  1. SUU-7 Dispenser with & without Extension Tubes (648477 & 648478) 1:48 Eduard Brassin The SUU-7 munitions dispenser was used extensively in Vietnam against the Viet-min, and were often seen under the wings of F4 Phantoms. They look like a rocket pod, but are fitted with the exit tubes to the rear and the pods remain on the pylons during and after the mission, to be refilled with various types of bomblets to go out again. They're a simple type of cluster bomb, and had 19 tubes containing the bomblets, which could be phosphorus, smoke, or explosive fragmentation grenades of various styles. As is now usual with Eduard's smaller resin sets, one arrive in the new shallow Brassin cardboard box while the other retains the older plastic version, with the resin parts safely cocooned in bags and the instructions sandwiched between the two halves, doubling as padding. SUU-7 (648477) The set includes four pods with almost flush munition chutes at the rear, and a single plug fitted to the front where the unit was removed from its pouring stub. A sheet of decals is included for stencils in yellow and black and yellow "live" designation bands, including some of the smallest decals I've ever seen that are applied to the tubes themselves as a guide to the crews loading the bomblets. These are shown in detail by a separate diagram with the other painting and decaling directions on the front of the instructions. SUU-7 w/extended tubes (648478) Differing from the set above only by having the uppermost tubes extended, presumably to cope with airflow from the trailing edges of the carrying aircraft's wings, you get four pods with the little end-caps, and a different decal sheet with revised scrap diagram for the exit tubes. 2. SUU-30 (CBU-54)B/B Submunitions Dispensers – Early (197632) 1:32 VideoAviation Formerly known as Cluster Bombs, this Submunitions Dispenser is the early, blunt-nosed variant used in the Vietnam war in large numbers. They contained small explosive units that could be dispersed over a wider area, denying the enemy the area for longer by adding the fear of delayed-action fuses into the bargain. This set contains six dispensers in a clear clamshell package, protected by bubble-wrap and the folded instruction sheet. The front and rear sections are bagged separately, as are the separate shackles and decals for each item. Once the casting blocks are removed, the halves can be glued together, and a scrap diagram shows the correct orientation of the fins. The two lugs fit into their depressions on the front body section, and then it's just a case of painting and decaling them. The main body is Olive Green, and the stencils are shown on diagrams of the completed model, and you are advised to cut the large dashed rectangle in half to ease adding it to the model. That's it! Repeat six times if you're planning on using them all in one sitting, and give them a lightly distressed look from handling in the bomb dump. Review sample courtesy of
  3. SUU-30B/B Munitions Dispenser (648444) 1:48 Eduard Brassin Used in Vietnam before the Cluster Bomb Unit (CBU) was banned by many countries, the SUU-30B/B and variants were the first in-flight munitions dispenser used by the US and could carry hemispherical fragmentation or incendiary submunitions. As usual with Eduard's resin sets, they arrive in the familiar Brassin clamshell box, with the resin parts safely cocooned on dark grey foam inserts, and the instructions sandwiched between the two halves, doubling as the header card. Inside are four bomb bodies plus a choice of FOD cover or snub nose cone. The fins are PE, and are made up from a single half-thickness etched part folded over and with the finlets folded out to 90o to the fin. They then fit into grooves in the body and you must align them carefully. There is also a rear cover that fits over the cut-off mark where the pour stub was removed. Painting and decaling is covered on the front of the instructions with Gunze codes and the various stencils numbered for your ease. Review sample courtesy of
  4. Russian Rocket Pod, Submunition Dispensers & US Fire Bombs 1:48 Aero Bonus by Aires These sets are just what the doctor ordered if you're looking for some more unusual ordnance for your aircraft models, and want the highest detail possible from the packet. Aero Bonus are a subsidiary brand of Aires, so you know that the quality is going to be of the highest standard. Each set comes in a flexible flat(ish) pack very similar to the Quickboost packs we already know. B8V20 Russian Rocket Launcher (480033) This is a pod carried by the Ka-50, Mi-17 and Mi-24 helicopters, and can carry up to 20 of the unguided S-8 unguided 3.1 inch rockets. Two sets of parts are included to allow the modeller to build up a pair of pods from three main body parts, and twenty individual rocket tips, which allows you to fill the pod to whatever extent you choose ready for action, or just back from a sortie. A small sheet of decals are included to detail the pods once painted. KMGU-2 Russian Submunition Dispensers (480040) These are advanced second generation submunition dispensers of a similar variety to the British JP233 runway buster, but are cylindrical with eight individually opening sections that dispense different types of mines to make the intended target a little uncomfortable for the opposition. They can be used by most Russian Attack aircraft, including the Mig-23, Mig-27, Mig-29, Su-25, Su-27, Mi-24, Ka-50 and Ka-52. The units are single parts, and have a small attachment point at the rear of the dispenser that should require only a little clean-up. There are added wings on the base to protect the four delicate stabilising fins during its time in the packet, which would be best snapped off to allow easy access to the fins for removal. A small decal sheet provides stencilling and guide markings for each unit when painted. Mk-77 Fire Bombs (480039) The Mk-77 is America's primary incendiary bomb that supposedly "better for the environment" than Napalm, containing less benzene and using kerosene instead of gasoline. Whether the people in the vicinity of the blast would agree is another matter entirely! The set includes two of these snub-nosed tanks, with plenty of surface detail, including filling ports and stabilising vanes along the top of the tank. Each one is made by removing the tank from its pouring stub, and either drilling out a 2mm hole in the bottom to accept one of the two detonator caps (the other is pre-drilled), or drilling it out to 4mm to receive a top-hat shaped insert that then takes the cap. Which Mod out of 4,5, or 6 that pertains to is for you to check your references. Two suspension lugs are added to matching holes on the top of the tank, and here the finesse of the moulding is truly stunning, with each one having a hole through its centre.
