1/72 Fokker DXXI Danish cannon armed Version
AltcarBoB posted a topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
This is the first of a series of 1/72 monoplane fighter aircraft I am planning to work on that were built as paper planes, as prototypes, or limited production by the 2nd Division European powers. I have always been fascinated by the oddballs, never weres and didnt get a chance aircraft. So far I have in my little stash from the Netherlands Fokker DXXI, Koolhoven FK58, Polish PZL 50, Yugoslavian Rozogarski IK3 and Czech Avai B35. More will be added to the stash as I spot them online. Fokker DXXI by MPM a short run kit of the Danish Airforce prototype cannon armed version. It wasnt successful as the pair of big heavy Madsen 20mm cannon were too heavy for the 645hp Bristol Mercury XIS engine, even though the Madsens 20mm x 120mm ammunition packed a real punch. The sprues are quite clean with only some small flash and ejector pins. I built the cockpit carefully painted it and found out it didnt fit and needed some serious emery stick action. The fuselage halves and the panel lines matched quite well but the lower wing didnt want to fit and needed some very careful work with a scalpel I am still not happy with the fit of the rear of the wing. The wing tops also needed some work to fit against the fuselage and I have had to do some filling. I wanted to cut the undercarriage legs so it would look like it was on the ground with the oleos compressed. I drilled down through the legs with a 0.50mm drill bit then cut a section out of the legs and glued it back together with brass wire to add strength. Hi, Denmark was using few DH-90 Dragonfly before war. There are many photos of all silver painted in net available. However - were the camouflaged during German invasion, or they stayed silver? I suspect, that they should be camouflaged in 1939, as Hawker Nimrods or Gloster Gauntlets. Are there any photos of camouflaged Dragonflies available? It would be an interesting marking to consider for DH90 which I am doing on WIP forum. Now I am planning to do rather a Netherland's one. BTW - are there any interesting British WWII camo for DH 90? Regards Jerzy-Wojtek
