russian Weapons for Mig-21PF/PFM/R Eduard/Brassin 1:48 To go with the new Mig-21 releases Eduard-Brassin have now released a set of Russian weapons to go with them. This BigSin set is contained in a smallish top opening box in the rather ominous black and orange colour scheme. Inside there are four different weapon systems each complete with their own decal sheets and etched parts where required. All these particular weapons have been released in their own individual packs, this set just brings them all together. R-35/AA-2 Atoll-A There are four missile bodies with the rear fins moulded on, four blocks of four forward fins, four launch rail adapters, four clear seeker heads and four resin covers, plus a small PE sheet and a large (for the size of the set) decal sheet. RS-2US/AA1 Alkali There are four missiles cast on individual blocks, five blocks of four steering winglets, and five blocks of four bullet-shaped fairings to be attached to the tips of each of the main wings. A block of four aerodynamic fairings that normally cover the rear of the missiles are also included S-24 Rocket There are two rocket bodies, plus a pair of adapter rails that will fit onto parts A13 and A14 of any of your Eduard Mig-21 kits if you are using them for this purpose. Additionally, a small fret of Photo-Etch (PE) brass is included for the exhausts of the solid rocket motors, and a small decal sheet containing stencils for both the rocket and its adapter rail, which are printed in black and red. UB-16 Rocket Launcher The last of the packs within the box contains two rocket launchers, each provided with an etched rear panel and a resin aerodynamic fairing for the rear of the pod. A set of Cyrillic stencils are provided in red. Conclusion This is a very useful set to go with the latest releases of the Mig-21 variants. Although I still feel that they should have been included in some of the larger limited edition releases rather than being sold separately, but that’s just me being cynical about business. All in all a got set. Highly recommended Review samples courtesy of
