  1. This is my Dragon 1/35 IS-2 that I picked up at Telford last year for £20. It goes together well & is quite uncomplicated for a Dragon kit. The figure is from Mini Art with a Hornet head. Any comments, criticisms & observations welcome. Pete Thanks for looking.
  2. Hi, I'm coming in with another one... Yes, I think I got the GB bug on me. This was actually my first plan for the Specialist GB, but the Tiger PAH-2 beat it to it. I brought this kit and a Hasegawa 1/72 CF-104 with me for my hitch in an offshore rig off the coast of east java. And I thought might as well sign up for the GBs here in BM. My plan is to build it as P-61A-5 NO, with "The Virgin Widow" nose art using the Kits-World Decal The night before I packed it, I sprayed some Mr.Color Green Zinc and Tamiya Yellow Green on the cockpit area and wheel well... Why? because it could be a bit hassle to paint in my cabin or my office. I didn't have the mood to start the build the first week here. But when I finally have the mood, I realize all the seats are wrong.. So I modified it a bit to at least look better under the canopy. cut, plastic stripes, and few bended wires later.... yes it not much, crude, and going to need filling and sanding.. but finger crossed it will look better than the original Cheers, Mario
  3. My entry for this GB will be Dragons Ju 88C-6 in 1:48 scale which came in a large Revell box. A while ago i have purchased the very nice AIMS decal set 4804 with six marking options for three C-6 dayfighters and Fitting for this group build three nightfighters. Also helpful for this project are two Eduard sets. One photo etched set intended for the A-4 bomber but most will fit in a C-6 cockpit as well. The second one is a masking sheet designed for the early C-6 cabin with two bulged B Mounts and the early windscreen. fits the black NJG 2 aircraft. Boxart. The two marking options are interesting as well. 2./NJG 2 with RLM 79 sandy Brown on the two tone standart scheme of RLM 70/71 and FuG 202 Lichtenstein BC radar 4./NJG 2 with a non standart scheme and the same radar. The AIMS set. D5+AV was the mount of Staffelkapitän Oblt. Günther Koberich with the FuG 202 Lichtenstein BC Radar and a slight mottling with RLM 75 over 76 and low vis markings. R4+BH of 1./NJG 2 in North Afrika. Black with a White fuselage band 4R+AS flown ( and wrecked ) by the Staffelkapitän of 8./NJG 2 Hptm. Friedrich Tober with a more intense mottling, FuG 220 Radar and two upward firing 20mm guns known as "Schräge Musik" Also on the decal sheet is a Ju 88G-1 3C+MP of 6./NJG 4 with a scheme for die hard airbrush guys. Enough for a start. Cheers Bernd
  4. Dragon's Fw 190D-9 has been replaced by the Hobby Boss kit, a much superior offering with much better fit all around. I had bought Dragon's kit in order to have Gerhard Barkhorn's decals. The kit itself has many moulding defects, big gaps around the fuselage/wing section (which is solved by adding a spreader bar aft the cockpit), the propeller blades don´t have locating tabs, the aircraft sits too high on its gear because of a manufacturer idea, it comes with steel PE parts which are nigh impossible to cut from their sprue with a regular hobby knife, etc... I decided to paint the model as Oskar Romm's aircraft, which in reality had the old Fw 190 canopy instead of the blown one. The model was brushpainted with what I thought were the Revell equivalents of RLM 82 and RLM 83 (Bronze Green 65 and RAF Dark Green 68).
  5. Which is the better kit, Dragon/DML or Eduard (old)(weekend) Fw-190A-8. If I go on a US website I get Dragon/DML, if I go on a Czech website I get Eduard. Now I would like to hear it from the UK crowd. I am looking at general fit and dimensional fidelity. They can both be gotten for about $17 here. I would like some justifiable opinions.
  6. A bit of fun since I have a surplus of red stars.
  7. For my first build in the GB, I will be building the other EA-6B Prowler from the two boxing set that @nimrod54 kindly sent me, after completing his in the Grumman GB. Shouldnt take too long to build, there’s only 2 stages in the instructions Just have a couple of build to complete in the Trainers GB before I get cracking.
  8. Hello all, This is my Cyber-hobby/ Dragon Bf-109E-3. I riveted and stressed the skin on this project. I used HGW seatbelts, Yaha instrument panel along with some minor scratch building in the cockpit. As per my usual I used Model Master paints. Thanks for looking. Rod
  9. With the bombing of the Japanese home islands increasing, the IJAAF was on the hunt for a newly designed interceptor capable of penetrating the fighter screen and attacking the bombers. When U-1224 arrived in Japan in February 1944 she brought with her plans and details of the Messerschmitt P 1101, a single jet engine interceptor along with their new stand off wire guided missile technology. With the coming B-29 raids on the home islands, the Japanese thought this was just the fighter for them, commissioning Mitsubishi to build the aircraft. The Mitsubishi Ki 90 Thunder Lord was only built in limited numbers, serving with the 520th Temporary Interception Group, the first to see combat with the new jet in March 1945. The group comprised of Senior flight instructors and the most talented flight students. Escorted by the groups Ki 84 Hayate's, the Ki 90 scored significant success against B-29 formations, being able to penetrate fighter screens with a 200mph speed advantage and stand off at a safe range while launching their X-4 wire guided missiles at the formations. Despite their success, there was never enough in service to change the outcome of the war. The kit itself is the Dragon 1/72 Me P 1101, with decals from the spares box. The kit itself goes together nicely and makes into a smart looking jet.
  10. Firstly Tamiya's Fw190F-8. I quite enjoyed building this one. Pretty good detail and fit. Finished in a mixture of Hataka, Xtracrylix and Vallejo paints with the kit decals 1. 2. 3. 4. Secondly a Dragon Fw190A-8/R-11 nightfighter. Not such a good kit. Some poor fit and over-complicated in places. Finished in RLM 74/75/76 in Hataka, Xtracrylix and Vallejo. 1. 2. 3. 4.
  11. Continuing the Luftwaffe fighters theme I've been building recently. Firstly the Revell boxing of the Fw-190D-11 which I believe is the old Dragon kit. Reasonable kit with only a few problems. Finished in Vallejo arcrylics as a JV44 example from 1945. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Next is the Dragon Ta-152H. Similar to the Fw190D kit this goes together fairly easily with only the landing gear posing any problems. Again finished in Vallejo paint with Model Alliance decals. 1. 2. 3. 4.
  12. Taking part in the recent PzIV STGB, I was persuaded to build a scenic base for my model. Comments and questions welcome
  13. This is my Dragon Panther A which has been shuttling between the workbench & the shelf of doom for over 10 years. I made most of it then decided it needed Zimmerit. I tried Milliput but wasn't too happy with the result. Back on the shelf, fast forward a few years & I bought some Eduard etched Zimmerit but had to remove all the parts I'd stuck on the hull - exhausts, pioneer tools etc. Back on the shelf again. Finally got it Zimmered up & re-attached the parts. I decided to go with a winter whitewhash & decided to replicate the application in the field. I used off white artist's Guache slapped on with a brush then scrubbed with a stiff brush to simulate wear. Sealed & weathered with oils, Mig pigments & ground soil from the garden. Can't say I'm uber chuffed with the results but glad to see the back of it! Figures are Alpine. Any comments or criticisms welcome. Pete Thanks for looking.
  14. This is my diorama of a first aid station. It utilises the Dragon SD.Kfz.7 Maultier ambulance, the Miniart Village Street and various figure sets from M&B all in 1/35. The village was damaged in 1940 and the war returns in 1944 as the Germans are driven out of Northern Europe! Hope you like it!
  15. A long time back, my father and I used to play board games by, amoung others, Avalon Hill. One of Avalon Hill's games was PanzerBlitz, which represented combat units at squad or company level. Amoung the most effective weapons, and my favourite, was the German Hummel, self propelled artillery - very effective at long range. I have wanted to build a model of one ever since, and now, maybe, I have a chance. Here it is ... ... one of Dragon's Hummels, an early version. Sprue shot ... There is a review and critique of the kit on the PMMS site, http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/dragon/dr6204.htm with detailed sprue shots. I think I'll start with the tracks, which should require less thought than the rest of the kit ...
  16. Hello! Here is an old build from 1995. It's my Dragon 1:144 General Dynamics (now Lockheed-Martin) F-16D Fighting Falcon. It represents 85-0572/SP, of the 480th TFS/52nd TFW, USAFE, USAF based at Spangdahlem AB, Germany in late 1980s/early 1990s. I recall making a series of small modifications to improve/correct this kit, with one major one: I replaced the awful intake part with one from an Academy/Minicraft kit. Thanks for looking and all comments welcome as always Miguel
  17. Whilst having a rummage through the stash for some 1/144 RAF aircraft, I found this Dragon boxing of a pair of EA-6B's and thought that I would make one up for this GB. Here are the box and content shots, whilst some the parts are off the sprue the kit has not been started. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr
  18. Grumman EA-6B Prowler, Bu. No. 163046 USS Dwight D Eisenhower CAG, VAQ-140 Patriots, Dragon 1/144 I failed to meet the Grumman GB deadline with this one when it finished a couple of weeks ago, but I finally wrapped it up yesterday by adding the scratched ram air turbines for the AN/ALQ 99 pods, which are not included in the kit, along with a couple of the missing aerials. Apart from the few additions mentioned, the model was built straight out of the box and is brush painted. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr
  19. Dragon is to re-release soon its 1/72nd Nortxhrop/McDonnell Douglas YF-23 Black Widow II kit (link 1 & link 2) - ref. 2507 Source: https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10594440 Box art 8 V.P.
  20. I'm finished with moving into my new modelling room, so I can now finally join in with this GB! My project for this group build will be using an old Dragon Kugelblitz kit from 1999. The Kugelblitz turret from this kit however has been earmarked for another build (Flakpanzer E-25) so I'll be using the leftover hull along with new 3D printed parts to make a Panzer IV Ausf.K. In 1943 during the development of the Ausf.H Krupp proposed changing the Panzer IV's hull to a new sloped armour layout. This change would have required production to stop while factories re-tooled for the new design, this came at a time when production of the Panzer IV had been ordered to increase though so the new design was cancelled & the Ausf.H instead only received minor upgrades. Krupp also proposed a new simplified turret design for the Panzer IV in 1944 that would have greatly decreased the the time & resources needed for production while increasing protection. Production of the Panzer IV was ordered to be stopped though, with only the Jagdpanzer IV continuing so development of this new turret was cancelled. The combination of Krupp's Ausf.H sloped hull & simplified turret is what is known as the Ausf.K, which is an unofficial "what-if" name used to help differentiate this design from the other Panzer IV variants. Before I start work on the kit I first have to design the the new parts for the conversion & 3D print them, so it might be a few days before the next update.
  21. Here is my Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23BN "Flogger H" which I built back in 1994. It was made combining a Dragon MiG-23M "Flogger B" with Italeri's issue of the Dragon MiG-27 "Flogger D". It represents 23172 of the Iraqi Air Force in the 1980s. The markings came from a Revell MiG-21PF kit and the numbers in arabic were painted with a brush. Part of the scheme was guesswork as I only had a couple of photos covering one side. The kit was fully painted with brush. Thanks for looking Miguel
  22. I've been looking forward to this build, here's my kit I've got some figures to go with her From Tamyia and Dragon. Not sure how I'm going to display her, I will keep you posted.
  23. Calling this one done! One of those kits that has so many spikey bits sticking out of it you dare never touch it:) Trouble free build aside from decals which had a yellowed a bit but a few weeks in the sun seem to fix them. Got the kit of auction site and it looked like it had a hard life so this one feels like a save too Hasegawa 1/72 kubelwagen and BMW motorbike also just finished so added them to the photo
  24. Hey guys, i would like to show you my last finished kit. It is the very first armour kit since i came back to the modelling 2 years ago (hell the time flies fast!). One would say it does not matter, planes or tanks.. and bigger scale should be easier to make, right? Well, from my view, there are differences and bigger scales does not mean it ll be easier to make details.. Anyway, the build was a lot of fun to me, so i think soon i ll have a look on the 1/72 tanks in my stash The Tiger II was built for my friend to celebrate his fresh new engineering degree - ordered by his wife to surprise him, so i hope he ll be surprised in good You can find the WIP thread h with aftermarket parts used ere http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234990910-tiger-ii-april-1945-weathering-stage-dragon-135/, but because i had only month for the build (working on it on the few free days during the month), i did not have time to take shots of every little progress there Anyway, part of the gift was some wooden base (supplied by my friend´s wife) - and it was quite huge.. So i decided to build two little grass "isles" on it, with some ammo boxes and other stuff, to fill the empty areas. Now to the tank itself At the beginning we said there wont be any interior (because of the limited time), so everything is closed. Also i did show some camo schemes to my friend´s wife and she chosed the late war scheme as the nicest to her. I did some researching around and like 30 King Tigers were finished in this scheme - sadly i did not find any photo of any of these, so the camouflage is kind of what-if (used Rom1´s E-75 as an inspiration, thanks! ). Everything of the weathering stage (or well, the very most of it) was new to me and i was also experimenting a bit with artistic stuff.. Well, here is the result more to come..
  25. Hello, I have the models stored for a long time. The kit made by Special Hobby is a copy of the one made by Eduard but more beautiful... But it will be necessary to prepare the pieces with care. Some eduard photoetched parts are directly molded onto the parts of the Hobby Kit. Obviously it will be this one. With a dragon and a green crocodile (neither white nor gray). Only 2 images (windsock datafiles) showing the cockpit ... This one, CIII or B II ? https://argonnaute.parisnanterre.fr/ark:/14707/a011490872320IXYATY/829de1c3f0 https://argonnaute.parisnanterre.fr/ark:/14707/a0114908723207BqTFP/747d88c39a On the floor (SH) I added the four boards (0.5x0.4mm).All the wood is painted with Mr Hobby's color (sail) and oil. The reservoir is Eduard's. The case, the throttle are in photoetched folded except the interupteur added. The chair is modified by gluing strips of plastic in and sanding. The steering wheel is made of metal wire, the pulley and the inside of the steering wheel come from the eduard photoetch. https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4779/39810278445_11d52cbeac_b.jpg[/img] The opening of the cockpit is refined. Both slots are missing. I will try to refine the wall and cut them out but I think it will not work ... Maybe by sticking a plate with the gills cut out ? I used the plan of the Albatros BII (wingnutwings) to make my cockpit. I'm sure of nothing. I replaced the black dials with white dials. I added an oil pump in brass tube and below a tube with a faucet. I should have glued the dashboard to the other half of the fuselage because the throttle cables must enter two holes on this dashboard... The box that carries the throttle is a little too low. The leather armchair. Of course it was too easy to put the gunner's seat under the hole ... I do not see what it's used for where Sp. Hobby put it. I moved everything so that it was not below the chair armrest and the tingles in front of the dashboard holes. The painting was damaged, obviously... The gunner's seat was moved forward by 5 mm: Now he can use it! I tried to paint the dragon to see if it was easy. I painted it on the eduard fuselage. Oil paint on a matte varnish and a brown background. The engine is almost finished. It is cut in the front and below to get into the plane at the right place. with engine spark wires: The wires are made of metal wire to make baits for "fly fishing". It's very fine. The fuselage must be sanded to remove too thick details. Some are almost 1mm thick and are not beautiful.Il will redo them. I sanded the traps that are on the nose of the plane. Eduard gives it in photoetching. It is necessary to resize the opening of the bonnet (in black) so that the hoses of the engine leave in the good place. Note that the closures of the hoods are very ugly ... I made plastic wire around the opening of the hood. I also sanded the bindings of the hoods to try to remake them. The pellets are a bit big (0.5mm) but I have nothing smaller. It will be necessary to add the spring on some. I cut with the saw in the hood a slot for the synchronization system of the machine gun. The rod and the hooks to carry the bombs are installed. We do not see them anymore or almost with the turret. A rod is put in place, it leaves the controller on the right side. The fuselage is glued. A whole evening of work to get the engine in the right place. No studs to place the half fuselages. The hole to get the bomb sight out is drilled in the floor and the fuselage. The photo shows the location as well as the plan in the Aerophile.. No image of the bomb sight. Can be one like this, a "Goerz". https://www.flightglobal.com/pdfarchive/view/1917/1917%20-%200939.html The turret is too simplified and exceeds too much of the fuselage. So I filed down to try to have flanks more "bent". I wanted a base like the picture, unfortunately the base of the turret is not circular so impossible to resize on a turn. I pasted a profile 0.5x0.5 underneath. The height of the turret is reduced to the scalpel. Not enough yet, the leather protection is in greenstuff. The turret does not exceed the top of the fuselage. I cut a very thin band to pack the wall of the turret. Then I cut it all around with a razor blade. The interior must still be a little arranged..It remains to stick on the handles, the stuff that exceeds and to the slot in the front for the machine gun. The bumps on the hood are added, pity they are not molded original. Their shapes are difficult to apprehend on the photos of time. At the bottom of the hood (on both sides) I engraved and dug the notch in which a tensioner (cable) will be fixed. A dymo band pierced with a hole and cut out serves as a model to engrave the outline, then one digs with the scalpel. The foot market is dug, a photo-cut will surround it. A tip, do it before closing the fuselage ... The red engraving is deleted. The one in green added. I found only a photo of the back of the fuselage where we could distinguish panels of different colors or possible brands of "rivets". Same for the flanks. There are really not many exploitable images. A lot of putty and sanding but nothing insurmountable. The shape of the fuselage nose is too sharp in my opinion. I sanded a little to make it more "square". I redid fasteners for stretchers. Two on each side. A shot of surfacing with the airbrush and a layer of paint that will serve as a background for the oil painting. The panels are painted separately but without drying between each panel (too long). I use a piece of tape to limit the start of the panel. The paint is burnt sienna. The lower wing. It's not too transparent I think. I have too much beige paint and the cross has almost disappeared. On the pictures of the plane the central plate seems absent as well as the tank on the wing. We see the sky through the wing ... In addition there is a tank under the wing that I had not seen: As on this BII ? If anyone has any details about his form, I will be very happy ... That's it, it's dry and varnished. The covers are painted in light green XF76 (if not gray). I tried to paint white oil paint to make the dragon and the crocodile ... it does not work, the white is not opaque. It will be decals... I have no picture of gunner's cockpit, only this plan: https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k65518819/f14.double.mini.auto=2 On the plan (p14) there is a small dotted rectangle noted "CASIER". It is at the level of the bombshell on the right of the fuselage. This could indicate the position of the ammunition locker. I think the gunner was standing too. P21 Windsockdatafile, the gunner is standing (He breaks for the photographer. The plane is on the ground). The crocodile in white is made with a stencil. It is then varnished and the fine lines are painted with oil paint. I tried (and I made a mistake by cutting the stencil that's why it's upside down ...): The dragon is finished: It remains to remake the varnish that was damaged under the belly during sanding. The crocodile has been modified with large scales under the belly. The hind legs (only one here) I put them a bit like everyone more or less random because there is no picture to my knowledge ... Well ... that's not the best idea I had. I have all varnish gloss with AK varnish to be able to correct errors more easily. Alas the varnish reacts badly to the solvent, and the white becomes ... gray. I had a layer of Klir that actually resists solvent better but is not indestructible. I repeated several times each stroke and the Klir was therefore damaged (at the level of the crest and scales of the belly) where the black drips. It is much more difficult than expected. There is no landmark in the all-white crocodile to place the scales and all the folds. Some are therefore misplaced. Cracks have appeared in the varnish, we do not see them with the naked eye but the solvent takes the opportunity to get in and everything is gray. I think it's the thick-layer AK varnish that was not dry enough to support the Klir.
