  1. After the initial Airborne and Seaborne invasion, the Allies got bogged down fighting in the Normandy countryside. The bocarge that the Allies faced favoured the defender, the way the fields were laid out with high banks, hedges covered with trees. Enemy and Allies were operating either side of hedges some times without even knowing. Stuff used: Tasca: Sherman Treemendus: Tree kit, Senic kit Miniart: British Tank riders Dragon: various German figures
  2. Happy Christmas all, i built this festive Sherman as part of the STGB earlier this year, thought I'd post it in the ready for inspection on Christmas Day. As it didn't seem right to do it any other time of the year.
  3. Hey all, Here's my M60 Patton from Dragon. I picked this kit up from TANKFEST 2017, i think? It was a few years back now... I built the kit straight away and quite nearly finished it but the DS Tracks drove me off, so it sat in a dark corner of my desk for a few years... Until now! I got sick of looking at it so I took a deep breath and painted up the tracks, () and fitted them, then went ahead and plugged a few antennae in. The kits out of the box with all of its beautiful inaccuracies, such as the oversized DS Mantlet. The guard infront of the machine gun cupola was way overize too but I convieniently 'lost' that part so instead this vehicles backstory is that it had a bit of an argument with a tree somewhere in Germany... I painted her using Tamiya acrylics, namely XF-62 Olive Drab, which is ordinarily a bit dark for me but seems to work well on 50s/60s US armour (or should that be armor? 😂). Weathering was achieved through various uses of oil paints thinned to be used as washes or dot filters. I also used some airbrush effects on the exhaust. Finally, just to add, the less said about the stowage rack at the back, the better. It was incredibly flashy and fragile so as you can imagine cleanup was complicated to say the least. In the end I gave up and milliput came to the rescue and I created some 'canvas' covers which hid a lot of the absymal basket. Additional stowage was from Tamiya. Thanks for looking! Also, apologies for the questionable lighting, I've recently invested in new photobox and I'm still finessing the lighting kit supplied. Sam
  4. Dragon kit (Dragon 6857): I added some missing details: 1) lever, pedals, spar on the floor 2) wiring installation tube I also made cable plugs and handles and making holes in radio rack dampers for radio hardware I added some missing bolts, sanding the left wall of the engine compartment to the real thickness (I want to make the engine compartment open), crumpled fenders and muffler. The details are glued into separate blocks that will be painted separately: Vytautas
  5. Hello, starting a new project, Sd.Kfz. 186 Jagdtiger - Henschel Production Type - Dragon - Nr. 6285 - 1:35 more picts soon
  6. I have decided to throw another Dragon Panther G into this GB. As can be seen, all the sprues are still sealed in plastic bags because I thought all the Dragon Panther G kits were the same plastic just different decals and p/e. However, as I was removing the turret from it's sprue I noticed that it is slightly different, it has the horse shoe fairing in front of the cupola for I/R attachment and marks on the turret sides for the camouflage attachment loop locations. The only other difference that I found so far is the kit has the larger late idler but the earlier one has been removed from the sprues. Always good to start a new kit, removing the big bits and making a start on the turret and hull. As always, Thanks for looking.
  7. I will enter the GB with this Dragon kit. Although the box art work must be one of the worst of the Panther kits that they produced, however, the kit is very comprehensive as it has the original wheels, plus a pair of steel wheels for one of the last dozen Panthers built by MAN and of course a full set of steel wheels. Here are the steel wheels. I have some extras in the stash, an Armorscale barrel with resin mantlet, ET p/e grills and tools and a set of Fruil metal tracks. Thanks for looking.
  8. If everything goes well with my other build & I can get though it quickly enough I plan to also build one of several different Flakpanthers that I have in my stash. I would consider this to be my main build for the GB but I'm unfortunately still undecided on which Flakpanther I want to build (make the GB 12 months then I can build them all! 😛), I'm also waiting on a few aftermarket parts for these kits in the post too. So while I ponder my choices & wait for the parts to arrive I'll work on my other build. I might start work on several of these Flakpanthers & just see which one grabs my interest, so this could turn into a bit of a messy multi-build thread too... Here are my options, I welcome any suggestions if any of you have a preference on which one you'd prefer to see built Panther Ausf.A, 2cm Flakvierling Takom kit with voyager PE set. Panther Ausf.G, 3.7cm Flakzwilling "Coelian" Dragon kit with voyager PE set & metal barrels. Panther Ausf.A, 5.5cm Flakzwilling Takom/Das Werk kit with Custom Scale resin turret. Panther Ausf.F, 5.5cm Flakzwilling (Rheinmetall) Tamiya kit + Trumpeter turret with voyager PE set, metal barrels & Bronco tracks. Panther II, 5.5cm Flakzwilling (Krupp) Amusing Hobby kit with Accurate Armour resin turret & Hobby Boss tracks. Panther Ausf.A, 8.8cm Flak 41 Scratch built lower hull with Custom Scale resin conversion & 3D printed parts.
  9. Hi guys, Hope you are all well. I just finished my Panzerkampfwagen IV build. It's a Dragon kit No. 6779, quite a nice kit, except horrible DS tracks that I replaced anyway with Fruils and a few minor accuracy issues. Following my Pz IA build belonging to Panzer Reg 5, I decided to to the same with this one. I decided to go with a tank number 812, one of the first vehicles that arrived in Tripoli in March 1941. This is the initial vehicle, not a replacement one. It is interesting that I was not able to find any records about when this vehicle was lost (it seams that it survived Operation Crusader and stayed operational well into 1942, making it a true veteran). I had to do some changes to the original kit, some were made due to the accuracy issues (for example drive sprocket provided in the kit is Pz IV E one), some to match workshop and upgrade changes made on tank 812. It also seams that 812 was a veteran of French campaign and that there were some refitting happening after that: changed position of Notek light, missing aerial deflector, rearranged tools, etc.. I also scratch built rear stowage, which is specific only for initial batch of Pz IVs belonging to Panzer Reg 5 . I also added some additional details, like tool clamps and some small PE work here and there. I used a few AM items: Fruil's early 36cm tracks, Blackdog's stowage, Bronco's canisters, etc. It's painted with Mr.Color RAL 7021, and than with LifeColor Giallo Sabbia Chiaro. Weathering is a combination of Mig's nature effects and pigments. I used VMS metal tracks blackening fluid for the first time... it seams ok. And some isometric on white background. A little bit of details. Model with filter applied simulating Panchromatic film: And the real one... patchy painwork on the model is a little bit less vidible than original because dust reduced contrast a lot. Same tank before it was re-painted. Thanks for looking and thanks for the feedback. Cheers, Nenad
  10. I've had these two kits in the stash for a while now,and i fancy a change from wingy things, These will take me through nicley till christmas at a steady pace, The mirror models cmp FAT looks a nice kit and comes with photo etch and resin wheels in the box, the dragon 25 pounder thats going to hang off the back of it looks good too, Cheers all Glynn The scheme I'll be doing and the resin wheels and pe oob
  11. My new project, although this is a slow burn as it has to contend with my 7 month old son! I'm building the M4A3E8 depicted in this photo below as its a bit of an unusual subject (photo used for discussion only). The unusual things that have attracted me to building this are the use of empty jerry cans as additional armour, the early style turret and the the angled plates on the suspension bogies. I've never seen this last detail in any other photos of HVSS suspension shermans or can find any information mentioned in books or online about their purpose. If any of the experts on this site know their purpose, please let me know! for the build I'm using the Tamiya easy 8 as the base kit but with numerous additions. The main issue with the kit for this build is that it has the late style turret with the oval loaders hatch so I've used a dragon turret from their M4A3 76 kit that I've previously taken the lower hull from for another project. I've also used parts from an eduard PE kit and a DEF model barrel. ive cut away the fenders, these will be replaced by PE fenders so that I can wire the cans to them. The footsteps are also missing on the original tank so I've not added these and will be adding details to this area. the original photo doesn't show the barrel style, so given that it has the early style turret, I've used a barrel with thread protector to match that and make my E8 a bit different to the usual ones you see. I've added the stowage rails around the turret to match the photo and used mr surfaced 500 to add the cast detail back in in the joins. I added the strange angled plates from pcard with some meng bolt heads. next job is the fenders to add.
  12. My most recently finished model is Dragon's Panzer Ib in 1/35. While this was in a smart-kit boxing, it wasn't as "smart" as some of Dragon's other releases of the last 20 years or so. Detail is very good, but not great, and fit was a bit problematic in spots. I wanted to try out a few new weathering techniques on this model, one of them being wet pigment application, and the other a sort of different spin on oil-dot filtering. The wet pigment experiments were not successful. Something about the pigments I used (Vallejo) was not allowing them to form feathered edges. Instead they came to abrupt edges where the pigment would stick, and the rest would just dust off. This is especially visible on the sprockets. I used heavy washes of light ochre and light tan colored oils to fix the mess. I actually like the effect, but I need to learn how to control it more. The topside weathering was done with dots of Naples yellow, tan, sky blue and olive colored oil dots, scrubbed into the finish with a brush dampened in thinner. Unlike my normal approach to this, I did each color one at a time. I also added a few paint chips, most of which you can't see under the dusty look left by the oils. I'm pleased with how this turned out, and I learned a lot that I'm looking to apply on my next project. Most importantly - neatness counts when you're making your tank look dirty. You can't just slap dust and mud on any which way.
  13. Hello friends, this time I have a great and well known kit from the Dragon: I wanted to build it from the mid 1990s when I first saw this kit at my friend’s house. It’s a typical Dragon moulding from 1992 with a very good sculpting and perfect artwork from Ronald Volstad. An artwork represents the four infantrymen in their very motley equipment and that’s the main reason why I want to put my hands on it. The painting guide on the back of the box: Actually, I don’t decided yet which paints I’ll choose: Mr.HOBBY or AK Interactive... The sprue with the soldiers and ammunition: Same, the other side: The little sprue with the weapons: And other side of this sprue: The weapons looks fantastic, I haven’t seen more exciting rifles and machine guns in the 1:35th scale. OK, let’s start! 😋
  14. Hi guys, I will try to build this model. It was a second hand box I bought last year at a show. When I had a good look inside I noticed that the original turret was gone and there was a resin one inside. Now isn't that a problem, the only downside was a resin gun barrel, that I have replaced with a metall one from RB models. I have also got a set of Friul metal tracks for it. I hope they will fit. Here is the content of the box. Hope to start it soon. Cheers,
  15. Here is my Italeri Mil Mi-24P “Hind F”, Red 23 of the VVS (Soviet Air Force). I built this one back in 2002. This was a reboxed Dragon kit. It was built mostly OOB. I added some details like aerials, the tailboom anti-collision light, tail bumper and undercarriage struts. It was all painted with brush except for the matt varnish which was airbrushed. The scheme was based on various photos of real machines as the back-of-the-box paint guide was useless (no pattern)! Thanks for looking Miguel
  16. Immediately after the end of hostilities in Europe, the allied powers scoured Germany for the remnants of their advanced technology. The American's set up 'Project LUSTY, which stood for LUftwaffe Secert TechnologY. Col Harold E Watson, a qualified test pilot was selected to head the mission. He picked a number of pilots, all combat veteran's and all Thunderbolt pilots, experienced ground crew, both American and German along with several experienced German pilots. He also carried a signed pass by Dwight D Eisenhower, stating that no senior officer or military police could impede him in his work. Two teams formed, one went after the piston engine aircraft, the other, jets. It was the jet pilots who were named the 'Watson's Wizzers' and adopted the squadron embalm of Donald Duck flying around the Earth on a Juno 004 engine. Me 262A-1a/U3 'White 30' was captured at Lechfeld. It was named Marge by the 54th ADS, and then Lady Jess IV while with the Wizzers with the aircraft being the mount of Captain Kenneth Dahlstrom. Declared surplus, it was transferred to the US Navy and designated 121443. State side, the aircraft was turned over to the Tactical Test Division at NAS Patuxent River where she was made airworthy and attempted to be flown on November 7th 1945. Failing to become airborne, it crashed into trees at the end of the runway and was subsequently written off. Because of this accident, no further attempts to fly Me 262's was made by the TTD. This is the 1/48 Dragon kit, which is the reboxing of the 1990's Trimaster kit, but this did not include any photo etch parts. The molds are still holding up well although there was some cleaning up of the lower wing required. These kits are well detailed but do require some work with the engine nacelles being a well known tricky part of this model. Test fit everything before committing glue and you shouldn't have too many problems. Decals come from Cutting Edge's Crossdressing Stormbirds and the seatbelts from Lions Roar.
  17. My dad wanted to build this now for a long time, finally he got to it. Using the old Dragon kit. Bought it second-hand some years ago. Decals aren´t usable anymore, so gonna use AIMS ones. 18. Dear fellow Britmodellers, this is my 1/72 Dragon Arado Ar-234 B in markings of 9./KG76, flown by Hptm,. Josef Riegler. I built with addition of Reheat photo etch, True Details wheels and Master pitot tube. Decals from Aeromaster "Arado Blitz Bombers Pt.1", painted with Gunze/Mr.Hobby acrylics. Photographs by Wolfgang Rabel. Thank you for your interest! Best greetings from Vienna Roman
  19. #13/2020 And another one finished. Started with Dragon´s "E" kit but then stole the engine from one of their Ju88 kits and built an "A". Eduard seatbelts added, EZ Line for the antenna wires and brake lines, AIMS decals for the main markings, Gunze RLM70/71 for the replacement wing and old selfmixed RLM76 with Tamiya XF-23 Gunze H314 and H2 and a not known anymore light grey. Build thread here https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235068862-baby-blitz148-junkers-ju188a-2-rächer-iikg6/page/2/ Model shows an aircraft of II./KG6 which took part in Operation Steinbock, also called Baby Blitz by the Brits, and flew nocturnal raids over England. 20. Another one I finished some time ago: The (very) old Dragon Pz III M/N kit no. 9015. This one is finished as an Ausf.M at the time of the Battle of Kursk. German armour is not really my thing but I've always liked the look of the Pz III's and IV's with the Schurzen fitted. As ever, hope you like it and all comments/criticism welcome. Bandit 1250
  21. Dear fellow Britmodellers, here's my 1/72 Dragon P-61A, "Double Trouble" of 422nd NFS, built with Eduard photo etch, True Details wheels and Eagle Cals decals. Photographs by Wolfgang Rabel. Thanks for your interest, best greetings from Vienna!
  22. OK, this time something different. 1/144 Dragon A-6E with Retro Wings cockpit set and PaulusVictor decals. This kit is a nasty dog. In the box - it looks like 3.6 ...not great, not terrible. Unfortunately it is more terrible than great when you start it. Fit is very bad, and there is a lot of details missing. I tried to add some that are really visible. The most important is small hump behind the canopy... Some small intakes too. There is a lot of sink marks in the plastic, and many missing panel lines that needs to be rescribed. I will try to make decent wing fold. I used Tamiya Epoxy Putty for all these stuff so far. I made FOD covers because the intakes have wrong shape, and I will scratch pilot steps to make things more interesting. For now - I have two coats of primer and some polishing done - but there are still some surface imperfections... There will be more to show soon I hope. This A-6 is TRAM Intruder, but with old type metal wings and late type air brakes - real Frankenstein
  23. Another model I rescued off my shelf of doom, one of Dragon's older models, the Hetzer. It started life as a flame thrower but I bought it second hand from someone who had used that part for something else and included a resin conversion and metal barrel for a conventionally armed machine. I initially put this on the shelf of doom as it was before magic tracks, so I had to cut out and clean up about 200 track pieces. I guess I burned out on the model after doing that and it sat in the stash for years until I pulled it out again a week ago. Other than the tedious track link clean up, the kit is pretty good. The colours and markings represent no machine in particular. I kept the weathering fairly light, a grubby wash and some dirt here and there, enough to make it look used.
