  1. Wow, can't believe how quickly this group build has come around! I'd like to enter with this; An (in)famous part of USAFE, controversially based at Greenham Common and Molesworth in the 1980s. It'll be something a bit different to join my USAFE collection anyway! The decision to house US BGM-109G Gryphon Ground Launched Cruise Missiles at UK bases led to huge protests, and especially at Greenham Common, the establishment of a women's peace camp. This actually stayed (in diminishing numbers) until 2000, despite the last missiles leaving in 1991, and the base itself closing two years later. I've not visited Greenham Common yet, but I have been to Molesworth, and a public bridleway borders the former GAMA (GLCM Alert and Maintenance Area), with its large, grass covered bunkers, and watch tower still in place. So, on to the kit. I'm not familiar with Model Collect, but it looks a nice kit. Not particularly common, I picked this up off Ebay for £30, a couple of years ago. Quite a few parts, considering it's 1/72! Some photo etch (eeek!!), which will be a new experience, plus some totally superfluous decals. As the truck is a MAN, I'm guessing Model Collect have done another version that was actually used by the German Army. Nice looking instructions (just a sample here, as they are fairly extensive); So, Greenham Gryphon or Molesworth Missile? Actually it doesn't really matter, as the vehicles carried absolutely no markings whatsoever. What does matter is the MERDC camouflage scheme! I've got quite a few photos of these TELs, which will help a lot. Won't be getting started for a few weeks anyway, as I've got two other GB builds underway, plus we're on holiday for the first two weeks of April!
  2. Something different for inbetween... ...as a test for the modifications which the kit parts need to come closer to an AGM-129, I built one of the six in the B-52 kit included missiles as inflight modell. The AGM-129 was a strategic long-range cruise missile, successor to the AGM-86 and the first cruise missile with stealth technology. According to the START-II agreement, stealth missiles were not allowed to be carried by stealth bombers, so the weapon was only used on the B-52H. The missiles were equipped with nuclear warheads between 5 and 150 kt. The originally planned deployment time until 2030 ended in 2012 as a result of disarmament treaties. The parts from Modelcollect match the shape of the AGM-129 very well, unfortunately, as with the B-52H, some details are missing. In this case, these are the air inlet on the belly, which supplies the jet engine, and the large flap on the back, which hides the two folding wings. The base shows White Sands Missile Range, don´t know if any AGM-129 was ever fired there.🤷‍♂️ Daniel
  3. AGM-154C Block II (672176) 1:72 Eduard Brassin The AGM-154 is a medium-range cruise missile, or Joint Standoff Weapon (JSOW) that is air-launched from a distance that saves the launching aircraft from having to engage with the target position's defences. It glides to its target from up to 17 miles at low-level launch, and 68 miles at high altitude launch, with a 1,000lb payload in a compact form factor. The wings fold back for storage and carriage, and deploy once launched to improve the weapon's glide-slope to the aforementioned levels. The C variant adds infrared for terminal guidance after using GPS to find the target, and carries a single two-stage warhead that improves penetration by a fraction of a second so that the 2nd charge blows through the initial damage. There are two missiles in the pack, with resin parts for the body and wings, plus PE for the fins. A small sheet of decals for the stencils is also included. The wings are separate, so can be posed open or closed, and they are then covered by a top-section, which has one of the two suspension lugs on the top. The horizontal stabilisers are added to each side into depressions in the missile body, and the four diagonal vanes fit into similar depressions for a good snug fit. The colours are called out in Gunze codes as usual, and decal placement is detailed on the painting diagram for your ease. These are highly detailed units and recommened if you want to add them to your chosen kit. Review sample courtesy of
  4. Hi everyone, Here is my humble attempt at Revell's Northrop Snark cruise missile, manufactured at the weird scale of 1/81 in order to fit in their standard box at the time. Box design was Revell's History Makers series (early 1980's), although the tooling dates back to the late 50's! I had anticipated an horrendous built with warped fuselage halves, flash everywhere and lots of filling and sanding, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The main fuselage went together quite well and although some filling was required it was no more than you get with far more recent kits. And the launch frame and other components were relatively flash-free. I did miss a couple of ejector pins holes on the yellow launching frame (see photo) but what the heck: after multiple coats of yellow paint on the original bright "Post Office Red" plastic, I wasn't going to go back to them. I was a bit concerned that all the decal's white stripes and lines would not come out well on top of the bright red colour of this missile, but things did not turn out too badly. The decals, though, were old and showing their age (1982) starting to yellow slightly and were very fragile. Needles to say, copious quantities of setting solution were employed to get the decals to lay well over all the embossed rivets and other detail that aircraft/missile kits of this age exhibited. This was reasonable successful but less so in some instances. I'll leave it to you to judge. The decal and paint scheme was for the prototype version of this early cruise missile. Production units were painted USAF SAC grey. Comments, both negative and positive, welcome! Cheers Steve
  5. going to to this cruise missile (maybe THE cruise missile?) which got fame I think during the first Gulf War/ Operation Dessert Storm and was used since in nearly every conflict the US or UK where involved. (any other users?) BRENGUN brought out a very nice resin version of this AGM this year, and as I usually build in 1/48 that was a reason to buy it! (although it is not an aeroplane and has no fancy paint schemes and does not appear at airshows...) so here whats in the box: very little, its a very small and easy to build flying object some PE and decals. and display trolley is also included missile parts with booster (for ship or submarine launch?): concerning DECALS and paint scheme and markings: there are hardly any pictures of LIVE Tomahawks around. anyone has any? I only encountered a grey camouflage one, with kind of darker top side and lighter grey underside, with a weavey demarcation line... markings?
