  1. Here's my kit to throw into the "Specials" ring. I've got a couple of other things on the go but will do bits & pieces to this as & when. Saw this at a show a couple of weeks ago & thought, you don't often see this one so had to have it. It will also fit well with some other previous builds especially my "cartoon" Czech MiG-21UM. Those Czech's do like their special schemes!
  2. Here's me with my funny MiG-21UM. I say funny as it has quite comical artwork, reminds me of the artwork by the Eduard Bunny cartoonist whoever that is. I've had this in the stash for a year now & purchased the Kopro decals to go with it, great that this MiG-21 GB has come along. On first look, the details look nice & fine, loads of fine rivets. I think I'll be building this completely out of the box & I'm happy with decals for the seat harnesses. We'll see how it goes. Wings of wood, bricks for undercarriage & taped together! Here's some pics...
  3. OK, well it's finished. Taking the pics has shown up a few areas that need finishing and tidying up but this is basically it for now... It's been a bit of a marathon due to work getting in the way, but on the whole it's been quite fun and if it wasn't for the sheer size I'd probably start on another quite soon. The parts fit however in some places is pretty horrendous especially around the cockpit glazing/fuselage join, the rear clamshell doors and the two halves of the fuselage. The lack of interior detail is also disappointing; I did have a go at making some seats etc., but it didn't go well really but I was quite pleased with the cockpit area(most of which can't be seen!) Some parts have disappeared or just didn't make it to the final assembly due to their sheer fiddlyness and my monkey paws, such as the windscreen wipers(I really can't get on with PE parts🤨) but as it's not going on public display it'll sit on a shelf and remind me what could be done better next time... Talking of sitting on a shelf, this has proved a slight problem when taking pics. This thing is huuuge! I bought some white card to act as a background for the pics but it proved way too small and I just don't have anywhere at the moment to take decent pics so apologies for the quality😔 Anyway, any comments gratefully received; I think I already know where things could be improved on or done better but happy to hear any criticism... For starters, here's a linky to the WIP thread: This is what it should look like: It is/was the CZ AF main display Mi-17 so at shows it's cleaned up, but other pics of it in general day to day use show it quite grubby with exhaust soot etc., Pic was taken by me at Pardubice(CZ) in 2013. ...And here is my version of it...
  4. 8 Z-142 primary trainers are operated by the Lom Praha company at their Flight Training Center in Czechoslovakia. Lom Praha conduct basic and advanced flight training for the Czech Air Force. I bought this months ago from Hannants on special offer for less than £3 as part of a big order. When it arrived I was surprised by the size of the box, I had to double check it was 1/72! I'd never heard of Hobby Boss, let alone seen one of their kits in the flesh but I must say I'm impressed with this little beauty. It's a bit hard to make out the detail with it being mostly clear but it does look rather good, the cockpit needs some attention but other than that it should be a nice easy OOB build.
