Hi Everyone, Hope you don`t mind if I bother you with some photo`s of my latest effort My attempt at Tamiya`s 1/48 Sworfish Mk II kit Finished to represent an aircraft based in India and Ceylon for missions over the Indian Ocean 1944-45 Built mostly from the box, but with a few wire and thread embellishments: Made the engine cowling supports and ring, torpedo sight etc from copper wire the control cables for rudder and elevators from silver thread soaked in Johnsons Klear, The rigging was done with elastic thread in an attempt to find something that retained some tension better than the nylon thread I usually use Decals were from a Print+Scale set. Howdy All, Just finished my second attempt at Special Hobby`s 1/48 scale Barracuda, so thought I`d bother you with some pic`s 🙂 Completed to represent an aircraft of 822, 1700 or 1709 Squadron depending on the time frame or what reference you use This is the standard boxing of the kit which doesn`t come with as much resin detail Made a slight improvement by opening the radiator cooling flap under the nose as most photo`s show it open Added some bomb racks and 250lb bombs left over from my recent Swordfish and the 500lb ones are Eduard Brassin items Added the small windows just below the windscreen and did open the fuselage at the forward wing root but you can barely see it All the decals came from the stash And thanks to Seahawk, EwenS and Tony O`Toole for there responses to my original questions on the subject Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

I’ve had this C-47/Dakota in the deep stash for years, and had a sudden urge to build it. I think seeing the Avalon decals fired my interest. I’ve long had a (distant) fascination with the air over "the Hump" in WW2. Until now, I’ve never really tried to replicate the CBI theatre in model form, with the exception of the two P40s I’ve built over the years. Airfix, largely OOB apart from exhausts (Quickboost), wheels (Brassin) and cockpit etch (Eduard). I scratch built the various aerial masts from florists wire, filed to shape, as the kit has a different fit and I thought plastic would be too vulnerable anyway. My first attempt at NMF (Halfords Aluminium from a spray can) and my first time using “knitting in elastic” for aerials. I thoroughly enjoyed the kit, although fitting the cockpit windows was a trial (and shows in my poor finish), and this makes it three completions for the year so far, compared with none(!) last year. Hi Everyone, Hope you don`t mind me sharing some pic`s of my most recent CBI build Tamiya`s 1/48 Buffalo MK I kit Completed to represent an aircraft used by 2-VI.GV, Netherlands East Indies Army Air Division, Java, March 1942.................... ......which was formerly used by 21 Squadron RAAF With the original national markings painted over with the later NEI markings but with the original codes and serial still showing Hence the British/Australian style aerial arrangement too Could only find one photo to work from so possibly one or two errors or maybe not? Apart from decals from the stash and brake pipes, built from the box contents. Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking. Cheers Russ

Howdy All, Hope you don`t mind me sharing some photo`s of my very latest effort, which isn`t quite a `whiffer`, but more of a `might have looked like`...... My attempt at building Special Hobby`s 1/48 scale Fairey Albacore Completed to try and represent one of the handful of RN crated aircraft that were assembled and flown by 36 Squadron, RAF Seletar, Singapore, early 1942 I say above `might have looked like` as despite much searching and reading up I couldn`t find any pictures ( photo`s or otherwise ) of the subject, so once again just gave it my best shot Built mainly from the box contents but replaced some very fiddly bits with materials that my `sausage fingers` and eyes could deal with I did try to recreate some of the pipe work from the cylinders to the exhaust and collector ring but you can barely see it. Decals came from the stash and the kit, 250 lb bombs from Brengun. Main references were `Bloody Shamble` by Chris Shores and the replies to my post in BM some time ago. Hi all,just finished Hasegawas 1/48 P-40e, which I`ve done as 1st Lt, Richard Vodras `Squirlbate` used in the South West Pacific Theatre Decals came from a Superscale sheet which depicts a P-40n as the aircraft but from what i can find out Vodras `N` was O/D N/G scheme with the chequered tail other wise it`s pretty much OOB with just seatbelts, brake pipes, fuel tank breather and antenna added Got to do some more Hasegawa `49ers to replace my dodgy Revell ones as there a really wide variety of schemes and markings. thought whilst I was here I`d also show you my previous Hasegawa P-40 builds P-40k, done as 1st Lt, Ed Nollmeyers White 255, 51st FG which was used in the CBI and unusually has no eyes to go with the sharkmouth and finally P-40n, done as White 55, of 2nd Lt, Herbert Doughty with the 80th FG kit was actually the Finnish M boxing but with Cutting Edge decals used which is another CBI Warhawk Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi everyone, Just managed to get some photo`s of my latest effort, my attempt at building a CBI theatre Mk I Hurricane from the new Airfix 1/48 kit. Finished to represent an aircraft of the Royal Indian Air Force, based at Risalpur, India, Dec 1942 Which is my second attempt at the subject, the previous one being with the old Airfix Mk I Wing tanks are modified items from a Hobbycraft kit to more resemble the real thing, I had some saved from Special Hobby`s Firefly which looked perfect, but found they`re all of the same side... ....when I came to assemble them. The decals are some from the kit and some from the stash and other than those, seat belts and antenna wires the rest is from the box. Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi Everyone, Just managed to get some photo`s of my very latest effort, which I hope you don`t mind me sharing Special Hobby`s 1/48 Airspeed Oxford built from their `Royal Navy` Boxing Finished in the second marking option from the box to represent an `Oxbox` of the Far East Indies Fleet and based at various locations including: .....Tambaram, India and Puttalam, Katukurunda in Ceylon ( according to the instruction leaflet ) Built 99% OOB with just ignition harness and aerial wires added........ ..although, after establishing that there was no way of seeing them, I did away with the fiddley photo-etched seat mounts and put them on little blocks of wood instead One of the easiest SH kits I`ve ever made with very little filling and sanding involved. Hi everyone, Just found time, so I hope you don`t mind seeing some shots of my latest effort My attempt at AZ`s 1/48 `Lily` Finished to represent an aircraft of: 8th Sentai, 3rd Chutai, Burma, 1942 Built mostly from the box contents except for the nose gun barrel which I lost somewhere along the road Added ignition harness from wire, aerials, seat belts and................. pitot tube. Wasn`t too bad a build, a big improvement over their Vengeance which was the last one of theirs I tried. Hope you enjoy,thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi Everyone, Whilst I`ve been `painting my self into corners` with my current builds, I`ve revisited some older ones that I wasn`t quite happy with and gave them a once over Firstly Mosquito MK VI that you`ve not seen before Finished in the markings of 45 Squadron, Kumbhirgram, India, 1945 Mostly from the box, except the decals which are from: Eagle Strike Productions... ...Mosquito Best Sellers Part 2. Secondly Beaufighter TFX that I`ve posted before but with..... ...revamped camouflage and weathering The markings were from the stash and represent no particular Airframe or Squadron. Hi Everyone, `Popped` my Classic Airframes cherry at last with my attempt at their 1/48 Fiat BR-20 kit. Finished to represent an aircraft used by the Japanese Air Force during the war against China just proir to WW II Built pretty much from the box contents, I added some radio gear in the fuselage but you can`t see it Other additions included some structure in the nose, that you can barely see and some imagineered walls in the wheel wells Stuff you can see includes wiring harness and push rods on the engine cylinder, some dodgy seat belts and the usual antenna wires Quite a bit of filling and sanding and reinforced the fuselage join with tabs of card like you would with a `vacform` kit Overall not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Hi Everyone, whilst waiting for paint and glue to dry on some other builds, I thought I`d give my old Hobbycraft Hurricane builds a bit of a refurb` First up is my attempt at making a IIB from the IIC/IID kit, based in Burma Added extra 4 guns and filled in the panel lines on the wings The second is a IIC based in India Which you saw a year or two ago which I`ve refined the weathering a bit Thirdly a Burma based IID, which I initially painted with Grey and Green Camo` Also added a few details I`d left off And finally, a Malaysian based IV Which has got a resin armoured radiator which was meant for the Hasegawa kit and rockets from a Tamiya Mossie or Beaufighter I know the Hobbycraft kit has a few faults but it`s easier to get hold of, cheaper and because they`re all the same.... none of them look out of place Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi Everyone, Just finished last weekend, which I was building alongside my Messerscmhitt `108, but which took a bit longer for some reason Italeri`s reissue of Esci`s 1/48 Henschell 123 kit Finished to represent an aircraft of 15th Chungtui, Chinese Air Force, Nankin Region around 1938 Built mostly from the box contents... with the decals from Kora decals DEC4821 set According to the instructions the aircraft were delivered in all over grey and the camo` applied by hand locally Hope you enjoy, Thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi everyone, Just finished my other `Chinese` P-40 that I was building along side my recently posted AVG Hawk 81 Hasegawas 1/48 P-40N completed to represent; `Sam` of the Chinese American Composite Wings 5th FG Flown by Col John A Dunning, Chihkiang, China 1944 Built pretty much out of the box, with just some seat belts, brake pipes and aerial wires added. Decals were from an old Cutting Edge set. Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi Everyone, Here`s my attempt at making an AVG Hawk from every ones favourite P-40 kit Finished to represent a Hawk H-81 of the 2nd Pursuit Squadron `The Panda Bears`, AVG, flown by Franklin Schwartz, Burma `42 I made a few improvements to the kit, the biggest being: replacing the cockpit with a resin one I had lying around from an Eduard P-40 Still used the kit instrument panel though, so it`s still not accurate but looks better IMHO and scratch built a replacement seat. Other tweaks include; reduced the rudder chord, lengthened the tail wheel, lengthened the main gear........... Added retraction links to the main gear, Replaced the wing guns with brass tube and sanded the protruding panels down a bit. The Decals came from a Sky models set, which were great except I had to hand paint the teeth behind the spinner Oh and the pitot came off a Hasegawa kit, otherwise just the usual brake pipes, aerials etc Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Happy New Year, Cheers Russ

Hi everyone, Just finished the marathon filling and sanding exercise that is Airfixs 1/48 PR XVI Mosquito so thought I`d share some pic`s Finished as an SEAC aircraft of 684 Squadron, RAF, Dum Dum , India, circa 1945 Read that they fared badly in the theatre due to their wooden construction, hence the nick name I wasn`t expecting Tamiya fit or even that the new parts in the kit would fit the older parts without a bit of work, but...... apart from the tailplanes, every part required a lot of filling and sanding. The canopy and the nacelles being the worst. Resorted to clear epoxy for the camera and landing light covers. Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi all, Just thought I`d show some pic`s of my just completed attempt at making a Chinese Nationalist Air Force Hawk II from the old Lindberg Goshawk kit. Curtiss Hawk II No 2804, flown by Lt Art Chin, 28th PS/5th PG, August 1937. Had to do a few modifications to the base kit, including: eliminating triangular cut out from the rudder, manufacture tail skid and..... fit semi built in slipper tank underneath to replace the teardrop aux` tank. Detail improvements include: ignition wires, exhaust stubs and replacement pilot figure to hide the lack of cockpit detail. Decals from the stash. Built to remind myself why I rarely build Biplanes. Hi Everyone, Just finished and photographed my latest effort; my attempt at a RAF Thunderbolt to go with my other CBI builds. Done from Italeris reboxing of the Academy P-47D 1/48 kit Completed as an aircraft of 134 Squadron, based at Ratnap, Burma Done from the box apart from usual wire embellishments and seat belts except for the decals which were from... Xdradecal X48115 sheet Reshaped the prop to more represent Curtiss symmetrical type and modified the kit bombs to represent ( loosely ) box finned items Hope you enjoy, Thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi Everyone, Thought I`d show some pic`s of my most recent completion Academys 1/48 scale P-38 Lightning, done as the Recce option and completed as: and aircraft of 12th Reconnaissance Squadron, Sino-American Wing, Chinese Nationalist Air Force, 1944-45 Built mostly OOB with just brake pipes and seat belts added, with decals from a Blue Rider sheet Was going to complete it in Olive Drab and Neutral Grey scheme but after Googling and looking through books found..... that every reference and profile stated Dark Green and Light Grey as the colours used so presume they were delivered in Bare Metal and painted locally. Whatever colour they were I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for looking,Cheers Russ

Hi Everyone, Finished this a day or two ago, but been waiting for some sun to take some pic`s Italeris boxing of Accurate Minatures 1/48 A-36A Apache Completed to represent an aircraft of 328th FS, 311th FB, 10th Air Force, USAAF, CBI theatre Flown by Lt. William Creech, Burma 1944. Built almost completely OOB, with a few wire embellishments, seat belts and thinned the prop a bit. Also thought I might as well show you some of my previous Mustang builds.... Tamiya 1/48, P-51B with aftermarket decals, CBI Theatre Tamiya 1/48th, P-51D, CBI theatre Also with aftermarket decals and rocket launchers (Academy I think) from the spares box Hasegawa 1/48th, P-51D with prop from the spares box to represent a `K` In the markings of a Pacific bird Hope you enjoy looking at, Happy modelling.. Lockheed P-38J-5-LO, 42-67291, “Haleakala”, 459th FS, 80th FG, USAAF, Chittagong, India, 1944 Pilot: Lt. H.H. Sealy 1/72 model built using parts of Hasegawa and Dragon kits (done before the Academy kit became available) with some scratch building/reshaping. The only correctly shaped drop tanks I could find were borrowed from the Frog/Novo kit. Detail sets ( used completely or partially): Aires P-38J/L cockpit set, Eduard P-38J/L detail set, Squadron P-38 F(due to the early style windscreen on J-5) vacu canopy Decals: Aeromaster (all individual a/c markings were inaccurate and had to be corrected or replaced) Dragon/Italeri kit decals, Travers, Revell (P-51B) - for technical markings- 29 replies

Hi Everyone, just managed to finish and photograph my latest build; Eduards weekend edition I-16 Which I finished in the kit markings to represent an aircraft of: Sinkiang Aviation Unit, Dihua airfield, China, 1941-42 Only additions to what came in the box was some seat belts and the undercarriage retraction cables Don`t know a lot about these so probably a few boo-boos but hopefully nothingserious. Hi Everyone, Here`s some pictures of my very latest effort Hasegawa 1/48 Oscar and about a quarter of an Eduard interior etch set, which was kindly given to me and the reason for buying the kit The main bits of the kit I replaced were the seat, seat belts and ignition harness but due to the small cockpit opening and oil cooler ring you can`t really see them I did the brake pipes with some wire Hope you enjoy Thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Happy New Year everyone and hope you had a good Christmas. Now the festive seasons over, I thought I`d show you my latest effort, Eduards (Mauve) 1/48 scale P-40, done as a `M` version from the `N` boxing Completed to represent an aircraft of the 25th FS/51st FG, `The Assam Dragons`, whilst based in China Summer 1944 I had been looking for a P-40M kit for a while, when I remembered from a long gone previous build that the Eduard P-40N kit contained the parts to do an M. I didn`t use much of the resin bits as I used them before and didn`t think they were worth the battle to fit them. But I did manage to use a bit of the etched stuff. Decals were from a SkyModels sheet I replaced the gun barrels with brass tube and the bomb came from the stash. Hope you enjoy looking at Cheers Russ
