Here's my offering...I checked with Scalemates and it indeed goes all the way back to 1973 and the first FROG kit. And I think I'll build it right OOB as the decals look alright...at least in register! Still in the bag... They look pretty good. Reasonably clean looking sprue... I'll get into it tonight. This will be a closed canopy job so I doubt I will do any fancy interior work. I think it's a tail sitter too, so some weight will have to go into the nose. And I'm not sure of the markings as there is no guide included with the plans. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! --John

In tandem with my ...slowboat... Shavrov Sh-2 build here on BritModeller, this marvellous example of Flash engineering hiding a Hansa Brandenburg aircraft within must be revealed as precisely what happens when your moulds become "cream-crackered". EE certainly knew the problem well, evidently, as does Roden. I have, then, for your reading pleasure, started this thing without due praise and/or reward because the H-B D.I was an interesting plane in its own light and the kit is becoming rarer now, most probably because nobody but me wishes to spend all day cutting through whole acres of flash. Hannants has a few left at the time of posting, iirc. The aircraft: Our HB D.I wil be: from Flik 16D, Serial: 28.30 flown by one Erwin Funk, a brilliant name that anyone would give their left Schwarzlose to possess. Here's a profile: (The angled gun is a typical Flik 16D modification as well as the enlarged windscreen, allegedly). I like the simple cherry coloured band on 28.30 because it ties in rather absurdly with a song from my favouritest indie popsters and, well, it gives me a go at smothering raw ochre oil paints over feeble acrylic undercoats; always time well spent in the life of a modern day artisan with his (or her) moustaches, fan brush and paisley cravat. Father Christmas delivered this.. I've always fancied a Canberra and this seemed an ideal opportunity... but then I started looking in the box (should've taken the money) Checking on Scalemates, it's safe to say that it's been round the block a few times, but seems to have started life as Frog and with a spell as Novo. Obligatory warped fuselage, and parts for two versions. As shown in the instructions (well, I think that's what they're trying to tell me) Mind all the parts as so crude that part 45 could equally be a hanging rail from an IKEA wardrobe! There may be parts, but only decals for one version... And even then only one profile. I think the painting is standard, and I'll figure out what goes on the other side. Flying Office Splodge-Blogg will be cluttering up the cockpit; this might be one time when it would be desirable to 'fog' the canopy! Despite all this, I'm going for OOB light relief (not a kit to be taken too seriously methinks), I'll go for reliving my childhood and throw it together. -
OK...to continue my "19 Squadron Static Build-a-Thon" I will use the TOKO/EE Sopwith Snipe to represent the RAF Snipe flown in Duxford, 1924. I have built this kit before (in White Russian garb) and it is not too difficult, except for the double bay biplane rigging...which is just arduous in the way that dentistry is difficult. This will be a pretty plane, silver with flashy markings. I will use the also-very-nice Model Alliance 'Wings of Silver, Pt. 1" sheet. Here's the well-known boxtop... ...and the book cover and profile with sprue... ..and the decal sheet. Very nice and I will be keeping these. Lots of very neat post-war looking aircraft here! So...I'll jump into this this weekend I think. No rush! --John- 54 replies

With the Rex done and the Rufe stalled on the starting blocks, I had an itch to scratch and 4 days of GB modelling time left. So the natural thing to do was start another build. I'll be seeing how far I can get through this by Sunday. Wish me luck Box- this is all the painting guide I have as the instructions are for the post WW1 Norwegian version: Sprues. Since it will sit on its floats I'll save time by ignoring the beaching trolley: Instructions and decals. I understand the lozenge is the wrong size, but it's all I have so will have to suffice: Andy Eternal optimist.
