  1. Afternoon to all our fellow Space 1999 Fans. Not sure if this belongs here in SciFi WIPs or 3D printing since it involves mostly the MPC plastic kit in progress. Been designing up parts initially and then getting sucked into designing the whole kit and caboodle instead. 🙃 The goal is to finish printing all the missing parts the MPC kit lacks to make it like I wanted to waaaaaay back in 1975... (and lighting the sucker up) Can you imagine how we all would have been as kids if we had this kind of tech in '75? 😀😀😀Doing the same on Bandai's 1/72 UFO Interceptor, always loved that show too! Designed in Tinkercad https://www.tinkercad.com/ and https://www.tinkercad.com/things/70AYzrmlnVg-space-1999-eagle-transporter and imported into an Anycubic Photon S resin printer for printing, and in Daz Studio just for fun because I miss that show! Tinkercad is super simple and easy to use and turns out some decent parts for you though it is primitive (and much easier) compared to the likes of other 3D design programs.
  2. I have been working on a personal project of a 3D model of the eagle transporter for a number of years - on and off - off mostly. With my acquisition of a 3D printer, I dug the project out again after a suggestion that my chosen printer was not good enough to print the model at the studio scale size of 44 inches. I like a challenge but after a bit of measuring i thought it foolish to create such a monster, my house is small, so I upped the difficulty and decided to go for a 33 inch size (roughly 1/32) as it fits nicely in the sizes of commonly made ET replicas and kits, and would fit on my shelf. after lots of printing, I'm ready to be showing images. A way to go yet but I finally see the end in sight. this is where I had got to at the end of the summer, since then I have been working on fiddly stuff like the cockpit interior, pilot figures and lighting. I'll post more images as I get chunks made. enjoy!
  3. This is my second built of this kit from Round2/MPC and I've thrown the book at it, with more lighting int he cockpit, landing lights on the front leg pods, red and green flashing navigation lights, plus added greeblie detail on the walkways, extra decals and a paint job with lots of weathering... The build thread is here http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235005434-22-mpcround-2-eagle-transporter-2/ ...and finally a better attempt at the video showing the flashing lights...
  4. I enjoyed building my first one earlier this year so much that I bought another! You can see my previous build here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234996587-mpcround-2-148-scale-22-eagle-transporter/ For this build I want to ty to do something a bit more special, so there will be lighting, fixes to the overlong springs, enhanced paintjob and decals and most likely a Emergency/Rescue pod paintjob. This build was inspired by my visit to the Smallspace show last weekend where I got the designer of the Eagle, Brian Johnson to autograph the box I carry the first Eagle model to shows in I'll not be following the constructin sequence of the instructions very closely this time around as I have specific things that need to be done to support my other plans. So to start with, I began with one of the leg pods. My plan is to mount white LEDs in the front two legs pods to act as landing lights... As you can see, this time I'm using some serious battery power which will be mounted in the passenger pod. This will feed power to the LEDs in the leg pods and in the cockpit. So once again I've put power socket into the joint to support the cockpit and the cockpit internal bulkhead has been painted This time I've used Tamiya BUff and Deck tan colours istead of Desert yellow and white as I did in the previous build/ It still needs some touch ups and of course washes to bring out the detail. Now the power supply this time will be a block of AA batteries. These need to be mounted in the passenger pod is a manner that they can be accessible to change without having to disassemble the model. There should also be an on/off switch... On/off switch working... how about accessibility of the batteries? Panel cut out of the base with magnets holding it in place. Up the other way we see the mounting for the batteries So back to the leg pods, I've had to chop some plastic out of the support brackets inside the walkway modules so that the wires can come out of the pods This still leaves plenty of support for the leg pods. The connection between the pod and the leg is via plugs that allow the legs to be attached later for ease of painting, as is shown here: The internals of the walkway module start getting quite busy once all the wires are added but testing showed everything is working... Next task it to arrange the electrical connection between the walkway and the passenger pod/battery box and then sort ot the rear leg pods. I have a slightly different plan for those, more of that later...
  5. The massive 22" Long Space: 1999 Eagle Transporter from MPC is now in stock and available to order! This impressive model kit is the latest addition to MPC's range of Space: 1999 models, complementing their popular Eagle 1 Transporter, Eagle Transporter with Laboratory Module and Moonbase Alpha models.
  6. I put in a pre-order for this kit with Hobbylinc back in August and it finally arrived in Mid January, so I had to start it right away! its a marvellous kit, very well engineered and the second pressing of it will be even better as they've fixed a few of the issues that hav ebeen raised by people building this first edition. Anyway, here are the photos of the completed model. It has a red LED in the cockpit to illuminate the figures. The battery is a 3v coin-type battery hidden in the front walkway section, accessible via a slot in the bottom. With its little brother courtesy Product Enterprises Battery panel: The engine bells etc were painted with Alcad metallic paints, so no ridiculous expense with aluminium bells for me! This was a superb kit, huge fun to build and no major faults as far as I was concerned. The Replicas Unlimited kit in the stash will be consigned to history now...
  7. My next project will be the Eagle Transporter of Space 1999 fame. I will always have fond memories of the first time I watched Space 1999 on our black and white TV, this was sometime in the 1970s, I was immediately hooked to this series by the opening sequence of the crashing Eagle and the title tune. From that day onwards I always wanted to have a model of the Eagle Transporter and yes I also had a crush on Maya. I never remember seeing this model in a toy shop, we didn’t have model shops in those days, and if I ever saw one, an Airfix series 6 model was certainly out of my pocket money reach. This model was always on my wish list. I must have been bidding on an Airfix Eagle for the past 7 years until I succeeded in having the winning bid only last month. I have read online that there is going to be a reissue of this model by a different company. A reboot of the TV series Space 1999 is also in the works this time in the not too distant future of 2099. Can't wait to watch this series. The Eagle Transporter The Eagle was supposed be put in production sometime in 1990, it was a joint project between Boeing, Rockwell, BAC, and The Vehicle Assembly Section of Moon base Alpha. It is supposed to be 150’ long, 60’wide, and 28’ height. The type 2 Eagle is armed with 2 Lasers and 4 space to space missiles. The Eagle transporter has nuclear propulsion engine, and a max range of 18 Billion miles. The Airfix Kit I have read a lot of reviews on this kit none of which were kind. The kit is moulded in white plastic and somehow looks rough. My first impression is that the cage looks horrible, I see a future of stretching sprue and burned fingers, before I start cutting plastic I have to study the plans better and start watching the whole series of Space 1999. As usual I will be grateful for suggestions, Ideas and any information one might have, for this I thank you in advance. Until the next time.
