  1. So on a Facebook group there is a group build for intel/Elint/ecm etc aircraft. Now I have already built a TR-1 but being a sucker for starting another build I dug out an EF-111A kit I got a while back. It’s a cheap Zhengdefu kit - a repop of someone else’s mould I presume? Anyway it looks like an EF-111 morning, or a Raven, or a Spark Vark, or whatever you prefer. The deadline for the group build is 1st December, so short turn around! The kit Had some Upper Heyford decals left from an Extradecal set I got to do my A-10 ages ago. They are for this one The kit panel has s pretty generic F-111 so a few screen mods & a consul in front of the right hand seat And painted & car tyre weight found Nose glued up & attached to the bottom of the back fuselage. Used a bit of balsa to iron out a slight inward warp on the back part Now judging by the comments on my post requesting info on under wing pylons there will be no tanks & I think I will only fit the inboard pylons. Might pose it with a sidewinder on the outside of the pylon even though they never flew with them. They did show them on the ground like that sometimes.
  2. EF-111As of the 42nd Electronic Combat Squadron, 20th Tac Fighter Wing out of RAF Upper Heyford at Green Flag 90-4, Nellis AFB, July 1990. 66-0016 66-0056 "Jam Master" 67-0035 Thanks for looking, Sven
  3. For my birthday, my wife got me the Italeri EF-111A. It's not the latest and greatest, but it looks cool, I'm not worried about accuracy, and I just want to have a good good time. So while I'm waiting on the glue or paint my MiG-29s to cure, I'm building this: The instructions tell you to put the instrument panel decals, but it looks like the guy in the decal department wasn't paying attention, or was about to quit his job and didn't care! The instrument panel decal did not match the shape of the panel, and there are no side console decals. I broke out some Reheat control panel decals to add some life to the cockpit: As you can see from the pics, they do not look perfect, but once it's closed up in the model with the canopy on, it should look alright: The F-111 has a large nose, so there is plenty of space for weight. Ordinarily I'd mix some shot pellets with plumber's putty, but I had misplaced the putty and did not want to waste superglue to glue the weights on the side. I came across an idea to make a weight pellet, with some plastic tube filled with shot: With both ends sealed, it should go on top of the wheel well: And here it is, glued to the wheel well with cockpit in place. The two surfaces were joined together with Faller Super Expert, on bare plastic, so it should make a strong enough bond to hold it up there permanently. The forward and rear fuselages have been closed up, but not joined yet. The way the front attaches to the rear is a bit off, and I need to clean up the seams anyway. That's it for now!
  4. Joining you with this Italeri EF-111A kit Kit cost me £15 for this and an Academy F15C Eagle, earlier this year at IPMS Avon show. For which I have these MicroScale decals for the prototype - costing £4. I cleared this project with Patrice in the chat thread, as the EF was a Grumman conversion.
  5. Time to stake my intention to build the 1/48 HobbyBoss EF-111A 'Raven' (but known as a 'Sparkvark' to me). Just over two years ago I completed their similar F-111A kit and in spite of my occasional shortcomings the end result was impressive. I know there are accuracy issues with the HobbyBoss offering however I can live with them and I am hoping that I can learn from my last build and put together a reasonable 'Sparkvark' model. I do have an Eduard F-111 engine photoetch set, also part of an F-111A Interior set. I also have an ancient Superscale EF-111A Lo Vis Gray Stencil data decal sheet and I will use this to supplement the kit decals. Will probably build 66-0013 operated by the 429th ECS / 27th FW out of Incirlik, Turkey in 1994. Not going to start yet as I am 2/3rds way through building the excellent Airfix H.P. Victor B.2 however as soon as I commence painting that I will start this kit. On to the photos: Michael
