  1. 1973: The First Nuclear War Crucial Air Battles of the October 1973 Arab-Israeli War ISBN : 9781911628712 Helion & Company via Casemate UK There have been many books about the 1973 war between the Arab forces and Israel. The general wisdom in these is that air power did not play a major role with a strong air defence deployment by the Arab forces causing heavy losses to the Israeli Air Force. The IAF though did fly heavy air strikes on the Port Said area which were not in direct support of their ground forces. The actual reason for theses remains unclear, however It is now suggested that these were as a direct result of US intelligence suggest that the only Egyptian unit equipped with the SS-1 Scud Missile was based in this area, and the possibility of deployments of Soviet nuclear warheads at this time. The book looks at the Israeli attempts to prevent the deployment of these missiles, whether or not armed with nuclear warheads in the area. This volume is A4 soft back in format and 88 pages. There are over 100 photographs throughout with 12 maps, and 18 colour profiles. Conclusion This book should provide readers with a more upto date look at the early stages of the Gulf War Recommended. 2. Camouflage & Markings of Axis Armor in the Balkans Campaigns 1940-41 Armor Color Gallery No. 14 ISBN : 9788360672310 Model Centrum Progres via Casemate UK The Greek & Balkans campaigns of WWII are one of the areas of WWII that seems largely forgotten about, mainly I suspect as it did not go to well in general for the allies. This new book from Armor Color Galley is a companion volume to the Allied Volume we reviewed here. The author has managed to gather source material from public and private sources in Hungary, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland, Austria, as well as the UK, US and Germany. As such man of the photos have not been published before. Combined with detailed captions they give an insight into the Axis Armour at this time. The book is 72 pages long and filled with Black & White pictures (142), there are also 25 full colour plates. Conclusion This book will give the reader a look at Axis Armour used in these campaigns. Recommended. Review sample courtesy of
  3. The Liberation of Europe 1944 - 1945 Casemate Publishing At first the fact the "The Time" is on the top of the front cover make you think this is a publication from The Times. However this is a medium format book featuring over 400 (many previously unpublished) photographs taken by Photographers from The Times during the invasion and liberation of Europe. Photographers had a dangerous but important job of documenting the D-Day landings and subsequent liberation of Western Europe, and the invasion of Germany. As well as selecting the over 400 photographs the book the Librarian from The Times Mark Barnes has written descriptions for them as well. Conclusion This is an excellent book of photos documenting the campaign across western Europe from the invasion to the eventual victory over Nazi Germany. The photos chosen show the various aspect of this extremely well. Highly recommended. Review sample courtesy of
