  1. Well here she is... one of the smallest kits I've built but definitely one of the nicest to assemble. The Eduard kit had a great reputation and it did not disappoint! Front end was obviously hacked away to reveal the Eduard 1/72 Merlin engine kit, which also went together nicely and looks great in this tiny scale. Everything was built OOB apart from the aftermarket decals for MH434, and the whip aerial and removal of a pair of cannons. The kit PE mirror atop the canopy was the wrong shape, so I scratchbuilt a rounded version. Bit fiddly, to be honest, but I got there in the end! All mods were to represent the modern MH434 aircraft. Paints were Vallejo acrylic (RAF Day fighters set) - which airbrushed beautifully, only let down by some dodgy masking by me! A bit of oil paint and Flory clay wash weathering finished it off. I can't resist a bit of diorama photography, which requires some extra bits & pieces. The hangar backdrop is Noy's Modern Fighter Hangar; the RAF Coningsby backdrop is from, I believe, Coastal Kits...self-adhesive vinyl print which I mounted onto some foam board. Assorted small tool bits are 00 scale from Goodwood Scenics and the stepladder is from Rusty Rails - both model railway suppliers. The personnel are ReedOak figures - amazingly detailed, especially for 1/72 scale. Land Rover is an Oxford Diecast 1/76. If I've left any background info out, please ask... someone asked for a thread on how I do the hangar and night diorama photography, so if that's of interest, I'll cover that in the diorama section? In the meantime thanks for reading and enjoy some more photos, please overlook the deficiencies in the model but I think I'm reaching the limit of what my eyes (and tweezers) can achieve in 1/72!!! And finally.... a couple of shots with a one penny coin, to show the scale of the kit/accessories!
  2. I previously joined this GB with an Argentine representative from my "Sexy American Singles in South American Service" project, a F4U-5 Corsair: Sadly, I'm not confident I can complete it in time, but I still want to build something for the GB, so now I am beginning a Hellcat from Uruguay! I am using this Eduard 1/72 kit: It will be my first Eduard kit, and I am very impressed so far. I know there have been many of these built around here so I don't think I need to share sprue photos. This is the -5N (nightfighter) kit, but I am just building a -5 using these decals: Here are photos of Uruguayan Hellcats which will be similar to what I'm attempting to model.
  3. I wasn't sure if I was ready to commit to another group build after fizzling out on my last couple of projects. But I started slowly working on my F-6K and have really been enjoying it so far, so I've decided to share the experience. What's an F-6K? It's just a P-51D with some cameras (camerae?) Mounted in the rear fuselage. My goal is the build this aircraft from the 118 Tactical Recon Squadron, flying over Chengkung southwest China in 1945. A few obvious challenges await. Most relate to the natural metal finish. I'm also weary of Eduard's finicky new style decals. Especially over NMF. But I really want a mustang with some black and gold trim. So far I've only built the cockpit floor and radio deck. I still need to fold a little PE black box and add it, but this is where I left off tonight. Nice detail from Eduard, but nothing really earth shattering.
  4. Hi all This is Eduard's 'new' tool (not really that new anymore) Fw190A-8/R2 kit, built as a Fw190A-9 from SG10, supposedly found at Salzburg at the end of the war. I say supposedly as I've never managed to find an actual pic of it. The new tooling is a massive improvement on the previous kits and includes parts for a few other marques, as well as the 14-blade fan from the A-9. Colours are my own guesswork, including lots of unpainted areas, as was relatively common on late war Luftwaffe stuff. Anyway, hope you like the pics
  5. Eduard is to release a new tool 1/48th Sopwith Camel kits. Source: http://www.kitreviewsonline.de/eduard-pressekonferenz-in-nuernberg/ 3D render V.P.
  6. Morning all, thought I'd post the next major project. The Border Model Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.J Late with full upgrades by Voyager and Eduard. Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.J LateBorder Model | No. BT-008 Voyager Model No. PE351142 Panzer IV Series Fenders Dragon 60xx Series~Voyager Model | No. PE35187 Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.J (Last Production) Basic Set (For DRAGON 6575) Voyager Model | No. PE35458 I got this set as it has a couple of details that didn't come with the specific Voyager set above. German WW2 PzKw III & PzKw-Ⅳ later period - B metal trackR Model | No. 35041 Schurzen mesh Pz.IV Ausf. J Tamiya Eduard | No. 35595 Some of the sets are not specific to Border, but I don't think it will make any difference. I'll let you know through the build. Going to make a better effort for photos of progress than of late. Might look at adding the barrel option if I can find one, if the kit barrel doesn't. Have to say, finding anything there days is getting tough. Seems all UK sellers are not on the distribution list of many suppliers. So off back to the Marder IIIM rebuild until all this arrives.
  7. Dear fellow Britmodellers, this is my 1/72 Italeri A-26B Invader in markings of 416th Bomb Group in 1944/45. I added Kitsworld decals, True Details wheels, parts of the Eduard exterior set, Scale Aircraft Conversions landing gear, Quickboost gun barrels and self-made "clamshell style" canopy doors to represent a late production aircraft. Painted with Tamiya, Mr.Hobby and Alclad lacquers. Photos by Wolfgang Rabel. A full build review will appear in an upcoming edition of Phoenix Aviation Modelling magazine. Best greetings from Austria, Roman
  8. I have just finished these for the Fw 190 GB, all in 1/72. A-5, F-2 from Eduard and A-7,8 from Hasegawa. Aftermarked decals used on all. Cheers Jes
  9. Hello everybody, here I am again with my rendition of a VF-27 F6F-3 Hellcat. It has been done to death by others, but not by me It's the older kit, but I picked it up for a very good price and found no big problems with it. In fact, I used the F6F-5 fuselage halves to build another plane, one that has been used as spares donor and now awaits its final fate... I tried my hand at weathering the plane... ...partly because I didn't have a blue color dark enough for my uses... ...so I did some black washes (nothing to do with Highland Regiments). To create a diversion, I kept the right elevator lighter, maybe after a repair. Of course, I prepainted the ailerons upside down, and couldn't repaint it fully satisfactorily -at least on the port side. As always, the cell phone pic looks better - but I was okay with the seatbelt decals. and the frog belly. I am not an aftermarket man, but I keep everything, even PE sprues -they came in handy for the exterior fuel tank. the brush dance about exhaust stains. blast, forgot that little antenna on the back... The guns are trained ahead pretty well, it is an optical illusion within the (phone) camera that the port wing shoots at the viewer. It is easy to see that the fuel tank wasnt always the most fun part -as almost always the case with PE parts- because two of the straps twanged off and took a great deal of searching and letting hope go before reacquired. According to Eduard, this was one of the survivors of the sinking of USS Princeton. I cannot remember how often I crashed into that carrier myself 35 years ago in "wings of fury" - back when I didn't think much about machine-gunning japanese soldiers who screamed out as they got hit... good old Amiga times? Anyway, enough on this, as always I hope you had fun with the pics. Sincerely up yours, Johnny
  10. Hi all. here is my last work . The famous " Marge " P38-J from Richard Bong. I choose to build an operational plane, instead of the real plane of the museum. i had this kit in my stash with the peddinghaus decals , before Tamiya released his P-38J; so i've decided to buy the Tamiya for another purpose... I've been using some decals from Tamiya, Peddinghaus and the generic set of Eduard stencils for P-38. Each of decals were excellent quality. A big Ed to improve the kit, full riveting. A lot of work to get a good fit and here is the result. i'm pretty happy of her : and just for fun : the fork tail devil...
  11. Hi everyone As my A-6 is getting towards the primer stage I thought I’d make a start on my A-8. Ive gone for the Weekend kit this time and added an Eduard Space set as I fancied trying the 3D printed ip and side panels. The set also includes PE seat belts. I was going for this one which is from a previous A-8 build a couple of years ago. 9F7998CB-F92E-4EA2-A4C5-69396A3DC637 by James Halls, on Flickr But then these two came in the box. And I do like the late war scheme but not sure if my airbrushing is up to it. 28FBD982-F4E9-4762-BB9B-1B08A15923B0 by James Halls, on Flickr And this snake is pretty cool. 7BA39B97-2D1A-4907-9A84-3756ADE610B5 by James Halls, on Flickr Anyway, that’s all for now. Progress pics soon. Thanks for looking James
  12. Never one to shy from a challenge, here's my kit for this group build. It's better documented here at Scalemates. I plan to build it strictly oob, using kit supplied decals for scheme B which depicts a plane from 6./JG 1, stationed in Störmede (Germany in Spring 1944. Reichsverteidigung, jawohl. I'll scratch up some masking for the canopy. No airbrushes, acrylic paints, resin or photoetch will be harmed during this build. V-P
  13. I will be building this newer version of Eduard's FW 190 series of kits, their original series of FW kits were somewhat difficult to make and did not cover the early variants before the A-5. This kit of the A-2 will be, hopefully, just the first member of the Focke Wulf family I build in this STGB. I have several sets of markings I can use, unless I change my mind this is the aircraft I plan to build. All these Eduard FW kits contain four identical sprues, the clear canopy sprue plus three that contain all the other parts regardless of variant. Which means lots of spare parts. The fuselage, wings, p/e, masks and decals are different for each boxing, This kit has two wing options, the ones for version I plan to build with outboard canon are still on their sprue, I removed the spare ones to see if they fitted the Eduard D-9 kit, they do. This boxing also contained a pair of resin inner gear doors, I added a pair of resin early wheels and a set of Master brass gun barrels and pitot tube because they look so good. Everything is ready for the start date, roll on the 21st.
  14. Following on with a theme here, when I bought the Eduard FW 190A-3 kit one of the options for that model was for a 'hit and run' ship attack aircraft from 10 Staffel (Jabo) JG 2. As this kit has the new style decals that can be a bit of a problem, luckily I have some of Eduards older type that have an impressive score tally on the rudder. So I have 'obtained' another A-3 kit. These aircraft were armed with either a 250Kg or a 500Kg bomb and were used to attack British shipping in the English Channel. They were formed originally with Bf 109F-4 aircraft but were replaced with FW 190A-3's. The emblem they used on both sides of the nose was a brown fox with a ship in it's mouth. These original decals are labelled for an A-2 but this was an error by Eduard, A-2's were not equipped to carry bombs and they are identical externally to the A-3 aircraft. So what I have do is remove the outboard guns, remove the underside canon bulges and fit a bomb rack on the centre line. I have made a start, painting the undercarriage bay with RLM 02, the engine front was sprayed black and dry brushed with silver, I decided to try some Barracuda hollow exhausts. The cockpit was sprayed up with RLM 66 dark grey and detailed with the kit p/e parts. Here is a close-up of the cockpit just before I joined up the fuselage. Thanks for looking.
  15. This aircraft was flown by Ofw. Josef Heinzeller, as an experienced, older pilot he was allowed to display the artwork of his dog 'Schnauzl' on both sides of the engine cowling of his aircraft. He had a smaller artwork of his German Schnauzer on his previous aircraft, a Bf 109F-4. He also had the inscription "Old Shap" in English beneath the cockpit of his Focke Wulf 190, Yellow 13. It was obviously his lucky number because he flew from the start of the war, served on both the Western and Eastern fronts and managed to survive with a final score of 35 kills, after the war he emigrated to the USA. The kit I'm using is the Eduard A-3 kit, It's not certain if this aircraft was an A-2 or an A-3 as they are externally identical, the difference is the engine, the A-2 had a BMW 801C-2 engine, the A-3 had a BMW 801D-2 engine. Here is the kit box art and the kit contents still bagged up. Here is the artwork for the paint scheme and decals. Ready to start on this straight away, as it's the same construction as my A-2 build it should be much quicker. Any comments or questions are, as always, most welcome.
  16. Hi all here I present to you my first full build of 2023 It’s finished as F4F-3 (1850) 41-F-4 flown by Lt. Charles Shileds of VF-41 USS Ranger in December 1940 At the beginning of January I was undecided on what to build next so I asked my wife to pick a kit from me stash and to choose the markings! And my wife picked the Eduard F4F-3 Wildcat and chose the early pre-war markings i started this by the end of the first week of January. The only issues I had with the kit was the rather fiddly undercarriage I don’t know if it was something i did or something to do with the kit parts but I had a major misalignment problem later on in the build one wingtip was a good 4mm higher than the other and that’s when I noticed the misalignment of the undercarriage although everything was glued to where it should be so I had to shorten one of the undercarriage legs to get it to sit horizontally! Question I don’t know whether to give it a wash to accentuate the panel lines and rivets if so can any recommend what to use ? Paints used were mainly from the MR Hobby Aqueous and Mr.Metalcolor ranges and some tamiya acrylics the decals are of the new type from Eduard and I bit the bullet in peeling the carrier film off and I must say It went better than expected with the decals only lifting in a couple of areas. I throughly enjoyed this build from start to finish despite the aforementioned issues hope you like it and thanks for looking happy modelling
  17. 7 Hello everyone- this is my first post on this forum. I've been meaning to share here for a little while. I painted this using Vallejo model air and VMS gloss and matt varnish. I also used enamel panel line wash (grey) to accentuate detail. I had some serious issue with very feathered egdes during my freehand camo painting session. I now believe that this was PARTLY down to me not thinning correctly, but also, due to my 0.2 needle being bent or something, as I've since compared it with a brand new one and it sprays off centre! No idea why! Anyway, There are lots of mistakes but I won't mention them here... Anyway- I hope you like this and let me know what I should do differently on my next aircraft, which will be either: BF109 G2 or F6D/K (both from Eduard.)
  18. F-14D Exhaust Nozzles (648560 for Tamiya) 1:48 Eduard Brassin Tamiya's überkit of the mighty and much-loved F-14D Tomcat is superb, and Eduard have been bringing out lots of sets, with this Brassin set following up to further enhance the detail in the rear, where injection moulding can't offer the level of detail and finesse that resin can. Especially Eduard resin, which is amongst the best quality currently available. The set arrives in the usual black box for larger castings, and under the layers of protective foam and the instructions, you will find two ziplok bags, one of resin and one containing the Photo-Etch (PE) parts, which are further protected by a piece of white card. The trunking is quite long on the Tomcat, so is made up of two parts. The tubular section is covered with superbly detailed corrugations along its length, with the rear face of the engine inserted along with the delicate PE rendition of the afterburner ring, which is made up of three parts, and will need care in correctly assembling it, to which end a number of diagrams are provided to help. The trunking has attachment notches for the engine faces, and the exhaust petals flush fit at the rear by lining up the two blocks at the top. The F-14 is often seen with one nozzle compressed to its smallest aperture and the other relaxed, but this moulding has two identical open nozzles that have a full set of pre-cut kabuki tape masks (not pictured) that are applied to the exterior to achieve the pattern seen on the nozzles. It’ll take some time to apply, but the results should be well worth the effort. The finished assemblies slide inside the fuselage, and have the block on each trunk/nozzle to assist with alignment. Sympathetic painting will be the key to showing off these parts to their best effect, so spend some time researching the colours typically seen within the trunk and on the nozzles, making good use of the masks. Highly recommended. Review sample courtesy of
  19. Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird Update Sets (For Revell) 1:48 Eduard For the longest time the only choice for a quarter-scale Blackbird was the ancient Testors kit, which graced the boxes of various manufacturers over the years. It was flimsy, had raised details and was hard to build well, and harder to keep in one piece once done, due to the multi-part fuselage. Recently, Revell have brought their own kit to the party, with a completely new tooling, robust construction, and much more engraved and raised detail. Eduard's new range of sets are here to improve on the kit detail in the usual modular manner, and for a kit of this size, they’ll be brought out in stages. Get what you want for the areas you want to be more of a focal point. As usual with Eduard's Photo-Etch (PE) and Mask sets, they arrive in a flat resealable package, with a white backing card protecting the contents and the instructions that are sandwiched between. Undercarriage (481081) This large bare brass set contains some important upgrades to the landing gear bays, which while they have the basics moulded into the kit, aren’t fully decked-out for the detail hungry modeller. Work starts with the nose gear bays, detailing the two prominent cylinders with filler caps and a thick section around the middle of the tanks, while the opposite end of the bay is dressed with detailed skins on all sides. The gear leg is relieved of its moulded-in oleo-scissors and the actuator for the aft bay door ramp, which are then replaced by more detailed PE parts that will improve the look greatly. The other long bay door is replaced with a new PE assembly, adding thickness to the part with a lamination that holds inside it a set of louvres that you make up within a shallow frame, using the grooves etched into the sides as a guide, and the scrap diagrams showing you the correct orientation. The rear gear bay inner doors are built in a similar manner, although this time with three layers to depict the thinner section in the centre, and this then has a piano-like hinge added to its top edge and a number of pivot points for the kit actuator rams that are reused. The outer main bay door is retained but has the outer lip removed, after which it is sandwiched between two layers of PE, with a few small appliqué plates installed on the outer face. The kit part’s hinges are also retained to make installation easier. Engine Exhausts (481082) This large fret of brass replaces the moulded-in detail on the two large exhausts at the rear of the Blackbird. This detail is first removed by sanding or scraping inside and out, after which the two sides are skinned with individual segments of PE with details etched-in, lining them up as per the diagrams. The section further forward from the petals is also treated to an upgrade, but this time with no removal of detail needed. The two parts are first mated as per the kit instructions, then have the twelve skin sections glued to the surface within, all of which is duplicated on the other engine. Grilles (481083) This set is slightly smaller than the preceding two, and is filled entirely with replacement grilles that are found all over the upper and lower surfaces of the Blackbird’s semi-blended engine nacelles. The original moulded-in grilles should be filled with your preferred brand, then the new PE parts can be formed to fit the contours of the kit, and glued in place around the edges to give your SR-71 a more realistic and three-dimensional look. Annealing the parts before bending them will let them conform to the surface much more easily, and if you’re not sure what that involves, it’s softening the brass by heating the parts up with a flame until the brass discolours, then letting it air-cool rather than quenching it in cold water. 20. USN Ensign Flag - Steel 1:350 Eduard USN Flags (53202) This set is for any 1:350 ship/boat needing a US Flag or Ensign. They are in the new steel material so can be bent etc to make them look a bit less flat. They are double sided and come with eyelets to bend round to affix to your rigging. Review sample courtesy of
  21. Alright, alright, you guys have forced/persuaded/shamed/cajoled me into it. Yes, it is the Overtrees version of Eduard's Fw 190A-5 "light". But wait, what's this lurking inside? I thought the lid looked a bit "rawer" than the normal white box! No, there wasn't a bonus kit, too, but I might have to re-purpose the re-purposed top as a piece of artwork. I've downloaded the instructions for the ProfiPack version, as well as one or two other Fw variants, and begun to figure out which of the multiple choices (or boxes in the instructions) I'll need to go with. I had also already saved a bunch of photos of my subject aircraft. Today should be when "serious" messing with the kit commences. My intended subject, in case you haven't already figured it out, is the one brought to the United States and, at least for a time, put in the hands of the United States Navy, complete with some variation on an appropriate paint job. bob
  22. Hi guys, Another one of my S-199 from Eduard. OOB, but added some tubes, wires, foil. Stencil for the Stars of David cut out from yellow tape. Painted with Vallejo colors. Pictures... that's all I can get from my iPhone. Thanks for watching.
  23. Hi All, Sorry a bit late , This could end up French , or Israeli Air Force, The Kit . Again the Kit. the exter bits . Thanks for looking .Wellzy
  24. Looking at the Brassin bronze legs for the Eduard 109 they do two, 648308 for the 109F and 64309 for the 109G. But looking at the renders for them I can't see a difference. So does anyone know what the difference is and what versions they are applicable for? KMD do a set a gear legs for the Eduard kit which it's says for G-5 and later but these look different to the Brassin ones. https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/KLG4801EDU?result-token=sUz8k 308 309
  25. Decided to kick off another build in these long lockdown day's of April, as I'm at the painting stage on many projects at present and need some time away from the spray booth...So....had this in the stash for some time with a PE fender set from Eduard, and tracks from Friul. Hopefully will post first build stage sometime this week. Cheers
