  1. TT.18 WJ574. Originally built as a B.2 by Handley Page, Radlett, in 1953, converted to TT.18 by BAC and used by FRADU. sold to the US. Lay abandoned at Melbourne Florida for years, now being restored at The Valiant Air Command in Titusville Florida where Mike took these pictures.
  2. Airbase Coventry, Canberra B.2/6 WK163/ G-BVWC, pics thanks to Rich Ellis.
  3. Hello folks, I'm about to embark on a little project involving the old Airfix Mk.6 Canberra and the Heritage T.17 conversion (a rather severe reaction to losing the original canopy of the kit). This is the first time I'll be using resin to this extent, I've never done anything more than the odd bang seat and some lumps and bumps before. Has anybody here done this mod before and are there any pitfalls to look out for? Any suggestions on how to properly use a vac canopy would be welcome also.
  4. After the RB-57F (http://www.mach2.fr/rb57.htm and http://modelingmadness.com/scott/korean/preview/mach2/019preview.htm) Mach 2 (http://www.mach2.fr/avionsg.htm) is to release a 1/72nd General Dynamics WB57F Canberra (NASA) kit - ref.GP.063 Source: http://www.aviationmegastore.com/general-dynamics-wb57f-canberra-nasa-gp063-mach-2-gp063-scale-modelling/product/?shopid=LM545799cb78d2964af7209c241a&action=prodinfo&parent_id=212&art=129300 V.P.
  5. Evening all. I'm going to try again at a work in progress. I started one recently on my 1/48 B1 Lancer but since then a box containing all the landing gear etc.. has vanished so thats on hold. Its another Canberra for me, this time its a T17 which I am going to do WD955 in hemp. Thanks to Jinxman for selling me his Alley Cat conversion as I couldn't find one anywhere for sale. I started this kit about a week ago and have been doing major surgery on the fuselage section to allow the new canopy and nose to fit. With the Airfix Canberra I've found that the pilot sits far too low and too far back so I've put in a AIRES ejection seat. I know its not the proper one for the Canberra but its a MB Mk.4 which is as close as I could get. The Airfix supplied crew are far too small (hobbit size) so I also aquired a PJ productions RAF pilot. His size seems far more in proprtion. As I've raised the seat and brought it forward and also due to the resin nose section I have had to make some compromises with the instrument display, it is now attached to the underside of the canopy section and has been made substantially smaller to allow a good fit. I've used the Airfix crew and seats in the rear as they will probably not be seen. Another gripe I have with the Airfix kit is the trench like panel lines which bear little or no resemblance to any Canberra so I have filled all the panel lines. So far everything is fitting reasonably well. Here are some pics so far.... That last photo looks really rough.... It honestly looks better in the flesh, I have also to add some PE to the pilot seat to finish it. All comments and advice welcome.. Mark.
  6. Morning all. Just finished this one, its the 1/48 Airfix B2 with the Alley Cat T17 conversion. Everything fitted really well except for the pilot and seat which needed some shoogling about to fit properly. It has the PJ productions modern RAF pilot,an Airies ejector seat, and resin wheelbays. Its painted with Halfords car spraypaint (Rover champagne biege upper and racking grey undersides) and finished with a spray of halfords matt lacquer, Ive also filled all the panel lines.. I've given it very light weathering, photos I have seen of the real aircraft either show it very clean or very dirty. The only issue I'm having is condensation inside the canopy. I gave it a good wash down before painting and I thought it was thoroughly dry but some moisture has obviously got inside and doesn't now want to leave. Also, I need a good idea of what to use as aerial wire, I resorted to using fine jewelery wire but its not tight enough and looks a bit wrong.. Heres some photos (photography is not my strong point and are done on a camera phone). Some outdoor shots... And here she is with my growing fleet of Canberras (a PR7 and PR9) All comments welcome..
  7. Combat Models has just released a 1/32nd Martin B-57 Canberra vacuform kit. Source: http://combatmodels.us/ V.P.
  8. Hi, just finished this last sunday. It is the Revell Canberra B(I)8, build straight out of the box. It has almost no details, the cockpit is empty. I placed some weights inside, but it is still a tailsitter. But I finally built that kit, after having it on my stock for quite some years. The aircraft shown here represents a BAC Canberra B(I)8 from the No. 14 Squadron of the Royal Airforce Germany, based in Wildenrath around 1963. Here are some pictures, I hope you like it.
  9. Ever have one of those kits that you just lose interest in? This one has been hanging around gathering dust 80 % complete for the last 4 years or so. I was initially very keen, and the main airframe went together fairly quickly. Paint was applied (Brush painted Tamiya acrylics) and the it went off the rails. I had a horrible time with the decals - lots of silvering and visible film (despite having a very high gloss finish). More problems followed with the application of Humbrol Mattcote (very patchy looking). Then I ran into problems with the main gear breaking and I threw my hands up in disgust and planted it at the back of the garage. I took it out recently, gave it a good clean (breaking more bits off in the process) and decided to try and finish it. It is missing a few pieces but I am calling this one finished. Due to the different lots of paint used over a 4 year period it has a slightly piebald appearance which I have tried to cover by making it a bit grubby with watercolours. Finished off with my current favourite matt cote of Italeri Flat Clear Acryl. Painted to represent an aircraft of No. 39 Squadron, RAF Marham, 2006.
  10. PR.9 XH131 Pics by Richard E. This aircraft was brought by The Ulster Aviation Society and taken back home to Northern Ireland for display as part of its collection at Long Kesh.
  11. Hello, I've just recently finished this poor detailed and annoying kit. It comes with a brilliant set of decals thou. On the model, there are 157 all together. Three days of work just on decals:) Anyways, there it is: Thanks for any opinions. Bart.
  12. Hi folks. after a great run on 1/72 builds since joining BM last year I have got my stash down to less than eight kits 3 of the different Canberra releases all picked up for £7:99 each due to the demise of Modelzone and the sea vixen in 1/48 and four 1/72 kits so, in the time left until the Northern model show(got my shopping list ready) I thought I would have a crack at this one so a straight OOB build not my scale but for under £8 might be fun.
  13. Guys some help please,I am building the Airfix Canberra B2 with the bay open can anyone tell me the colour of the bombs and/or any markings on them,it is the early 50,s version.many thanks.
  14. Here are a few negative and slide scans from 20 years ago. These were taken on the 4th May during a large NATO Exercise 'Resolute Response'.
  15. Hello. Finally finished this one, been at it for ages but this model fought me at every stage. I started off again with the airfix Canberra B2 and the Alleycat PR7 conversion, I decided to fill all the surface detail as well as it is far too prominent. I decided to do 31 Sqdn RAF WT521 again as she was in Laarbruch about 1965. The first time I used the Alleycat conversion it all fitted together very well, this time however it just refused to fit neatly, by the time it was all fitted together and was sanded the inside of the model was FULL of fine dust that I couldn't get out. Its painted with Halfords primer, Racking grey and Tamiya AS9 spraycans. Decals are a mix of the Airfix ones and Model Alliance stencils, I had to make up the underwing serials using bits of other numbers.. Its turned out no where near as good as I was wanting it but I'm just glad to get it finished. Ive got another B2 in my stash but think I'll wait a while before starting. Probably keep it a standard B2 next time. All comments welcome. Mark.
  16. Here is my first post. I made loads of little mistakes but then again that's modelling. The Decals are Model Alliance and the cockpit has Eduard coloured photo etch. There are almost no reference photos of this aircraft on the web so its really a shot in the dark. Now for the 15 hour bus journey from southern Ireland to Telford !
  17. Hi, I was reading that 51 Sqn was flying spy flights over Gulf of Finland. What was mark that was used? Br. Vesa
  18. Well, once it arrives I'll be converting a High Planes Canberra B.2 into a TT.18. I have the Model Art decals and I have the Ruston Winch set from Kits for Cash (formerly Heritage Aviation), however I am still waiting on the kit arriving. I ordered it 2 weeks ago and am still waiting for it.... I have been in touch with the vendor but am still awaiting a response as to the status of my order. If this doesn't pan out, there's plenty of other options in the stash to choose from, including Hawks, SHARs, Sea Kings, Hellcats and Corsairs so I will be participating in one form or another. Mark.
  19. Airfix Canberra with some modifications..many thanks to John / Canberra Kid for all his help. Cheers from Prague. Andrew
  20. I know there's hundreds of questions and answers about the Canberra, but I can't seem to find the answer to this. I have just finished scratch building the wheel bays for the Revell/Matchbox 1/72 PR.9. Now I have looked and found loads of pics on online walkarounds etc, but they all come up with different colors, grey, white, silver. Even a yellowy beige etch color. I'm doing the RAF camo version XH136. Now I'm assuming this was painted silver??? Would that be correct? Thanks. Martin
  21. Marshall of Cambridge updated several ex-RAF Canberra B(I).8's to B(I).68 configuration for Peru in the mid 1970's. These left the factory in a brown/tan disruptive scheme over grey undersurfaces. Example: http://www.abpic.co.uk/photo/1079569/ And in video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAHZ-mtcomo Decals for this scheme have been made available by Aztec and Model Alliance; Aztec cites FS595 numbers for the colors as 30117/33531/35622. The Model Alliance sheet is not readily available on this side of the Atlantic, so I don't know what they say. However, as a British rebuild of a British airframe for service in a South American air arm without much US equipment, I am skeptical that FS595 was used as the color standard. I am looking for citations on the actual colors used, and/or recommendations for model paints (preferably acrylic) to represent them. Thanks, - David
  22. Having had a good trawl through the Canberra SIG site, Fradu Canberras site and an old Aeroguide, I have reached the conclusion that a TT.18 can be made very easily from a B.2. All I need is some decals, Rushton Winches and a B.2 kit. I have the Model Art sheet 72-007 which features WH887 from 1989, but just want to clarify the situation regarding underwing serials. For this time frame, is the sheet correct in not having them? I've found pics from an earlier period which show it does, but ones of the later period don't show the wing underside in enough detail. The later ones do, however, seem to support the ommission of underwing serials by 1989. Anyone happen to have a lovely clear pic of the underside from this late period of WH887's service? Thanks in advance, Mark.
  23. Hi everyone, I'm here with a wip for the Dambusters 70th anniversary GB. I know I know, so many 70th anniversary Lancasters going around. So I've decided to make mine a little special. I am going to build all the squadrons planes from 1943 to 2013, mostly in 1/72. Starting with the Lancasters. I used an old mould revell, and a new mould revell. (These were in my stash at the time i started 3 months ago.) I also used an Airfix gift set for the dam diorama. the old mould is a sea of rivets, while the new features crisp panel lines. cockpits also tell the difference in terms of detail and accuracy using a 1/32 GBU, i proceeded to make a 1/72 tallboy bomb. Double trouble!
  24. Following on from my Canberra PR7, heres my latest build, its the Airfix 1/48 Canberra PR9. Completed straight from the box with only slight detailing added to the cockpit, ejector seat and the small camera ports either side (bit of a cheat Airfix supplying decals for these).. A very easy kit to put together with very minimal filling required. I filled in most of the fuselage line detail as it seemed over heavy, all the photos I have seen of the real thing show the fuselage as very smooth. Just like my last Canberra, the decals seem to be slightly out of register, the yellows are more of an orange and some of them seem a touch oversized. Next time I'll be sourcing aftermarket ones. It did have the aerial wire attached but for the life of me I can't get it to stick, I've tried both plastic and metal jewellery wire with both super glue, model glue and a combination of both... Any ideas?? Its spray painted with Halfords car spray paint - An initial coat of grey primer, racking grey undersides, Rover champagne biege upper and a final very light coat of clear lacquer. I'm having a bit of a love affair with Canberras just now, any good suggestions of which RAF one to do next? Here she is with the PR7 :- All coments welcome. Mark.
  25. Here is my Airfix 1/48 Canberra PR9 After building this one all I can say is I am glad it was cheap... The cockpit/nose area was a nightmare, the instructions were somewhat vague for many of the version specific bits and pieces and the illustration for the decals, while lovely, was a bit confusing. The decal sheet was a bit confusing too... Most unhelpful was that the panel lines on the aeroplane bore no relation to those on the picture so there was a modicum of guesswork and judgement involved. Ultimately quite happy with how it turned out though.
