  1. A dusty Challenger 2 from the Iraq war, Trumpeter 1/72. I think I started this during the big and British group build last year but I wouldn't actually weather it until recently. I believe it is a Royal Scots Dragoon Guards vehicle. Trumpeter are pretty rubbish at telling you what their Decals represent especially in 1/72. Built OOO except the fibreglass antenna which are nice but expensive for what they are. Painted with Vallejo Acrylics, some enamel washes, oils , a bit of free hand chipping and pigment powders. And lastly a size comparison with a one Lizzie coin and my recently posted TKS. In terms of size and real world tonnage I think these are the opposite ends of my finished 1/72 collection. Cheers and thanks for looking. Calum
  2. I have ordered this bad boy! Will complete after Apache build (please check it out) - Will discuss some possible paint schemes in the mean time.
  3. After getting my eye back into the game with my AS-90 and also a PzH2000 I thought it was time for me to break out a model that's been sat in the stash for a while but that I've not been brave enough to start until now. Stumbled upon RFM kits in a local shop who just seems to get stuff in at random and I've since picked up, but not started, a Challenger 2, Challenger 2 TES, Sherman Firefly and Leopard 2A6. So I suppose I'd better actually get one started. I decided on the Common or Garden Challenger 2. In my humble opinion the best looking modern MBT, and I will die on that hill. And an excuse to finally have a model with the Royal Tank Regiment Chinese Eye which just tickles me as a bit of nice British eccentricity. This also marks my first adventure away from the more usual kit manufacturers, apart from a Zvezda Tu-160 a few years ago, so I'm climbing out of the Revell, Tamiya and Trumpeter pond. So far I've only got a few steps done as work and other things have got in the way but I've managed to get the main parts of the lower hull together. Very impressed with the detail, slightly less impressed by the huge lumps of plastic from the pin ejectors that needed removing and filing down to get the parts to fit together. But, its all experience. Also, please excuse the background, my workspace is the coffee table... Complete with pin ejector detritus on the right... Ooooh, those tow hooks could do with the quick run over with a blade to tidy that flash... Time to keep on going and try to forget about the RFM track links in my future...
  4. Without too much babbling, here is the final product. Went with a traditional paint job to pay homage to the original camo seen shortly after 1994, and a slight wink at the BAE Systems upgraded Chally. Those who wish to see the build process (WIP) and my other challenger projects: Enjoy the Photos! Edit; some more photos with the chally in its natural habitat. Well its 35x bigger than this models habitat but nature is the best diorama in my opinion A giant car chasing the challenger about. The paint job looking more accurate in the more usual British weather as opposed to the sunny pictures as seen below.

  7. Hi all. Having a break from jets. And moved back to tanks. Just purchased the Tamiya. 1/35 challenger 2 Desertised but it has not got the. Standard pointy side armpit skirts in it. Not really wanting to buy another kit just for 2 parts. Can you buy separate. Anywhere ??? Help please. Thanks and stay safe at these times
  8. This looks tasty and like I said things have a habit of re inventing themselves....extra crown in that for somebody 😆 https://www.armyrecognition.com/weapons_defence_industry_military_technology_uk/new_challenger_2_streetfighter_main_battle_tank_mbt_of_british_army.html
  9. CHALLENGER 2 MBT 2nd Gulf War, 2001 Had this for a few years and with my current British trend, this one won the vote for my next build. (Apologies for the terrible picture quality here) Usual Tamiya fayre, plenty of parts and their standard easy fit. This build includes PE Set 35277 - PE Set for Challenger 2 comprising the Engine Grills and Name-Plate Typical Tamiya with no Sponson fillers - come on Tamiya, when will you learn??? Sponson Filler dimensions are 196mm long, 21.5mm wide of 0.5mm Plastic Card. The outside edge is shaped to fit just inside the outside of the upper hull. I have applied 60thou rod as a support and shall fill the gaps once dry. None of this will be seen in the final construction but I feel it helps to make the Hull a bit more rigid. Side Armour is the simplest of builds at just 3 parts each for the sides and 5 parts for the front section. Basics done on the rear hull and the Shrouded Exhausts installed. The terrible Tamiya plug grab handles will all need replacing on the rear deck for any semblance of detail. Next Time: Rear Hull, Front Hull detail Turret and Main Gun
  10. Here's my latest finished build, a 1/72 scale British Challenger 2 'Desert Version. Lovely little kit, highly recommended for a fun and trouble free build. The one piece tracks were very helpful and still look effective, in my opinion. Painted using a Tamiya rattle can and weathered with Citadel acrylics and Mig powders. I'm yet to make a base for it, so I posed it on a bag of sand! Excuse the photo, taken from my phone.
