Hello everyone, I thought I would share my Panzer II build. I’ll be building the Ausf. F in Afrika Korp colours and it will be my first time using PE, which I’m nervous and excited about in equal measure. After finishing the Tamiya M41 Walker Bulldog and having been extremely satisfied with the quality of the kit I was looking for something similar in regard to build and challenge. Every time I build a kit I always try to push and challenge myself to help me improve. So for this one I’m going to try my hand with PE from Eduard. Starting with the lower hull, there’s a few seam lines to get rid of but nothing too taxing. The exhaust will be the first part to receive the PE treatment and the difference that the detail makes is astonishing. I also gave the exhaust a small hole to add an extra layer of visual interest and detail. I’ve also taken an opportunity to fill in the holes on the base, I struggled a bit here but with a bit of sanding it came out looking ok. To finish the lower hull I put together the wheels and idler, which again there was no problems with. Before starting on the upper hull I wanted to get the turret out of the way. A small amount of PE again makes a huge difference. I made sure that I was content with the PE parts before removing the plastic. As the build is progressing, so is my confidence with the PE. I’m using VMS flexy 5K CA for PE glue which is working a treat. This build has taken a few weeks to get to this stage because of family and work commitments. It won’t be a fast build but I want to do it right and to the best of my ability. Thanks for reading if you got this far and I hope you enjoy following along! Tom

The Finnish Air Force purchased 12 iconic Hurricane Mk. I fighters and captured one Soviet Air Force Mk. II during the so called continuation war (1941-44). The unfortunate situation for efficiently using the Hurricanes was the lack of spare parts and the losses of planes for many different reasons. Thus the victories achieved were merely 5,5 of which 2,5 with the plane my model depicts i.e. the Mk.I reg. HC-452. This particular Hurricane is also the only one that has survived till today. It is now fully restored and at display at the excellent FAF museum in Tikkakoski, Central Finland. I built the Hurricane HC-452 from a Tamiya/Italeri kit which contained decals for the Finnish version. To be honest, the kit had surprisingly many issues of poor fit. For a Tamiya (Italeri ?) kit a lot of sanding and putty was needed. To make the model accurate as possible I corrected and added a lot of different parts. Some of them I ordered from the aftermarket and some came from my own spare parts box. I painted the Finnish camo with Xtracolor enamels and the replacement rudder (British camo) with Humbrol paints. The moderate weathering as well as the tear and wear were done with dry pastels, and Mig powders. This a photo I took of HC-452 when I visited the FAF museum in Tikkakoski in 2014

I will try my luck here with the (too?) early Mirage 2000 model from ESCI, when it still had the prototype fin. The rest look ok for an early series C model as well. (apart from the wrong wing sweep that I cannot alter that is...) The nosecone is also the one pre-radar, so it correctly has access panel lines there! Afternoon all.......while waiting for the group build in December I found myself eyeing my Sturmgeschutz sitting there all lonely....., and decided to set up to use it as interim gap filler when fed up with ongoing projects. My Centaur awaits mud and dust treatment, along with a T34/76............and well, not into mud at present. So I ordered all the PE and barrel and they should be landing over the coming week or so....burnt through my budget until the end of the year..., ah well.... Alright, joining this GB!! This is my third one - and maybe I'll finish before the end with two months to work in! At least I won't be cutting up the fuselage with this one! Starting with Tamiya's bubble-top Thunderbolt. If it even slightly similar to their Razorback kit then it should flow together like magic.😉 Obligatory box top and spru shots. As well as the PE and resin engine, I'm awaiting some after market decals to show, which hopefully won't be too long in the delivery, and I'm going to add some piping to the wheel bays For now, I think I'll start with the cockpit for a change of pace...

Valley Hawk T. 2 Well, it's time for me to delve into a WIP thread with a bit of 'proper' modelling. I bought a 1/72 Hawk and Tucano in the Airfix New Years' sale with the intention of doing a bit of a diorama including both of them. After seeing that my options for 1/72 extras for Tucs are limited, I thought I'd use the Tuc as a 'dress rehearsal' (test out the new airbrush & practice my filing and sanding techniques etc) and do something a bit more special with the Hawk. THE NEPTUNE P2V-7/SP-2H IN SERVICE WITH THE ROYAL NETHERLANDS NAVY: NAS=Naval Air Station NAF=Naval Air facility RNLN=Royal Netherlands Navy MLD= Marine Luchtvaart Dienst (Naval Air Arm/ Royal Netherlands Navy) On the 21 off august 1961, it was decided by the Dutch Ministry of Defense that the Royal Netherlands Navy was to acquire 15 Lockheed Neptunes air frames type P2V-7B. These aircraft were to be numbered 200/214. The reason for this acquisition was a large conflict with Indonesia over the Dutch colony Papua New Guinea. To strengthen the presence of the Dutch armed Forces in the region, the choice fell on the Lockheed Neptune. These aircraft were to be armed in the nose section with four Hispano 20mm machine guns. Eventually eleven aircraft were flown from Lockheed Burbank to Naval Air station Biak in Netherlands New Guinea. The chosen route was: Burbank-NAS Alameda-NAS barbers Point-NAF Kwajalein to Biak, a flight from more than 6000 miles. They were to form Squadron 321. Four Neptunes (209-210-211-2120) were flown directly from the factory to the Netherlands for crew training and evaluation. Neptune registration number 200, crashed on the 11th of May 1962 at the airport of Mokmer, after fire in the starboard jet-engine. On landing, it lost all hydraulic pressure and ended in a ditch. It was written off. In august 1962, the conflict came to an end. In that same year the Neptunes flew back from NAS Biak via Tan-Son-Nhut-Katunayake-Karachi-Basra-Athens and finally to NAS Valkenburg. Only ten aircraft were to return. After the return to the Netherlands, the strength was fourteen aircraft. All were posted to the 320 squadron at NAS Valkenburg. Eventually, the machine guns in the nose were removed and replaced by the transparent nose section and after further anti submarine modifications renamed SP-2H. On the 23 of January 1965, Neptune (212) crashed in the North Sea. It was then decided to increase the squadron with four ex- French Navy Neptune aircraft. These were numbered 215/218. To note: Is that the 212 was “hijacked” by two aircraft mechanics. After take-off from the runway at Naval Air Station Valkenburg, the 212 crashed in the North Sea. Both mechanics lost their lives. The Navy lost a very precious airframe. After this incident, you were shot without any questions if you got near the parked Neptunes. Taking part in many military exercises and patrolling the oceans in the cold war period In 1982, the last operational Neptunes were phased out and replaced by the P-3 Lockheed Orion. For thirty years, this beautiful aircraft did sterling service for the RNLN.The specific sound of the Wright R-3350 18 cil, accompanied by the Westinghouse J34-WE jet engines were over.
