  1. Three weeks to go and he's starting another one!!! Well, this time I know I'm unlikely to finish it in time. It's just that I'm in a Mirage frenzy at the moment. However, I have a lot of other GB-related irons in the fire and I know if I build it as an independent, it will get lost in the GB madness. At least this GB will give me structure for the first part of the build. I've never been too keen on the Mirage 2000. The 2000C has a weird sit-up-and-beg vibe which doesn't seem to fit its role as a warplane. But the 2000N and 2000D are a different kettle of fish. The canopy seems to be lower, giving the aircraft a broad-shouldered look. The tactical camouflage scheme makes it look very purposeful, almost as though it's a small Mirage IV. Hardly surprising as that's exactly what it was designed to be. This is the brand new Dream Model kit of the Mirage 2000N. Although the box top says "2000N", there are additional parts for the 2000D, which is the version that I shall be building.
  2. Finish no10 for the year is Dream Model's Chengdu J20 Mighty Dragon (beast mode), I got this from Hannants at a reduced price due to the box being crushed and when it arrived I found that the sprues had been warped but this didn't effect the result. Unfortunately the extra missiles and wing pylons supplied are resin printed rather than cast and broke up when cut from the print tree's, but fortunately I hadn't drilled the mounting holes in the wings. The kit also has some brass etch for the cockpit but I found this very soft and it didn't bond well so was discarded. The plastic used is soft and flexible until joined with other parts, without the main weapon bay in place the lower fuselage was particularly flexible. The canopy had a nasty seam that needed a lot a polishing to remove and at certain angles is still visible. I was hopeful for this kit as I was after the AH1Z Cobra but after this one I don't think I'll bother. Built OOB and painted with Mr Hobby Colour, I went for the splinter scheme as this is the less common one pictured. Not my best result for the year but ok from a metre, as usual all comments welcome. J20 is a big aircraft, much larger than the F35 I built earlier this year.

  4. I bought the new Dream Model 1/72 F-5E last month intending to build a USAF aggressor. But I now intend to do one of the other kit schemes which is the RoKAF in two-tone grey. Plenty of photos on the net of planes with the kit scheme but none of the one in the kit serial 05-460. Is the serial real; anyone got any photos of it? Chris
  5. History: The battleship Borodino was the lead ship of a class of five pre-Dreadnoughts built for the Imperial Russian Navy. Launched in 1901 from the New Admiralty yard in Saint Petersburg, she was intended as an improved Tsessarevitch, however the thickness and coverage of the armour was reduced. Main armament consisted of four 12 inch guns in two twin turrets, twelve 6 inch guns in six turrets, and twenty 11 pdr guns housed in casemates. Borodino fought against the Imperial Japanese Navy at the Battle of Tsushima alongside three of her sister ships, and was lost due to a magazine explosion after Japanese shells penetrated her armour. The Kit: The model is built using Zvezda's 1/350 Borodino; the wooden decks are by Artwox; etch is by Gold Medal Models with the exception of the lifebelts (Lucky Model), and the nameplates which are by North Star. The rigging is Uschi .005mm rigging thread. Thank you very much for looking in; the build log can be found here in the work in Progress section: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234980144-1350-russian-pre-dreadnought-borodino/page-1 Regards, Ross.
