I know, I know…….I am getting into this ‘let’s start another build….’ when I have (last count) 6 in progress models in various stages. I was taken aback last week when I moved my stash to clean the floor. I have amassed a lot of kits since restarted in 2022. So, finding the reason to reduce the boxes. I have decided to tackle this fat, unglamorous plane in a big box. Here’s my modest stash in a small apartment. I think it’s an old age thing. I am attracted to planes with props now and I have been building these since coming back; Lancaster, Skyvan, Twin otter, Atlantic and now Greyhound. In the stash are Mosquito, Storch, Anson, An-2, Skyraider, B25 and the 1/24 Spitfire……all props. This is my first 1/48 scale plane since coming back. I shall do my most enjoyable part of detailing the cabin a bit and possibly put in some carrier crews showing what’s cod.

Hi all, Fair to say that naval aviation types figure a lot in my builds, whether jets, props or rotors. And I've always had a soft spot for the Grumman C-2 Greyhound - it's the white van of the US Carrier Fleet, bringing anything from post and passengers to spare parts and jet engines to and from aircraft carriers, wherever they may be in the world. Not the prettiest,. Or the fastest. But one of the most important types I think. And sadly lacking in kits for such an important type with a service career dating back to 1965 and only being replaced this year with the Osprey 🤨 Kit wise, there's Kinetic's lovely recent 1/48 issue and some 1/144 resin offerings. I built the OzMods conversion a couple of years back and while I really enjoyed it, I wanted something in 1/72. There is RHVP's epic resin conversion for the 1/72 Hasegawa Hawkeye (on which the Greyhound is based) but I don't fancy raiding the kids' rainy day fund just yet - besides, I need it for a Bandai PG Falcon someday. 😂 So when the chance came to get a Falcon Vacform conversion & donor kit last year, I decided why not - I'll never build a vacform but at least I have a Greyhound in 1/72!. And then...I went and built a vacform Super King Air for the Maritime GB here. With being at home for the immediate future (and waiting on some paint orders to finish some other builds), I thought...maybe it's time to tackle the Greyhound. Hi all and just finished up this one - I've always wanted a Grumman C-2 Greyhound in 1/72 and felt lockdown was the time to build it! Full build thread plastic bodging is here but to recap: Kits: Falcon 4605 C-2A Greyhound Vacform Conversion with Fujimi E-2 Hawkeye donor Build: Conversion! Extras: None - 30G of nose weight in the kit courtesy of 1c coins Decals: Mix of Fujimi stencils and spares. Painted tails for VRC-30 'Providers' Paints: Halfords Primer, Tamiya Acrylics, Kear, Flory Models Wash, W&N Satin Varnish This is the 2nd vacform I've built and I'm very happy how it turned out. Yes, some goofs along the way and some finishing issues I need to get better at but proud of how it looks. Pros - Hey, it's a 1/72 Greyhound! - Overall dimensions look right - Plenty of space behind the cockpit for that nose weight - Did I say it's a 1/72 Greyhound?! Cons - Very little surface detail - I drew it on with a pencil because I was scared to scribe it - Kit-supplied bulkhead templates just don't fit (too small) - Kit-supplied Vacform canopy nice and clear but fitting was a bear. - Fujimi donor kit is very basic (no u/c gear detail) and tailplane will need correcting But after all that, I still love it and is one of my favourites. Some Grumman C-1A Traders, more affectionately known as the COD for Carrier On-board Delivery, transporting personnel, cargo, and most importantly, mail to the aircraft carriers... The first few are on the VRC-30 ramp at NAS North Island in March 1982. Bureau Number 146041, Modex RW041 146057 assigned to Enterprise 146053, RW053 146055, RW055 146042, RW042 The same aircraft on the Nellis AFB transient ramp in September 1980. And 146022 on USS Ranger (CV-61), March 1982. I like the early Grumman logo on the main gear doors. I'd like to build one of these, but I think the fuselage is deeper than the S-2F available from Hasegawa. Would also need to fair over the back of the engine nacelles, on the S-2 they are bobbed to allow for sonobuoy dispensers. All the Traders are now long gone, having been replaced with the C-2 Greyhound COD. Thanks for looking, Sven

Hi everyone, While 1/72 is normally my default scale, I've built the odd 1/144 kit. And being a fan of naval aviation, I've always had a big soft spot for the Grumman C-2 Greyhound - they do all the unglamorous but essential hauling to and from carriers - whether that's spare parts, passengers or parcels from home. At some point I'll either save up enough for the RHVP resin kit or Kinetic will downsize their 1/48 beasty so for now I'm going with this conversion from OzMods in 1/144 using a Heller E-2C Hawkeye as the donor kit.
